Today, Chaos Records announces July 17th as the international release date for Hell Strike‘s striking debut mini-album, Hellstrike, on CD format.
Featuring members of Ascended Dead, Ritual Necromancy, and Bloodsoaked among others, Hell Strike is a new band with an old sound. The idea of Hell Strike started like most bands: it was at a metal show where Charlie Koryn, Johnatan Quintana, and José Luis Rodríguez met and talked about jamming some old songs. Even though the members are spread between Seattle and Portland, the distance wasn’t an issue, and rehearsals started at the end of 2017.
The next year, Hell Strike had a handful of practices, but every trek was always a productive one. Just around then, Jon Reiner joined the band, and a few more practices took place. Then, mid-2018 saw a long hiatus due to the schedules of the members’ other bands, and it wasn’t until December 2019 where the songs they’d been working on finally got recorded.
At last, that recording emerges as a six-song/24-minute mini-album: Hellstrike, essentially a self-titled record of sorts. Here, Hell Strike surge and crunch with eldritch energies, back when the cauldron of extremity was slowly stirred between death metal and black metal. More specifically, the mini-album stands firmly on a foundation of early 2000s black/death and early-to-mid ’90s death metal, recalling the likes of Sadistic Intent, Grotesque (Sweden), The Chasm, Necrophobic, Mortem (Peru), and Order From Chaos among others.
Familiar yet foreign at the same time, Hellstrike is indeed a gnarly first strike for Hell Strike!

American blackened death metal icons PESSIMIST (ft. Kelly McLauchlin of POSSESSED, I AM MORBID, etc.) have now entered the Black Attack Studios in Los Angeles, CA (USA) to begin recording their long awaited fourth full-length album, ‘Keys to the Underworld,’ with engineer Ira Black! This will be the band’s first full-length record since 2002’s ‘Slaughtering the Faithful.’ In addition, the band is also now welcoming drummer Tim Yeung (I AM MORBID, DIVINE HERESY, HATE ETERNAL, etc.) to the recording lineup! ‘Keys to the Underworld’ will be released by Season of Mist at a later date. Stay tuned!
Founding member/guitarist Kelly McLauchlin comments: “We are extremely excited to be working with a top-notch drummer as Tim Yeung – you will know him from bands such as Morbid Angel and Hate Eternal, and we also play together in I Am Morbid. We are confident Tim will bring his superior drumming skills to the new Pessimist record, and we are taking our songs to the next level. This album will be worth waiting for!”
In case you have missed it: PESSIMIST has previously announced that they will also be issuing their first three albums on vinyl for the first time ever! ‘Cult of the Initiated,’ (1997) ‘Blood for the Gods,’ (1999) and ‘Slaughtering the Faithful’ (2002) will all contain bonus tracks and other extras as well, such as new layouts and rare, archival band photos. The release dates are as follows:
‘Cult of Initiated’ – Due on May 14, 2021 ‘Blood for the Gods’ – Due on June 11, 2021 ‘Slaughtering the Faithful’ – Due on July 16, 2021
One of the premiere bands to emerge out of the early Baltimore, MD death metal scene, with their 1993 demo Dark Reality, PESSIMIST played their first shows opening for national acts Incantation, Deicide, and Malevolent Creation. In 1995, the band self-released the EP Absence of Light on cassette and landed gigs opening for Testament, Forbidden, Suffocation, and Napalm Death.
In 1997 PESSIMIST signed to Lost Disciple Records and released their debut CD Cult of the Initiated, which charted on CMJ Top 40 Loud Rock Charts, and received acclaim from around the world. The band continued to play shows in the Mid-Atlantic region, opening for Cryptopsy, Nile, Gorguts, Dying Fetus, Vader, Monstrosity, and festival appearances at Milwaukee Metalfest XII, New England Metal and Hardcore Fest – and the band’s first European tour with Fleshless (Cz) in 1999.
PESSIMIST released their second CD, Blood For the Gods, in 1999, which soared into the CMJ Top 30 and received the prestigious “Pick of the Issue.. 10 Fucking Skulls” in SOD Magazine. PESSIMIST became recognized for their unique brand of brutal and technical Black/Death Metal, with old-school thrash influences, an emphasis on quality songwriting, powerful live shows and a dark, evil sound.
In 2001, the band traveled to Tampa, FL to record with producer Erik Rutan, for their third CD, Slaughtering the Faithful, which featured a re-vamped lineup and a faster, more extreme musical direction. More shows followed with Morbid Angel, Hate Eternal, Krisiun, Immolation, Cannibal Corpse, Dark Funeral, festival appearances at March Metal Meltdown, New England Metal and Hardcore Fest, and November to Dismember.
PESSIMIST returned in 2008 with the Evolution Unto Evil CD, a compilation of rare/live demo recordings and tributes to Kreator, Death, Megadeth, and Possessed, which was co-released on Pathos Prod and Deathgasm Recs. This was followed by appearances at New England Deathfest and Hostile City Deathfest. In 2009, the band returned to Europe for their second European tour with label-mates Pandemia (CZ).
In between downtime with the band, founder/guitarist Kelly McLauchlin had also been a member of bands such as UNHOLY GHOST, DIABOLIC, filled in live with ANGELCORPSE, and had later joined Death Metal legends POSSESSED, touring with the band from 2011-2013.
In 2018, PESSIMIST returned to the stage at Maryland Deathfest, headlining Las Vegas Deathfest, Rage of Armageddon Fest (NY), and Ruinfest (CA), and in 2019 released a new single, Keys to the Underworld, which featured studio drummer Kevin Talley (Dying Fetus, Suffocation) and bassist Kelly Conlon (Monstrosity, Death).
Now, in their latest incarnation, the current PESSIMIST lineup includes founder/guitarist Kelly McLauchlin (I Am Morbid, Possessed, etc.), new bassist recruit Andrew Bowen (Carnal Necrosis) ,and vocalist Ivan Alison aka “The Evil One” (Black Mass).
The band is currently writing music for the next full-length album, ‘Keys to the Underworld.’

CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX are now announcing the release of their new EP ‘Painful Reminder / Dead is Dead’ which will be released on July 16th via Season of Mist. In celebration of the EP, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX release the track ‘Painful Reminder’ in the form of a music video which can be viewed here:
In further news, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX are happy to introduce their new male vocalist/lyricist Joel Segerstedt with the new single. The band comments:
“The first thing we’re doing after Ellengæst is a special single. A cover version of the classic SNFU song “Painful Reminder”. And it features new vocalist/lyricist Joel Segerstedt. He joins the band to be the male voice and the contrast to Belinda Kordic in the female/male dynamic which is now an integral part of the CBP sound. Being a Stockholm resident, it seems all the more serendipitous that we find each other. And after hearing his vocal talent in his other band The Open Up And Bleeds, we knew Joel could be the missing piece of the jigsaw.
This release is a way of introducing Joel to our crowd while at the same time, paying tribute to the SNFU vocalist Mr Chi Pig. The song was already on the shortlist of cover song ideas Justin (Greaves) keeps in his pocket, but now was the time to do it because of the sad passing of Chi Pig in 2020. It seemed the right thing to pay our respects to a talented and underrated singer/lyricist and unique character in the punk rock world.“
The cover artwork and track-list of ‘Painful Reminder / Dead is Dead’ can be viewed below.
Track-list 1. Painful Reminder (6:18) 2. Dead is Dead (7:40) Total:13:58
734 years of confusion has made up the historic legacy of CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX. Much has been written and even more has been speculated incorrectly, such is the mystique that surrounds the band. So, let’s cut all the blurb and jump straight from 2004, the beginning of the story, to 2021. The present finds CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX in a good place, a familiar place but also a different one.
Now consisting of founder, multi-instrumentalist and composer Justin Greaves. Vocalist/lyricist Belinda Kordic. Piano, trumpet & synth player Helen Stanley and guitarist Andy Taylor. This core of the band are now also joined by vocalist/lyricist Joel Segerstedt. After recording the critically acclaimed mini-album “Ellengæst” with various friends joining Belinda on vocal duties, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX then focused on finding the right guy to join them as a vocalist.
Greaves says: “Joel was recommended through a past tour manager Jeanette Anderson and Stockholm based guitarist friend Uffe Cederlund. Coming from these good people, we were pretty confident that Joel would be a cool dude. We checked out his band The Open Up And Bleeds, and were digging what we heard, so here we are and we’re feeling really good creatively.”
Joel joins Belinda to be the male part of the now staple female/male vocal combination that’s an integral part of the CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX sound.
This change heralds in the next chapter in the long eventful history of the band. It also sees a band that’s closer and more powerful than ever. With Belinda stepping up to do more vocals and other random sounds, an organic process given that Belinda first appeared in 2011 as part of the band, debuting on “(Mankind) The Crafty Ape” and also becoming a full time band member after spending a lot more time on stage on all the tours. Helen joined in 2016 as part of the “Bronze” album cycle, and then stayed on full-time. Bringing added colour and sass to the band, dropping many suckers with her trumpet skills on stage as well as insane piano action. Andy came along on a couple of trips to play festivals during 2017/18, and it was clear that the union was one that would last and be a sonic success. This has proved true. Andy is now the full time guitarist and compliments Justin’s guitar style perfectly, adding tone and a unique touch to the dynamics of the band.
CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX are, like their namesake, a tough old bird and this new chapter is already off to a great start. ‘Ellengæst’ was received amazingly well, and is a sign of things to come.
“One thing we’ll never do is stick to the rules and stay within the box.”

Today, German black-speed metalpunks Lucifuge stream the entirety of their highly anticipated fourth album, Infernal Power. Set for international release on April 30th via Dying Victims Productions, hear Lucifuge‘s Infernal Power in its entirety here:
For the past five years, Lucifuge have been perfecting an addicting style of blackened speed metalpunk, all guided by the iron fist of mainman Equinox. Starting in 2018, the one-man wrecking crew released a demo, an EP, and the Ride the Beast debut album. The next year was no less busy, with two EPs and the second album Der AntiChrist. And just last year, the full-length The One Great Curse was released and then the digital single “Infernal Power.”
The latter single proved to be a teaser for Lucifuge’s fourth album, also titled Infernal Power. Going from strength to strength and now expanded to a full quartet, here does Equinox take his signature sound – greasy ‘n’ galloping riffs, locomotive rhythmic (dis)charge, and twisted ‘n’ pissed vocals – and spit-shine them with the dirtiest motor oil known to man. It’s all righteously party-hardy stuff, headbanging and boozy to the bitter end, but Infernal Power palatably exudes a startling professionalism usually elusive to those flying the metalpunk banner, no doubt a result of the lineup expansion. Likewise, the EVIL is ramped up here, cobwebs of haunting melodicism draped delicately across Lucifuge’s no-less-crazed attack. And perhaps most interestingly, Equinox covers GISM’s “As Good As It Is,” from that legendary Japanese band’s cult second album, M.A.N., an idiosyncratic blend of epic metal and noise. Which is all to underline the relatively unique ground Lucifuge are travelling with Infernal Power; names such as Inepsy, Blood Spit Nights, and Kriegshog are as easily evoked as those of Exciter, Razor, and English Dogs – and of course, the almighty Warfare and especially equally early Running Wild and Onslaught UK.
The full moon is night, and all the witches are about to dance…prepare to feel Lucifuge’s Infernal Power!
Cover and tracklisting are as follows:
Tracklisting for Lucifuge (Germany)’s Infernal Power 1. Infernal Power 2. Leviathan Arise 3. Black Batallions 4. Temples Of Madness 5. Heresy Shall Remain 6. Beneath The Eyes Of The Black 7. Black Light Of The Evening Star 8. The Doors Of Hell May Shake 9. Good As It Is [GISM cover] 10. Midnight Sun
Today, Norwegian black metallers Nattverd stream their highly anticipated third album, Vandringl. Set for international release on April 30th via Osmose Productions, Vandring forms the final chapter of Nattverd‘s Black Death Trilogy, which includes the 2019 EP Skuggen and 2020’s full-length Styggdom. Stream Nattverd‘s Vandring in its entirety here:
According to the band – whose lineup is composed of Ormr on vocals and guitars, Atyr on guitars, Sveinr on bass, Antichristian on drums, and Serpentr on guitars – Vandring is “a more dynamic album than our last, because we have challenged the core that is Nattverd, whilst at the same time staying true to the spirit that is the band. We have pushed some boundaries, which has resulted in more diverse tracks, that touch a lot on melancholy, and is even more aggression, with epic moments.”
Vandring was recorded during March and April of 2020 at Velvet Recording in Spydeberg, Norway, with producer Christer Krogh, who also mastered the album. Cover artwork, courtesy of Khaos Diktator Design and Ormr, and tracklisting are as follows:
Tracklisting for Nattverd’s Vandring
1. Det Bloer Paa Alt Som Spirer 2. Martyrer Av Kristus 3. Naar Taaken Fortaerer Alt 4. Med Rive Og Lime 5. I Moerket Slumrer Ravnen 6. Gudsmenn, Deres Svik Erkjenn 7. Det Hvisker I Veggene 8. Langt Langt Der Borte I Det Fjerne
Vandring will be available on CD, digital, vinyl LP (both black and limited-edition red versions), and tape formats, and is now available to pre-order from the following:
Formed in the late ’90s, Nattverd is a band that has always preferred that its output be judged on purely musical merits, rather than on the past or future reputations of its extremely skilled and experienced lineup, and to this end, their true identities of its musicians have always been kept private. Today, long-running doom-death masters Majestic Downfall premiere the new track “A Dying Crown” . The track is the second to be revealed from the band’s highly anticipated sixth album, Aorta, set for international release on May 21st via Personal Records. Hear Majestic Downfall‘s “A Dying Crown” in its entirety here:
One of the leading doom-death bands in Latin America with full exposure in the international underground, Majestic Downfall started as a one-man doom journey in August 2006. The idea was to recapture the feeling of the ’90s European death-doom metal scene while mixing it with some more modern metal overtones. In 2007, Majestic Downfall pressed its first demo, The First Abyss Demo 2007, and it contained three songs of melodic-yet-mournful doom.
The year 2009 saw the release of Majestic Downfall‘s debut album, Temple of Guilt, via My Kingdom Music in Europe and Concreto/Personal Records in America. This time, the music contained a darker edge full of sorrow and new influences from bands like Shining and Forgotten Tomb. Temple of Guilt certainly placed Majestic Downfall in the doom/dark metal scene.
The Blood Dance appeared in 2011, Three in 2013, and the split with The Slow Death from Australia in 2014, all of them containing thicker productions, more experimentation, but still keeping the core sound and roots of Majestic Downfall. By now, it was clear the band was a hard working one.
In 2015, Majestic Downfall released …When Dead, one of the band’s most diverse albums, and for the first time, they had an important backing label, which was none other than the mighty Pulverised Records. This release allows the band to tour for the first time on European soil with known bands of the genre like Ophis (Germany) and Ataraxie (France). Majestic Downfall also plays as the first Mexican band ever to do so on the world-renowned 70000 Tons of Metal cruise, a headlining show in New York City, and to headline one of the stages on Force Fest Mexico with bands like Slayer, Carcass, Pestilence, and many more.
Waters of Fate came to life in 2018 via Weird Truth/Solitude/Chaos Records, and the band does a 14-date trek through Canada and concluding it by playing Maryland Death Fest. Also that same year, 2019, Majestic Downfall play the Domination Fest in Mexico City and Mexico Metal Fest in Monterey, Mexico, where the world’s most important bands once again gather.
During the Pandemic, Majestic Downfall write and record their latest album, Aorta. Comprising four songs in an epic 70 minutes, there are no taboos now, no rules or anything: the band is just recording the music they love, no matter where it comes from. It is still doom and always will be, but with every release, there just happens to be much more, and Aorta is a perfect example, going from suffocating to vibrating, damning to liberating, utterly devastated to strangely hopeful – but always CRUSHING, and devastatingly so.
Credit for that goes to the mixing & mastering courtesy of Tore Stjerna at Necromorbus Studio, who has worked with Watain, Mayhem, Desultory, Ondkapt, Valkyrja, and many, many more. The stark yet mysteriously beautiful cover artwork was done by Oscar de las Flores, who has nothing to do with metal, and that surely gives Aorta a different vibe. Majestic Downfall return, mightier and more majestic/miserable than ever…bleed through Aorta.
Begin bleeding with the previously revealed opening track “Roberta” HERE at Personal Records‘ Bandcamp, where the album can also be preordered. Aforementioned cover art and tracklisting are as follows:

Season of Mist is proud to announce the signing of blackened heavy metal band NITE! The San Francisco outfit will be releasing it’s second full-length via the label at a later date. Stay tuned for more!
NITE comments, “All of us in the circle of NITE are very excited to announce our signing with Season of Mist. We look forward to working with their talented and experienced team to bring our music to the unsuspecting masses. We are thrilled to join the label’s echelon of innovative artists whose legacy looms large over the history of modern heavy music.”
For a glimpse of what’s to come, check out NITE‘s Bandcamp and stream their 2020 debut album, ‘Darkness Silence Mirror Flame,’ HERE.
The San Francisco Bay Area has a history steeped in forward-thinking, technically dazzling metal, and NITE carries that torch with pride. Founded in 2018, their blackened heavy metal brand barrels towards the peril of an unknown future, while keeping one eye on the days when blistering leads once ruled the land. Guitarists Van Labrakis (Satan’s Wrath, Mencea) and Scott Hoffman (Dawnbringer, High Spirits) let loose galloping riffs and harmonies that evoke the classic sounds of the N.W.O.B.H.M., with Labrakis’ grizzled voice driving their dark, melodic metal into the modern era.
With Avinash Mittur (Wild Hunt) replacing founding bassist Bryan Coons in early 2021, he and drummer Patrick Crawford (Serpents of Dawn, Older Sun) make up a rhythm section that’s fierce yet breathlessly precise: a freewheel pounding reminiscent of the early days of heavy metal, with a Rickenbacker-powered roar fueling the low end. NITE’s debut full-length Darkness Silence Mirror Flame, released in March 2020 by Creator-Destructor Records, earned widespread praise. It showcased their fist-raising classic heavy metal that nearly every fan of the genre once fell in love with, but with a twisted and shadowy edge that the titans of old could never imagine. NITE is the flame of the past illuminating the darkness of tomorrow.

Today, long-running Mexican black-doom cult Hagel premiere the new track “Blindness” . The track is the second to be revealed from the band’s long-awaited debut album, Veneration of the Black Light, set for international release on May 21st via Personal Records. Hear Hagel‘s “Blindness” in its entirety here:
Formed back in 1995, Hagel are an atmospheric black-doom band hailing from Monterrey, Mexico. The original lineup comprised Carlos Velázquez (Ulveheim, Sacratus, Noctambulism) on guitar, Luis Galindo on keyboards and vocals, Fernando Galindo on bass, and David Benavides on drums. Due to personal reasons, the band went on hiatus in the year 2000. While recordings are rumored to exist, Hagel never publicly revealed any demos during this period.
In 2014, Carlos decided to re-form the band and started recruiting musicians to form the new lineup; not too long after, the new Hagel was reborn. The new lineup consisted of Juan Reyes (Buzrael) on drums, Elizabeth Castillo (S.O.Y.G) on bass, and Ivan Saldaña (Alpha Hydrae, Hiborym) on guitar and vocals. In 2017, one of the founding members, keyboardist Luis Galindo, rejoined the band.
In 2019, Hagel entered the studio to record their first full-length, in a professional way. Bearing the title Veneration of the Black Light, the record was finished, mixed, and mastered on December 2019, all before the world fell into chaos. In May 2020, the band gave their first preview with the single “Decalogue of Misery,” an all-too-apropos title for the times.
At long last, the full strength of Hagel is revealed with Veneration of the Black Light.Refreshingly retro or at least traditional, Hagel remain true to their original ’90s vision with a sound favorably comparable to early Mortuary Drape, The Gathering circa Always…, Switzerland’s Sadness, 1992/93-era Katatonia, old Rotting Christ, Ophthalamia, Bethlehem circa Dark Metal, and Moonspell’s classic Under the Moonspell. In other words, when everything was dark and foggy and shrouded in obscurity and mysticism, those glorious ’90s…and Hagel resurrects that, with power and authenticity, across Veneration of the Black Light – because they were THERE. Reborn…undead!
Hear the first sounds of that undead rebirth with the previously revealed “Decalogue of Misery” HERE at Personal Records‘ official YouTube channel. Cover and tracklisting are as follows:
Tracklisting for Hagel’s Veneration of the Black Light
1. Decalogue of Misery 2. Veneration Of The Black Light 3. Blindness 4. Labyrinth Of Flesh 5. Mystery Of The Mortal 6. Pergamum 7. The Blazing Glow Of Eternity 8. Whims Of A God
Belarusian black metal band KHANDRA have released the second brand-new track of their upcoming album ‘All Occupied by Sole Death’. The new record will be out on Season of Mist Underground Activists on May 28, 2021. Listen to the band’s title-track ‘All Occupied by Sole Death’ here:
‘All Occupied by Sole Death’ is available for pre-orders at the Season of Mist shop HERE.
KHANDRA have furthermore unveiled the cover artwork and tracklist for ‘All Occupied by Sole Death’. The artwork was made by Chris Kiesling (Misantropic Art).

Shrouded in a veil of mystery and death, Belarussian black metal act KHANDRA are soon to release their new offering ‘All occupied by sole Death’ upon mankind. Characterized by aggressiveness, dissonance and by creating a strong sense of atmosphere, the band’s third assault seamlessly fits in with the wave of black metal fronted by MGŁA and BLAZE OF PERDITION.
KHANDRA’s first revelations were perpetrated in October 2017 under the banner ‘All is of no avail’ which subsequently merged with its successor ‘There’s no division outside existence’ in October 2018. These seeds sprouted even more fatal progression of metastases which transformed into ‘All occupied by sole Death’.
Khandra [xɐnˈdra] is a term to describe deathly ennui over the nothing. With that in mind, one can expect ‘All occupied by sole Death’ to be a dark and cold work of art. The musical vessel here is a result of expression that has no bonds with any personal emotion of social nature.
