BLACK ANVIL sign to Season of Mist

Formed in 2007 in New York City, Black Metal troupe BLACK ANVIL released their debut album ‘Time Insults the Mind’ in September 2009. After a re-release of their acclaimed 2009 debut, BLACK ANVIL unleashed their first proper full-length ‘Triumvirate’ in September 2010. Recorded with engineer ‘General’ George Fullan (The Rolling Stones, Dream Theater) at Mark ‘The Animal’ Mendoza’s (Twisted Sister) Diamond Drop Studio, ‘Triumvirate’ received critical acclaim and was hailed as an “all-around monster metal album.”

‘Triumvirate’ was followed in 2014 by ‘Hail Death’, a 70-minute journey of intensity that further established BLACK ANVIL as a modern Black Metal powerhouse and was praised by many publications. Constantly bringing their live ritual to the masses, BLACK ANVIL has participated in numerous high profile tours with black metal legends such as Mayhem, Watain, Urfaust and Marduk as well as dates with Aura Noir, Nachtmysticum, Eyehategod and Cannibal Corpse. Additionally, the band has appeared at various festivals including the Scion Rock Fest (US), Beyond The Gates in Bergen (NO) and the renowned Roadburn Festival (NL).

In 2017, BLACK ANVIL dropped their fourth studio-album ‘As Was’ the staggering 50-minute follow-up to 2014’s ‘Hail Death’. Atmospheric and melodic without relenting on any of the ferocity that BLACK ANVIL have always been known for, ‘As Was’ seamlessly weaves through eight monumental passages of extreme metal art. More diverse, complex, and thought-provoking than anything they’ve done before, ‘As Was’ is a stellar representation of modern Black Metal and of BLACK ANVIL‘s continuous progression and songcraft. Featuring cover art by Metastazis (Behemoth, Watain, Morbid Angel) and recorded at Menegroth by Colin Marston (Krallice, Gorguts, Panopticon) with mixing and mastering done by Tore Stjerna at Necromorbus Studio (Tribulation, Funeral Mist, Watain).

Finland’s FRONT set release date for new IRON BONEHEAD mini-album, reveal first track

Today, Iron Bonehead Productions sets June 5th as the international release date for a new mini-album from Finland’s Front, Antichrist Militia, on CD and 12″ vinyl formats.

It’s been four long years since Front‘s celebrated debut album for Iron Bonehead , Iron Overkill. Firmly committed to the original war metal tenets laid down by Bestial Warlust and blitzing ’em to fuck in a manner most Marduk circa Panzer Divison Marduk, Iron Overkill was ever accurately titled: wave after undulating wave of teeth-gnashing speed and disgusting filth, all set to pulverizing stun, evoking an all-consuming sensation of total and utter oblivion. Now expanded to a quartet, Front are set to deliver their most complete statement yet, Antichrist Militia – which, paradoxically, is a swift ‘n’ decisive 23 minutes.

Sheering away the more conventional aspects of tried-and-true war metal in favor of time-honored heavy rock sleaze, Antichrist Militia is immediately a more memorable and altogether MEANER listen. The downshifts into headbanging moments infrequently found on Iron Overkill have been maximized here – and pumped full of nitrous. Just witness the Motörheaded charge of “Iron Front,” a fitting(ly filthy) tribute to their god Lemmy.

Peruvian black metal cult Arcada stream debut album

One of the underground’s best-kept secrets, Arcada hail from the cult-metal hotbed of Peru. Forming in 2012, the band have patiently built a small-but-significant canon across three demos and an EP. Each step of the way, Arcada have further finessed their sulfurous-yet-nuanced craft, each short-length recording providing a pivotal step toward aesthetic perfection.

Now, at last, it seems Arcada have accomplished that perfection with their long-awaited debut album, Projections. Wasting no time in establishing its mystical muse, Projections pulses forward with slashing ‘n’ scything intent. Riffs hammer with malice, but also with no small amount of melody, ringing out across the abyss like a clarion call for Hell’s hordes to arise. Freezing and furious, the black metal Nôidva unfurl across Windseller crucially contains a mystical element – folkloric, magickal, evocative of forgotten realms far from modernity – as well as a melodicism that stirs the more courageous side of one’s spirit rather than immediate and irrevocable bloodlust. As such, Winderseller poignantly imparts a favorably late ’90s aspect both in form and feel, and done with the undeniable passion Nôidva possess, the sum effect is refreshing as it is reverential.

THE PROJECTIONIST: Black metal collective share new track & announce details of fifth full-length operetta

Canada’s sinister theatrical Black Metal consortium known as The Projectionist return with their highly anticipated fifth full-length operetta, The Stench of Amalthia, comes on CD and cassette formats via Moribund Records on April 17th. Mastermind Lord Matzigkeitus, alongside his evil cohorts Parageist, Ghast, Destroyer, Malphas, present original concepts and storylines in place of the usual black metal oratory.

When left alone with the old withering actress, gruesome and macabre events unfold to wield death, torture and satanic forces against the poor fragile Nurse… and all who’d call upon the Mansion looking for her.

Despite Enepsigos‘ 2017 debut album, Plague of Plagues, having been enthusiastically welcomed by fans of traditional black metal, the band itself always felt that the album did not really go far enough in establishing what Enepsigos, and its music, was all about. But now, with Osmose Productions set to release Enepsigos‘ sophomore album, Wrath of Wraths, on March 27th inernationally, all that is about to change. Formed in 2016 by V.I.T.H.R – otherwise known as Doedsadmiral, founder and frontman of bands such as Nordjevel, Svartfelder, and Doedsvangr – and drummer Thorns – known for his work with Blut Aus Nord, Deathrow, Fides Inversa, Frostmoon Eclipse, and Darvaza – the band parted company with bassist Straff upon completion of the debut album and were consequently joined by Rituul on bass and guitars, and it is with this lineup that Wrath of Wraths was recorded.

SHITFUCKER set release date for new HELLS HEADBANGERS album, reveal new track

Today, Hells Headbangers sets April 20th as the international release date for Shitfucker‘s highly anticipated second album, Sex With Dead Body, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats.

Once one of the metal underground’s best-kept secrets, Detroit scum-crew Shitfucker burst into the public’s consciousness with utter and unrelenting rudeness with their now-classic debut album, Suck Cocks in Hell, in 2013 courtesy of Hells Headbangers. Prolific before that album and prolific after, the power-trio kept apace with salacious split recordings with the considerable likes of Bonehunter, Midnight, and Japan’s Abigail. But, it was later during the summer of 2019 when Shitfucker alluded to something truly nasty brewing, with the four-song Ricky’s Dead demo…

At long last, it’s arrived: Shitfucker‘s second full-length, Sex With Dead Body. Characteristically OTT as its title and comprising re-recorded versions of those four demo songs, Sex With Dead Body is an altogether sleazier and more haunting iteration of Shitfucker‘s by-now-characteristic aesthetic. Mainlining G.I.S.M. and the Japanese Ghoul into earliest Bathory and Sodom – so, basically think 1984 – what spews forth is a swirling and oft-disorienting fever dream of ancient blackthrash and toxic hardcore-punk, pumped full of disease, degradation, and devil worship. Yet, Shitfucker more than ever prove here that they’re astute songwriters, ably channeling the most ragged spirits of HARD rock ‘n’ roll and kicking out anthems that hail all sorts of unsavory things (hint: re-read that album title).

Although it’s been six long years between albums, Sex With Dead Body proves that Shitfucker are still charismatic masters of apocalyptic witching metal of the highest order/odor. Get fucking, or get fucked!

Finland’s TEMPLAR to release debut demo on CALIGARI – streaming now

One of the most utterly unhinged recordings Caligari has come across in recent years, Templar‘s Nuclear Hell Decibelfucking the Charred Remains of the Christ was originally self-released digitally and on super-limited cassette during the autumn of 2018. Accurately titled in all its absurd glory, form completing meeting content, Templar‘s first public recording was indeed a nuclear-charged explosion of chaotic blackthrash, berzerker speed metal, and demented Japanese-style punk. Everything’s going off the rails here, all the time, but somehow Templar pull it all together with swaggering style – as well as a perverse, uncanny ear for a (hellish) hook.
