Today, Osmose Productions sets May 31st as the international release date for Vortex of End‘s highly anticipated third album, Ardens Fvror, on CD and vinyl LP formats.
Born in the northeast of France in the early 2000s, Vortex of End is one of the most uncompromising bands that has risen and terrorized a slowly dying black metal scene. Years have made Vortex of End‘s music richer, its violence harder, and its ritual more glorious, and the band thus became the spearhead of what French black metal should have never stopped being: a mix of totalitarian darkness, an elevation through pain, courage through destruction, intelligence through violence, accomplishment in blood. Blood Harvest Records, in conspiracy with Rotted Life, is proud to present Pestilent Death‘s highly anticipated second album, Chapters of Depravity, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats. The CD and cassette versions will be released on April 5th while the vinyl version will follow on May 24th.
Hailing from Los Angeles, for nearly a decade now, Pestilent Death have pursued a stridently pure and pustulent form of death metal. Prolific and proudly DIY, this power-trio belched forth a debut album in 2016 that laid bare exactly what Pestilent Death is all about: Eulogies of Putrefaction. Now, armed with the support of Blood Harvest, they’re prepared to vomit their next disgusting chapter.
Appropriately titled Chapters of Depravity, Pestilent Death‘s second album consolidates all the band’s strengths to date and compromises not one fucking bit. As you’ll hear across these eight individual chapters contained within, theirs is a filthy-yet-brooding style of TOTAL DEATH METAL – by death metal maniacs, for death metal maniacs – that succeeds through simplicity of design and absolute gutsfucking heaviness. The specter of early ’90s Finland looms large across these Chapters of Depravity as well as the tendrils of influence the original Swedeath wave spread across the underground, but instead of offering slavish replication of yesteryear, Pestilent Death instead spit out a rottenly fresh take on pummeling putridity.
Suitably adorned with crypt-ic art courtesy of Vaizal Rotten Art, Chapters of Depravity is required reading for all fans of Pestilent Death and anyone into the truest Metal of Death! The full truth can be streamed here:

Today, atmospheric black metal elite Ellende stream the entirety of their highly anticipated third album, Lebensnehmer, below. Set for international release on March 29th via AOP Records, the album will be released on CD, vinyl LP, and boxset formats, with both the vinyl and boxset editions featuring an exclusive bonus track.
Founded in 2011 by multi-instrumentalist L.G., Ellende has always strived for the melancholy, anger, and beauty that is buried in our mere existence and misanthropy. Deeply rooted in black metal, the project didn’t fear wisely selected instrumentation in order to achieve a unique atmosphere and songwriting style. This mainly includes strings, brass, and other classical instruments, as well as L.G. doing most of the studio work and all artwork and design himself. After the independent release of Rückzug in die Innerlichkeit by L.G. in 2012, Ellende became a live band with session musicians and three releases, and some successful European tours followed.
The attention for Ellende peaked with their second album, Todbringer, in 2017, which was hailed as one of the most outstanding atmospheric/post-black metal albums of the year by many critics and audiences, hitting nearly a half-million views on YouTube in a few months and successively selling out its initial physical pressing.
Patiently taking two years to perfect the songwriting, Ellende‘s third full-length (and fifth release overall), Lebensnehmer is now finished. Featuring live musician P.F. on drums like on previous records, Lebensnehmer vividly displays all the sturm und drang of the trademark Ellende sound, now more breathtaking than ever. Taking a more adventurous approach to dynamics as well as exhibiting a clarity of focus previously untouched, Lebensnehmer moves like a literal emotional rollercoaster – hitting the highest of highs, and especially the lowest of lows – spellbinding the listener at every skyscraping turn. As ever, the stirring melodicism of L.G. takes center stage, weaving emotive ecstasy even while a torrent of blastbeats from P.F. booms all around here. Elsewhere, suitably splendorous atmosphere is evoked through frequent stretched-out instrumental passages, allowing both drama and tension to wage war within the listener’s heart and head. And of course, only the most sterling production standards were sought by L.G, with recording & mixing at Audioriotrecordings Austria and mastering by Iguana Studios Germany.
As the mainman enthuses, “I am truly grateful how this record turned out. As the title already implies, Lebensnehmer – or ‘life taker,’ in English – has a very strong connotation coming about two years after its sister album Todbringer, which is ‘death bringer’ in English. Going through rough times, it fills me with a sense of well-being when another selection of music has been made into a full-length result of anger, melancholy, and beauty. Being surrounded by very gifted musicians and sound engineers, you can expect another milestone from Ellende.”
No truer words spoken. Ellende‘s atmospheric black metal dominance continues with Lebensnehmer! The album’s release will be promptly followed by a five-date tour featuring AOP Records labelmates Firtan, Spiral Skies, and Groza (dates after the jump). In the leadup to its international release this Friday, hear Lebensnehmer in its entirety here:

ROTTEN SOUND have firmly established themselves as one of the leading acts of the grindcore scene. Expertly wielding the fierce brutality and massive aggression of their genre, the Finns add intelligent songwriting, effective arrangements, and musical proficiency as well as subtle death metal elements to their sound.
Their forthcoming new EP ‘Suffer to Abuse’, which is not to be confused with their latest full-length album, ‘Abuse to Suffer’ (2016), embodies those aforementioned virtues to the point. The EP delivers seven short sharp chops that hit home perfectly.
ROTTEN SOUND was conceived in the city of Vaasa, Finland by guitarist Mika Aalto in 1993, who was soon joined by vocalist and word-smith Keijo Niinimaa. The duo still remains in place, while the original members in all other positions have been replaced several times until today.
The Finns can field an impressive catalogue of seven highly acclaimed studio albums, now eight EPs, three split singles, a single, and a live DVD. Furthermore, ROTTEN SOUND have already conquered the stages of all major metal and hardcore oriented festivals and also toured in regular intervals alongside such renowned acts as MALEVOLENT CREATION, PHOBIA, DISFEAR CARCASS, MUNICIPAL WASTE, EXHUMED, NAPALM DEATH, and PIG DESTROYER – among many others.
With ‘Suffer to Abuse’, ROTTEN SOUND are gearing up their musical juggernaut just in time before crushing stages all over Asia and Europe this spring. Hold on tight and enjoy the bliss of this heavily whirling grind-tornado!
Today, Spanish dark metallers Totengott reveal the cover art of their imminent second album, The Abyss, as well as the first advance single of the album, which will be released on April 16th through Xtreem Music on CD format and Burning World on vinyl format.
Containing four long tracks, The Abyss has been recorded, produced and mixed by Totengott at The New Farm studio during 2018 and early 2019, and has again been mastered by James Plotkin (known for his work for bands like Conan, Electric Wizard, Isis the band, Amenra, Thou, Jesu). The design of the cover was made by Néstor Ávalos.

Today, Werewolf Records, in conspiracy with Hells Headbangers, sets April 26th as the international release date for Vargrav‘s highly anticipated second album, Reign in Supreme Darkness, on CD and vinyl LP formats.
Hailing from Finland, the root of Vargrav originated during starless nights in late 2015. Working in clandestine solitude, sole creator V-Khaoz – a prolific veteran of the Finnish black metal underground, dating back to the late ’90s – soon shaped the initial vision of Vargrav‘s debut album and submitted it, in demo form, to various labels. During the the summer of 2016, Werewolf Records was immediately chosen to be the most suitable collaborator with which to work, and the sinister glow of the black flame began to burn brighter…
Alas, at the dawn of 2018 came Vargrav‘s debut album, Netherstorm, and it indeed took the underground by storm, garnering rave reviews across the world. Not surprising, this, as the album offered a boundlessly fresh perspective by honoring the ancient past: specifically, the oft-unjustly-derided “symphonic black metal” subgenre, which back in simpler, more idealistic times was simply BLACK METAL. No matter what appellation you put it, Netherstorm radiated a spellbinding magick that was impossible to deny. The past was alive, with Vargrav lighting the way…
And now, V-Khaoz returns to quickly eclipse that feat with Vargrav‘s second album, Reign in Supreme Darkness. Ever aptly titled, Reign in Supreme Darkness is essentially an intensification and consolidation of Netherstorm‘s most enduring traits, expanding the band’s lexicon by basically speaking it more boldly than before. Still a swarming, densely layered maelstrom of medieval majesty and moonlit madness, here Vargrav heightens the drama that’s latently laid at the band’s core, focusing the attack into more finessed form, and stripping away some of its predecessor’s more blizzard-blown excesses. In their stead arrives a more dynamic approach to songwriting, varying tempos while maximizing movement, and an overall more mournful and mysterious aspect to the prominent layers of synth.
Just as timeless as Netherstorm, if not more so, Vargrav once again evokes the visionary works of old Obtained Enslavement, Dimmu Borgir, Abigor, Limbonic Art, and especially early Emperor. And once again, another classic of symphonic black metal graces the purple-velvet landscape of our imagination, and it bears the justifiably arrogant title of Reign in Supreme Darkness.
Werewolf Records is a Luciferian metal temple founded in 1998. The wolfish cry from the Carelian battlegrounds, Werewolf Records releases black metal and other dark arts motivated exclusively by theistic Satanist views of the founder Werwolf. In this age when black metal’s worth is questionable, idealism and rigor are the exception when they should be the highest law. We uphold the law of the Wolf – the destruction of the weak and the false so that the original vitality of the dark magic art can continue to grow and create the foundations for an empire. Black metal is Will and Power. We deal with material that inspires us on our journey towards our own kingdom – a kingdom that is not yours, but bears a resemblance to the one there could be for you. Now in conspiracy with Hells Headbangers, the temple of Werewolf Records shall wage its war farther and wider than ever, with no spiritual surrender.

Today, Iron Bonehead Productions sets June 7th as the international release date for Mutilate‘s highly anticipated second album, Contagium, on CD and vinyl LP formats.
Hailing from New York, Mutilate are literally a blast from the past. Sounding as if time stopped some 30 years ago, this quartet create crude ‘n’ rude black-cum-death metal that was only brewed in the darkest dungeons of the underground circa 1987. As such, they aesthetically nod to the likes of Death Strike, Helllhammer, Nunslaughter, and Goatlord (U.S.) as well as the torchbearers that came after those pioneers during the ’90s like Benediction, Acheron, Usurper, and Sathanas. It’s stripped-down and simple, and unapologetically so, and done with absolute belief and total authenticity. Trend-mongers couldn’t tolerate Tormentium, their debut album for Iron Bonehead last year, and yet the record won the support of those who do not entry to the false.
Now, striking while the iron’s red-hot, Mutilate return with the even stronger and more disgusting Contagium. Aptly titled, Contagium is a throbbing wellspring of pus and pestilence: crude ‘n’ rude DEATH METAL from an arcane age. Without almost effortless aplomb, Mutilate build upon the already-firm rudiments of Tormentium and simply add a darker, more crushing aspect as well as classically headbanging moments. And yet, for the even-more-overt heaviness here, Contagium also breathes a more haunting, otherworldly atmosphere – much like its cover art, as it were – perhaps best exemplified by the album’s closing title track. Dizzying and delirious, or simply downtuned and doomed to fuck: there’s no escaping this Contagium!

March 20, 2019 – Los Angeles, CA – The legendary Norwegian longstanding partnership of Fenriz and Ted “Nocturno Culto” Skjellum, return with their first studio album since 2016’s hugely popular ‘Arctic Thunder’, in the shape of ‘Old Star’. With a mastery and endless dedication to the art of the riff, the Norwegian legends cut through 6 new epic tracks, taking in the best of the old school of heavy & extreme metal plus a large dose of doom-laden riffing, & channelling it through the grime of the underground. Fenriz enthuses, “Old star – again we are here with THE RIFFS! A while after our previous ARCTIC THUNDER album it became apparent that we would continue in that same style, BLACK OLD HEAVY METAL with slow thrash, classic doom and slow death metal.”
As many have focused on the 70s sound over the last 20 years, the mix on our new album has ended up being more 80s than ever. The songs are more metal than ever! Ted’s songs have alot of black metal in them, faster and slower but also doomier parts and reocurring parts. My songs are more linear written, it’s an ancient 80s underground trick, with breaks, all slow heavy or slow thrash, classic doom or slow death.»
He continues, “All in all it is our most 80s album so far and our most metal one to date with drum sound typical for the 80s USA/German market and damned lyrics, which are all written by me. We feel that OLD STAR is the big brother of ARCTIC THUNDER. More solid and with even better riffs.”
Old Star was recorded at the band’s Necrohell 2 Studios, with engineering and production duties carried out by vocalist/guitarist Nocturno Culto, complemented with a perfectly organic mix courtesy of Sanford Parker (Voivod) at Hypercube Studios, & mastered once more by Jack Control at Enormous Door. The stellar cover artistry comes courtesy of Chadwick St John, titled “The Shepherd of the Deep”.
Over the course of 30 years, Norway’s Darkthrone has become a staple of the global black metal genre, forging a legacy as one of the most renowned and influential bands in its illustrious & often infamous history. In the formative years following their 1987 inception, Darkthrone initially started with a strong concoction of thrash & then death/doom metal experimentation, with broader musical influences spanning from the 60s to the 80s, before the debut album Soulside Journey was unleashed in 1991. Never ones to follow convention or stand still even then, the band soon embraced a much darker, more primitive form of expression with the now iconic second album A Blaze in the Northern Sky, & the rest became history.

The Dutch masters of horror are
back with their most flamboyant album so far. On ‘Dance and Laugh amongst the
Rotten’, CARACH ANGREN are painting musical pictures that
easily combine the grandiose depth of a Rembrandt with Van Gogh’s maelstrom of
whirling colours and the utter madness of Bosch. This lusciously seductive danse
macabre will drag you in and never let go.
CARACH ANGREN
have employed all the sonic colours on their palette to dazzling effect. Their
trademark whipping guitars are weaving harsh melodies and sinister soundscapes,
which are beautifully contrasted by opulent keyboards and majestic
orchestrations. That Till Lindemann (RAMMSTEIN) and Peter Tägtgren (PAIN) have
called upon the composition talent of Clemens “Ardek” Wijers is a telling sign
of his outstanding mastery of the craft. Another signatory counterpoint is
provided by Seregor’s fierce rasping and shrieking vocals. Adding to the impact,
Namtar has become a relentless driving force with his hard hitting yet intricate
drumming. Each track on this album is a highlight on its own, while combined
‘Dance and Laugh amongst the Rotten’ simply shines.
CARACH
ANGREN set out to tell ghost-stories with a set of paranormal cases
recorded on the demo ‘The Chase Vault Tragedy’ (2004). This was soon followed by
the official release of the ‘Ethereal Veiled Existence’ EP (2005) as a prelude
to the haunting ‘Lammendam’ (2008). The Dutch had a clear vision of combining a
dark baroque style of metal with horror based lyrical concepts. Their sophomore
full-length ‘Death Came through a Phantom Ship’ (2010) witnessed the band
setting sail to bring their eccentric and capturing live performances to
audiences and festivals all over Europe. In the wake of third album ‘Where the
Corpses Sink Forever’ (2012), the haunting had reached the Americas and started
to spread rapidly. This recorded added a serious side to the lyrics of
CARACH ANGREN. While firmly remaining in the horror genre,
their tales revolve around the evils of war. This mature streak was taken a step
further with the fourth full-length ‘This Is No Fairytale’, which is on the
surface a darker variation of the “Hansel and Gretel” story from the Brothers
Grimm collection, but also deals with the too real topic of child abuse in a
dysfunctional family.
With ‘Dance and Laugh amongst the Rotten’,
CARACH ANGREN are returning to “pure” storytelling with
episodes that are centered on a girl playing a little too long with her Ouija
board. The Dutch have pushed their unashamedly theatric style to a new intense
height. You do not believe us yet? Press play and unleash these radiant ghosts
into your home…

‘Great Escape’, this beautiful touch of darkness comes hardly as a surprise, when taking into account that CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX mastermind Justin Greaves has previously gone public about his personal fight against severe depression. Similar dark themes and traits have already been a hallmark of the UK rockers’ latest full-length, ‘Bronze’ (2016).
CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX have always confounded critics trying to pin their style down ever since founder Justin Greaves recorded his first ideas in 2004 – which earned them tagging attempts ranging from “stoner prog” through “freak folk” to “psychedelic doom”. Despite the wide range of musical leanings within their albums, there are a unifying dark streak and somber melancholy running through the songs. Greaves had already made himself a name as drummer for IRON MONKEY and ELECTRIC WIZARD among others. When the multi-instrumentalist finally decided to stand on his own musical feet, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX was born. This involves a changing cast of musicians and live set-ups which mirrored the ever-ongoing evolution of the band, and the fact that the songs were mostly not composed with a live performance on mind.
Between 2007 and 2014, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX released a string of five critically highly acclaimed studio albums – namely ‘A Love of Shared Disasters’ (2007), ‘The Resurrectionists’ (2009), ‘Night Raider’ (2009), ‘(Mankind) The Crafty Ape’ (2012), and ‘White Light Generator’ (2014). This was complemented by EPs ‘I, Vigilante’ (2010), ‘No Sadness or Farewell’ (2012), and ‘Oh’ Ech-oes’ (2015), the live recording ‘Live Poznan’ (2013), and the ‘200 Tons of Bad Luck’ compilation (2009). Their ‘New Dark Age Tour EP 2015 A.D.’ was the band’s first release on Season of Mist and came with an extensive homage to PINK FLOYD. The strong influence of the UK rock giants could also be felt on ‘Bronze’ (2016), yet while CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX never denied their roots, this outstanding act has long created their own sonic cosmos.
With last year’s ‘Horrific Honorifics’ offering, the band elegantly payed tribute to great artists and classic songs while making those tracks their own in sound and spirit without compromising the integrity of the original masterpieces.
Now with ‘Great Escape’, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX take you on their new adventure and let you explore their sonic cosmos even further, and where all its emotions are reflected on to this earth. From the angry “Rain Black”, to the unnerving “Madman” and forgiving “Nebulas”, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX arise once more.
