SORGELIG set release date for IRON BONEHEAD mini-album, reveal first track

Today, Iron Bonehead Productions sets May 3rd as the international release date for a striking new mini-album from SorgeligDevoted to Nothingness, on 12″ vinyl format.

Released earlier this year on limited cassette, the aptly titled Devoted to Nothingness is a swift ‘n’ decisive blast of unapologetically grim, blown-out black metal. Sorgelig may hail from Greece, but they otherwise eschew their homeland’s classic paradigm for one that hearkens back just as far, to France’s notorious Black Legions. Thus, across Devoted to Nothingness will those of hardier constitutions find utterly tortured, hysteric bleariness that’s both malformed and melancholic, favorably suggesting the likes of Vlad Tepes, Mütiilation, and especially Belketre, but with an exquisitely rotten touch all Sorgelig‘s own.

This is black metal from ancient times, no more but certainly no less. No modernity, no progression, NO HOPE: truly, Sorgelig are Devoted to Nothingness. The first devotion can be found with the new track “Die in Vain” here:

The already legendary story of SAINT VITUS began in the year 1978, when guitarist Dave Chandler, together with Armando Acosta on drums and bass player Mark Adams, started rehearsing. After trying out two other singers, the band finally settled for vocalist Scott Reagers under the designation TYRANT. In August 1979 the quartet played their first show and in 1980 their name was finally changed to SAINT VITUS. Reportedly this move was inspired by the BLACK SABBATH song “St. Vitus’ Dance”, taken from the “Volume 4” album (1972).

The eponymous debut album “Saint Vitus” had been released in the same year and was quickly followed by the second full-length “Hallow’s Victim” (1985) and an EP entitled “The Walking Dead” (1985). With Thrash Metal on a furious rise, the ultra-heavy sound of SAINT VITUS was mainly enjoyed by connoisseurs of Doom and a dedicated underground following. This might have been one of the reasons for Scott Reagers to part from the band in 1986. His unexpected move turned out to be hardly a problem for the band as they recruited Scott “Wino” Weinrich from THE OBSESSED, who is considered as the ultimate voice of SAINT VITUS by a clear majority of their adherents.

When Scott Reagers left, Dave Chandler had already written most of “Born Too Late” (1986). This album gained the Americans growing attention in the Metal underground especially overseas. The anthemic title track is considered be one of the great Doom hymns by many fans.

The EP “Thirsty and Miserable” (1987) followed, which featured a BLACK FLAG cover version of the same name, but “Mournful Cries” (1988) was still going to be the last album for SST Records. All this hard work during the previous years started to pay off. With their aptly named fifth full-length “V” (1989) now released on the famous German Doom label Hellhound Records and the live recording “Live” coming out a year later, interest started to grow considerably, although at first in continental Europe, but soon after in England as well. Just as the horizon was brightening for the Godfathers of Doom, Wino decided to leave SAINT VITUS and reform THE OBSESSED in 1990, which turned out to be a serious blow.

Wino was first replaced by Christian Lindersson from Swedish musical and spiritual brothers COUNT RAVEN. With him at the microphone SAINT VITUS recorded “C.O.D.” (1992), which was produced by Don Dokken and gained high critical acclaim. Despite the warm welcome received, the band remained largely inactive after this release.

Two years later, SAINT VITUS reunited with their original singer Scott Reagers. This led to the again much applauded album “Die Healing” (1995). It might have been the right time for the group to reap the harvest of all the amazing songs that they had sown, but due to severe health problems of Scott Reagers their European tour had to be prematurely ended and that seemed to be the end of the SAINT VITUS story for a long time, much to the dismay of their loyal and by then many followers.

At the time nobody could have foreseen that April 29th, 2009 in Stuttgart, Germany would mark Armando Acosta’s final performance with SAINT VITUS. After this last show in Europe the band returned to the States as planned. There Amando’s multiple serious health issues were continuing to take their toll on him, and with great sadness on November 25th, 2010 SAINT VITUS received the painful news that their longtime friend and band mate had passed away.

When SAINT VITUS played their massive show at Hellfest in France, the crowd witnessed a new member on the drum stool. Henry Vasquez, who had already joined Dave Chandler on his project DEBRIS INC. made his debut there and remained with the band from that day on.

In 2012, SAINT VITUS signed to Season of Mist, who proudly released “Lillie: F-65” in April. Seventeen years after their previous album and nine years after their reunion, SAINT VITUS were returning with a masterpiece that cemented their status as true icons of Doom. “Lillie: F-65” includes the trademark song writing style so beloved by SAINT VITUS fans: there is the cataclysmic and unmistakable guitar sound of co-founder Dave Chandler full of reverbs, feedbacks, flanger and apocalyptic distortion leading to amazing and magical solos. “Lillie: F-65” is furthermore graced with the deeply resonant vocals of Scott “Wino” Weinrich who had rejoined the fold to record an album with the band for the first time since the glorious “V” (1989) and whom many consider to be the classic SAINT VITUS vocalist.

From the very first guitar chords, that unmistakable frying, sizzling, and wailing signature sound of Dave Chandler, any adherent of classic doom metal will immediately know: this is SAINT VITUS. The godfathers of American Doom Metal will soon embark on an extensive European tour in celebration of their 40th band anniversary. At first glance a bold statement such as “godfathers of American Doom Metal” might appear to be weighing as heavy as this band sounds. Nonetheless this is simply the truth in this case. www.facebook.com/saintvitusofficial

MURG set release date for new NORDVIS album, reveal first track

Today, Nordvis Produktion announces April 26th as the international release date for Murg‘s highly anticipated third album, Strävan, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Strävan – “striving”or “endeavor” – is the third album of the anonymous Swedish black metal duo Murg. Strävan finalizes the trilogy begun in 2015 with the debut album Varg och Björn (“Wolf and bear”) and was continued with Gudatall (“Godpine”). Here in this final chapter, humankind as we know it, with all our flaws and perversions, no longer exists: a new form is created, a perfect beast born to sacrifice itself to end the entire universe. Strävan is the long audial march to the altar of cosmic destruction.

Murg‘s pitch-black metal is driven by slow-paced, churning riffs imbued with stoic darkness and aggressive pride, sinister and somber meandering throughout its eight tracks. Similar to the terse song titles, Murg works with a musical sparseness: tightly-knit structures without frills or special effects, straight to the bone but never simplistic or predictable. A noble and inhuman “fare thee well” to creation, towering and defiant in its uncompromising delivery.

Murg hail from the rural mining areas of Bergslagen, Sweden. Their harsh sound is affected by the deep, rocky forests of their native Bergslagen and the abandoned, centuries-old mines that are scattered among them. That, in combination with a misanthropic and deeply ecological ideology, makes up the foundation of Murg. Their first release, Varg och Björn, established that foundation with a concept album that conveyed the notion of humankind’s total uselessness and its cyclical attempts – and constant failure – at achieving co-existence with anything on this earth. Civilization is a myth that foreshadows the one and true god: Nature, and the parasitical humans has long since used their right to exist. The punishment is death, and Nature will be the executioner.

Elite Greek black metallers Akrotheism premiere new track

Today, elite Greek black metallers Akrotheism premiere the new track “Typhonian Serpents” The track hails from the band’s highly anticipated second album, The Law of Seven Deaths, set for international release on March 29th via Osmose Productions. Hear Akrotheism‘s “Typhonian Serpents” in its entirety exclusively here:

Hailing from Athens, Akrotheism formed in 2012 to perform violent-yet-experimental black metal which deeply explores matters of esotericism and philosophy. The band’s first recording came in 2013 as a split EP with countrymen Order of the Ebon Hand. Emboldened by that momentum, a year later came the band’s debut album, Behold the Son of Plagues, which was a shockingly accomplished work for such a young band. Then, in 2015, Akrotheism delivered two tracks to a split release with countrymen Septuagint, which showed an even bolder and more daring vision of black metal. During this time, the band made select festival appearances once a year, playing alongside such esteemed bands as Ofermod, Necros Christos, Acherontas, and Bölzer among others.

Now, lying in wait to unveil their boldest and most daring work yet, Akrotheism have been studiously crafting their breakout second album, The Law of Seven Deaths, which will be released under the auspices of Osmose Productions. Both a culmination of all thematic and textural exploits to date as well as new corridors yet unexplored, The Law of Seven Deaths is a veritable labyrinth of beyond-the-drape atmosphere and dizzying, dynamic aggression. The album was mixed and mastered by Stephen Lockhart at Emissary Studio, Iceland – known for Svartidaudi, Sinmara, and Rebirth Of Nefast among others – and will feature guest vocals and chants by Acherontas V. Priest. Verily, The Law of Seven Deaths is the work upon which Akrotheism will be duly judged and found triumphant.

A statement from the band reads as thus: “The Law of Seven Deaths came into existence to provoke those who dare to take the inner journey. The one to the uncontrolled liberation of subconscious energies.”

GRAVE INFESTATION set release date for INVICTUS debut demo, reveal first track

Today, Invictus Productions sets March 29th as the international release date for Grave Infestation‘s striking debut demo, Infesticide, on cassette tape format.

Originally self-released during the closing moments of 2018, so impressed by Grave Infestation‘s sonic filth was Invictus that the label simply had to release Infesticide on a wider scale! And within the first few minutes, it’s simple to understand why: this Vancouver power-trio wield a gutsfucking sound that near-effortlessly synthesizes every slice of darkness of death metal’s pivotal late ’80s era. From the malignant tendrils Morbid Angel cast across the Tampa scene to the buzzsaw bulldoze of the contemporaneous Swedish scene, the ancient foundation of Necrovore, Repulsion, and Sadistic Intent to Carcass’ godly first two albums – all this (and plenty more) gets swirled into Grave Infestation‘s cauldron. And unlike so much modern “death metal” that purports to be a band but is nothing more than a sterile studio project, Infesticide proves that this is three actual human beings playing together, harnessing the powers of death ‘n’ destruction into a maelstrom of inexorable might.

Step forth into that maelstrom with the new track “Dead Wrong” here:
Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

Remember the famous blues legend about aspiring musicians meeting the devil at the crossroads, who offers artistic greatness in return for the souls of the eager seekers of fame? Well, a similar story can probably be told about NOCTURNAL GRAVES. Just exchange “fame” with “true old school spirit” and re-locate the fateful meeting to the very point where black, death, and thrash metal grow in and out of each other – with each of these sub-genres being expressed in their earlier incarnations.

At exactly those crossroads you will find ‘Titan’. The third full-length of the Australian veterans unashamedly celebrates the testosterone-driven raw aggression of the darker side of the ‘80s metal scene. Each riff hits home hard with as much passion as precision. NOCTURNAL GRAVES obviously love what they are doing and this shines through every brutal note. Song by song this band keep the flame burning and their uncompromising conviction as well as execution sets ‘Titan’ apart from random nostalgia and makes the album fully relevant within the contemporary metal setting.

NOCTURNAL GRAVES were originally formed in Melbourne, Australia in 2004. Two well received demos, ‘Profanation of Innocence’ and ‘Deathstorm’ followed in the same year. Quickly scoring a record deal, the band officially released the ‘Necromancer’ 7″ vinyl in 2006 before unleashing their cult debut full-length, ‘Satan’s Cross’ the following year, which was re-issued with the stunning cover art by renowned painter Paolo Girardi (INQUISITION, MANILLA ROAD, HIEROPHANT) in 2017.

When the Australians first hit Europe in 2009, they celebrated the event with ‘The Gravespirit Sessions’ split. Former DESTRÖYER 666 and RAZOR OF OCCAM guitarist Shrapnel, as well as drummer L.W., joined in 2012.

NOCTURNAL GRAVES widely extended their international fanbase with the release of sophomore album ‘…From the Bloodline of Cain’ (2014), which resulted in an invitation to the 2016 edition of Maryland Deathfest and more shows in the US. The band supported the tour with a limited 7″ EP ‘Sharpen the Knives / Lead us to the Endless Fire’.

Now, NOCTURNAL GRAVES are getting ready to conquer the world with their highly anticipated forthcoming third full-length. ‘Titan’ is in every sense as big as the album’s name implies. Prepare for impact!

Gaahls WYRD, fronted by legendary black metal vocalist, frontman, artist and composer Gaahl, will release their highly anticipated debut album ‘GastiR – Ghosts invited’, via Season of Mist on May 31st.

Gaahl is known as one of Norway’s most talked about and respected extreme metal musicians. His work with TRELLDOM, GORGOROTH, WARDRUNA and GOD SEED has been widely regarded as some of the best the black metal scene has had to offer.

Under the moniker Gaahls WYRD, the vocalist assembled some of Norway’s finest metal musicians. The band consist of Ole Walaunet (The Batallion, God Seed, Grimfist), Frode Kilvik (Krakow, Aeternus) and Kevin Kvåle (Horizon Ablaze). This highly qualified bunch has recently toured a finely selected, career spanning repertoire from Gaahl’s time in TRELLDOM, GORGOROTH and GOD SEED to great acclaim.

Having recorded their first full length in Solslottet Studios in Norway with Iver Sandøy (ENSLAVED) last year, the musicians are now ready to bestow their own unique take on extreme metal upon the masses.

Those who are expecting a blasting black metal offering are in for something unexpected. Even though ‘GastiR – Ghosts invited’ is firmly rooted in extreme metal, Gaahl’s vocal delivery on this record is something out of the ordinary and the first class riffing in combination with the excellent musicianship is bound to take you places you’ve never been before.

ROTTING CHRIST have reached another peak in their long career that now spans over more than three decades. The Greeks have literally stood the test of time. With a steady core line-up and their well-honed live delivery, ROTTING CHRIST are filling concert halls and reap enthusiastic crowd reactions wherever they go. This demonstration of love from their followers is not just driven by nostalgia as the band has managed to evolve and grow, while staying relevant beyond the classics with their highly acclaimed latest albums such as ‘Aealo’ (2010), ‘Κατά τον δαίμονα εαυτού’ (2013), and ‘Rituals’ (2016).

Now, with the new offering ‘The Heretics’, ROTTING CHRIST are opening a brand new chapter. With confidence and skills derived from experience, each song represents its own sonic universe. Guitarist and vocalist Sakis Tolis in collaboration with his brother Themis on drums achieve a perfect balance of amalgamating their classic and unique style of riffing and rhythm with exciting new elements sprinkled in to keep their material exciting and fresh. The experienced is enhanced by Jens Bogren’s equally clear and transparent yet also massive as well as sombre mix and mastering at his widely renowned Fascination Street Studios (AMORPHIS, BORKNAGAR, MOONSPELL, DEVIN TOWNSEND, and many more).

ROTTING CHRIST were founded by Sakis Tolis and his brother Themis in the year 1987. Starting out on a basis of death and grind, the Greeks had already embarked on a darker musical journey by the time their debut full-length ‘Thy Mighty Contract’ (1993) was revealed. On the following seven albums covering a ten-year period from ‘Non Serviam’ (1994) to ‘Sanctus Diavolos’ (2004), ROTTING CHRIST steadily defined their own distinct style by experimenting with elements from death, heavy, and gothic metal without betraying their black roots. At the same time, the band went from underground heroes to headliner status. With the highly acclaimed ninth album, ‘Theogonia’ (2007), the Greek stalwarts added an unmistakable native element to their sound, which has remained with them as a signature trademark ever since. Exploring the mythical legacy of cultures around the globe let to

ROTTING CHRIST‘s massively successful latest release, ‘Rituals’ (2016). With more than 30 years, 13 studio albums, a dozen EPs, singles and split releases, as well as more than 1.250 shows under their belt, 2018 marked the year of ‘Their Greatest Spells’ (2018), where they musically revisited their exciting legacy to connect their past with the present.

‘The Heretics’ marks another step in the evolution of the Greek masters. Buckle up for a fascinating musical ride through the woes of religious wars, Zoroastrianism and the eternal war between good and evil.  Metal at its best!
