America’s OBSCENE announce tour dates for March and April

Today, American death metallers Obscene announce tour dates for this spring. The tour will encompass the American Midwest and East Coast, and joining Obscene will be Molder. Full list of dates as well as poster art are as follows:
3/31 – Chicago, IL @ Reggies
4/1 – Youngstown, OH @ Westside Bowl
4/2 Philadelphia, PA @ Kung Fu Necktie
4/3 – Cambridge, MA @ Middle East
4/4 – Brooklyn, NY @ Saint Vitus
4/5 – Washington, DC @ DC Hell
4/6 – Cleveland, OH @ No Class
4/7 – Detroit, MI @ Outer Limits Lounge
4/8 – Indianapolis, IN @ Black Circle

Conjured in 2016, Obscene are a death metal quartet from Indianapolis, Indiana. Following their Sermon to the Snake demo in late 2017, they quickly caught the attention of Sweden’s Blood Harvest, who reissued the demo on cassette and digital formats in early 2018. 2020 saw the release of Obscene‘s debut LP, The Inhabitable Dark. The record, earning year-end accolades from the likes of Zero Tolerance, Invisible Oranges, Grizzly Butts, Last Rites, etc. continues to garner praise of fans and critics internationally. 2020 prevented Obscene from performing live; in 2021, the band resurfaced for successful festival appearances at Tri State Terror and Full Terror Assault alongside acts such as Nunslaughter, Wraith, and Bat as well as a Chicago crusher with Skeletal Remains and Molder while resuming writing and recording …From Dead Horizon to Dead Horizon

Now 2022 sees the release of that highly anticipated second album, ….From Dead Horizon to Dead Horizon. Recorded by engineer Noah Buchanan (Midnight, Nunslaughter) at Mercinary Studios and mastered by Dan Swano (Bloodbath, Hail of Bullets) at Unisound AB, the follow-up to the band’s critically acclaimed The Inhabitable Dark full-length is as bulldozingly devastating as it is infectious and memorable. Far and away their most surgical performance to date, …From Dead Horizon to Dead Horizon bursts at the seams with world-eating rhythms, barbaric riffs, and pained howls at the moon. Obscene don’t care about reinventing the wheel; rather, they opt to keep the faithful wheel turning. The album is suitably adorned with the cover art of Skadvaldur (Coffin Rot, Ripped to Shreds). Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

Tracklisting for Obscene (U.S.)’s …From Dead Horizon to Dead Horizon
1. From Dead Horizon
2. I Shall Drink the Earth’s Blood
3. Deathless Demigod
4. Faith Through Pain
5. Insensate Cruelty
6. The Burrowing Hiss
7. Shrew’s Nest
8. Children of the Static

CONJURETH premiere new track – features members of ENCOFFINATION, VOIDCEREMONY, GHOULGOTHA+++

Today, ancient death metal upholders Conjureth premiere the new track “Cremated Dominion”. The track is the second to be revealed from the band’s highly anticipated second album, The Parasitic Chambers, set for international release on January 23rd, 2023 via Memento Mori. Hear Conjureth‘s “Cremated Dominion” in its entirety here:

Although they formed in 2018, Conjureth went on a tear starting in 2020, unleashing two demos, Foul Formations and The Levitation Manifest, which all culminated in their debut album for Memento Mori. Ominously titled Majestic Dissolve, Conjureth‘s first full-length achieved its goal – continuing the traditions forged by the originators of death metal – and then some. That they achieved that goal so swiftly and effortlessly was perhaps unsurprising – after all, this lineup of Conjureth do have or have done time in such bands as Encoffination, VoidCeremony and Ghoulgotha, among many others – but the power-trio slayed their way through late ’80s-inspired filth like a well-oiled/slimed machine.

Now, Conjureth return with an album that arguably eclipses that all-too-considerable predecessor: The Parasitic Chambers. Keenly understanding that death metal DOESN’T need to change – or rather, the wheel doesn’t need reinvention – Conjureth turn that wheel with even more power and poise than before whilst keeping their core sound intact. Like that predecessor, The Parasitic Chambers locates that all-too-short time when death metal wasn’t primarily full of blastbeats, caveman riffs, ultra-low-tuned guitars, and super-guttural vocals, slotting into that bygone age of 1986-to-1989-style death metal with a heaping portion of thrash metal riffing and a dash of the technical side of things that would be unearthed a few years later. If anything, Conjureth make their deathrashing musings even more manic and muscular here: while more ripping than ever, the riffing takes tons of wild & weird detours, often literally blowing the mind, as the rhythms take the “by the books” approach and bend the cover backwards; meanwhile, the trio’s multi-tentacled attack retains a full-bodied sense of heft that’s sharpened to an enviable degree by the clear-yet-crushing production. Or, simply imagine late ’80s Tampa receiving strange & unsettling transmissions from a Finland a few years ahead. If Majestic Dissolve celebrated the past giving birth to the future, then The Parasitic Chambers is the sound of that future beginning to beautifully rot.

Graced with yet another mesmerizing cover courtesy of Erskine Designs, The Parasitic Chambers continues Conjureth‘s ascent as one of the most time-WARPING bands around!

Begin time-warping with the previously revelaed “Smothering Psalms” HERE at Memento Mori‘s official YouTube channel. Aforementioned cover art and tracklisting are as follows:

Tracklisting for Conjureth’s The Parasitic Chambers
1. Smothering Psalms
2. Dimensional Ascendancy
3. Devastating Cataclysmic Unearthing
4. Cremated Dominion
5. Deathless Sway of Torsos Calm
6. A Blood Romance
7. The Ancient Presence
8. In Mortal Thresholds
9. From Ceremonies Past

PESTIFER ink deal with DMP

Haunting the Death Metal scene with devastating music and crushing live shows since 2004, PESTIFER have already unleashed three highly acclaimed albums. On most recent opus “Expanding Oblivion” (2020), the group successfully paired an elaborate science-fiction concept with sonic aggression, ethereal melodies, intricate riffing and a special emphasis on song-structure. PESTIFER soar through the sublimity of the night sky into the cold and annihilating darkness of outer space!

Proudly, we announce that PESTIFER has joined Debemur Morti Productions to unleash further sinister and sophisticated obliterations. Vocalist Jérôme Bernard narrates about PESTIFER‘s Art:

We are glad to be part of the Debemur Morti Productions family! I think the spectrum of darkness we evoke in our music is very wide and that is clearly something we naturally tend to. At least, I could say there is nothing positive emerging from the sound we create: our music is a mix of dreadful and dissonant chords, enigmatic melodies, threatening riffs or insane atmospheres but it varies a lot. Layers are often quite numerous without any ounce of happiness. We also focus on structures, probably without choosing the easiest path, but we believe that it makes the songs of PESTIFER as unique as possible. Lyrics follow that rule too. They mainly tell stories about the darkness of existence itself with a science-fiction aspect. Nevertheless, is there anything darker than outer space?

First collaborative emanation, the new EP “Defeat Of The Nemesis“, will see the light of day in 2023. Jérôme allows a glimpse into what’s to come:

The core of PESTIFER remains the same but I could say we explored more horizons than in our previous releases. There are certainly more bold attempts with moods we never even approached before. But there are other aspects that can remind people of our first release as well: some reborn aggression, more anger. That’s also the reason why we wanted the production to be very powerful. “Defeat Of The Nemesis” is a concept EP with a main lyrical theme about cosmos colonization by the human race. Every song represents a new civilization which is influenced by a specific mental pathology. Anyway, you can expect adventurous bass lines, serpentine guitar riffs, furious vocals, and tireless drums.

Furthermore, as it was recently announced, the band will also perform on the 2023 edition of Hellfest Open Air Festival in France.

PESTIFER are:

Philippe Gustin – drums
Jérôme Bernard – vocals
Valéry Bottin – guitars
Adrien Gustin – bass

Follow the band on Facebook and Instagram and listen to their latest album, “Expanding Oblivion“, via Bandcamp

PESTIFER is a metal band that has been haunting Belgium since 2004. Composed of four humanoids, the group plays an original music mixing aggressivity, melodies and personality with emphasis on the songs’ structure, elaborate riffing and the general atmosphere.

The project was fantasized by young hairy twins, fanatics of the 90’s Death Metal scene. With a first EP in 2006, PESTIFER aligns concerts on a local scale. In 2010, the band takes a new dimension releasing its first album, “Age Of Disgrace“. Two European tours in support of KATAKLYSM and KRISIUN follow and they sign with Ultimhate Records.

After a new 13-date European tour with NILE, PESTIFER release a new album on Greatdane Records in 2014. “Reaching The Void” confirms the band’s musical direction and brings a new trend with more “sci-fi” themes.

The following years, the band undergoes some line-up changes with the arrival of a new guitar player. In mid-2019, the band records a concept album, marking a new milestone for PESTIFER. The album, the result of several years of writing, is released in March 2020 on Xenokorp Records, a few days before the worldwide lockdown. During that period, PESTIFER sign a publishing contract with Les Editions Hurlantes (GOJIRA, IMMORTAL, MARDUK…).

In 2021, the band releases a video documentary. The film is directed by Giov‘ and focuses on the band’s life during covid. 2022 sees PESTIFER sign a contract with Debemur Morti Productions.

ABYSMAL LORD stream new HELLS HEADBANGERS album

Today, New Orleans barbarians Abysmal Lord stream the entirety of their highly anticipated third album, Bestiary of Immortal Hunger. Set for international release on December 30th via Hells Headbangers on CD and cassette tape formats – the vinyl version will follow next year – hear Abysmal Lord‘s Bestiary of Immortal Hunger in its entirety here:

Since their grand emergence in 2014 with the Storms of Unholy Black Mass debut EP, New Orleans’ Abysmal Lord have vaulted to the forefront of the modern bestial metal scene. Red-eyed and rabid, their primeval surge swallows listeners whole with preternatural ease – or simply (black)grinds them down to dust. Under the auspices of Hells Headbangers, the band has gone from strength to strength with each new recording, each one a swift ‘n’ tactical strike on all that is holy and pure. Both 2015’s Disciples of the Inferno and 2019’s Exaltation of the Infernal Cabal have established Abysmal Lord as a none-more-formidable name in the metal underground, with their shock ‘n’ awe live prowess proving that such sonic bestiality is best witnessed in the flesh.

Since the release of 2020’s Cathedral EP, much has transpired in Abysmal Lord camp. A tumultuous period, drummer Barbaric Slayer exited the band to further pursue a spiritual journey deeper inward. Meanwhile, vocalist/guitarist Nocturnal Damnation and bassist/guitarist Guillotine committed themselves to continuing the path of no return. With no reasonable alternative, Abysmal Lord decided that, for their next full-length, Nocturnal Damnation will handle drumming duties (as was done on the aforementioned Storms of Unholy Black Mass). Maximum effort was expended to ensure that the brutality and chaos of Barbaric Slayer’s tradition was honored and continued.

And indeed it has, and then some, with the arrival of Bestiary of Immortal Hunger. On first glance, Abysmal Lord‘s third album retains all the red-eyed and rabid elements of yore – OTT explosion and forward propulsion in the grand tradition of Blasphemy, Black Witchery, and Proclamation and then malforming it into morbid, miasmic shapes – but peer deeper into this gurgling pit of despair & darkness and one will find surprising twists to their core sound. Foremost, perhaps, is the unhinged drumming of Nocturnal Damnation; foregoing sustained blasting, instead he draws influence from the fucked-up ‘n’ feral drumming of DD Crazy (during his early Sarcofago days as well as Sextrash) and Hadez’ Tonyn Destructor, especially on that band’s Guerroros de la Muerte demo. Unorthodox but undeniably effective, these more angular and askew rhythms form a (feral/fucked-up) foundation for Abysmal Lord‘s most CRAZED and chaotic songwriting to date.

As such, while retaining their foundational elements, Abysmal Lord’s newest offering bears semblance to South America’s most infernal names: the aforementioned early days of Hadez, Sarcofago, and especially Sextrash but also Holocausto, Parabellum, and Reencarnacion. With an even more unsettling style of evil and total darkness, not to mention a plethora of mind-melted solos, Bestiary of Immortal Hunger also slots itself well alongside Mystifier’s pivotal first couple albums and early Beherit. Naturally, naysayers will still contend that this unholy racket is still “just” bestial metal or war metal or whatever – and for Abysmal Lord, that’s fine, as hailing and giving honor to a certain tradition in metal is part of the essence of this wider subculture. Those who know, know, and they will understand deeper, darker truths with this Bestiary of Immortal Hunger.

ACT OF IMPALEMENT set release date for new CALIGARI album, reveal first track

Today, Caligari Records announces February 2nd, 2023 as the international release date for Act of Impalement‘s highly anticipated second album, Infernal Ordinance, on CD and cassette tape formats.

Formed in 2012, Nashville’s Act of Impalement steadily sharpened their sound over a handful of demos and EPs, culminating in the 2018 debut album, Perdition Cult. Always a power-trio, Act of Impalement‘s sound has never been easy to categorize; galloping, oft-doomy death metal and blackened crust are always at the fore, but Perdition Cult showed ever more sides to the band, including moshable thrash and blown-out sludge. This relative variety should’ve proved a boon, but Act of Impalement went on a recording hiatus thereafter.

Work began on Act of Impalement‘s second album in February 2020, when all instruments were recorded; vocals were then done in March 2021, with everything recorded & mixed by Yautja’s Shibby Poole. The wait was definitely worth it, for Infernal Ordinance is a monstrous work, with Act of Impalement at their gutsfucking and most focused best. Eschewing some of the variety of its full-length predecessor, Act of Impalement‘s second album surges forward with more songwriting finesse; every riff is given maximal room to inflict damage, every segment carried forward to its conclusion, and every transition seamless. That the power-trio can still show traces of Cianide, Bolt Thrower, Prophecy of Doom, and even Archgoat – often, all in the same song – and make it meld together consistently and compellingly is no small feat. Add to that their characteristically GUTTED guitar & bass tone and Infernal Ordinance verily becomes its namesake. Perhaps best yet, the album doesn’t overstay its welcome: Act of Impalement get in and slaughter in a mere 29 minutes.

With world-eating mastering courtesy of Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios and stark cover artwork by Diablo Macabre, Act of Impalement have undeniably delivered their best record yet in Infernal Ordnance.

Hear for yourself with the brand-new track “Summoning the Final Conflagration” here:

OCEAN OF GRIEF set release date for new PERSONAL RECORDS album, reveal first video

On March 3rd, 2023 internationally, Personal Records is proud to present Ocean of Grief‘s highly anticipated second album, Pale Existence, on CD format.

Hailing from Greece, Ocean of Grief‘s melodic doom-death dates back to 2016 when their first musical endeavor, the Fortress of My Dark Self EP, saw the light of day. This EP carried a deep influence from the sound of bands like Slumber, Enshine, Draconian, On Thorns I Lay, and Saturnus. The gloomy but melancholic feeling of the EP was followed by the self-released single “After a Long Time” and, eventually, the band’s first full-length album, Nightfall’s Lament, which took a deeper dive into darkness and despair.

Now in 2023, Pale Existence comes to life, and this time, Ocean of Grief‘s approach of the music is even darker and more melodic, moving with both heaviness and grace, immensity and sensitivity. Indeed, the Greeks exhibit a mastery of songwriting here, working with the requisite light/shade so endemic to melodic doom-death, but with a fluidity that’s simply awe-inspiring: hooks, soundscapes, and ambiances take the listener from dark to light in no time. Further fleshing out the awe-inspiring landscape of Pale Existence is the album’s production, which is nothing short of superb and allows each detail to ring true but without sacrificing the raw emotion at the core of Ocean of Grief‘s colossal sound. In a word, this is spiritual.

Melodic doom-death doesn’t need to be more what it already is when it’s this powerful and poignant. Without hyperbole, in Pale Existence have Ocean of Grief delivered one of the subgenre’s best records of the year. Get ready to be imprisoned by two worlds!

In the meantime, see & hear the brand-new video for “Dale of Haunted Shades” here:

RIGOR SARDONICOUS set release date for long-awaited MEMENTO MORI comeback, reveal first track

In their endless quest to push and support current underground acts that deliver the goods unaware of trends and hypes, on January 23rd, 2023, Memento Mori is proud to present Rigor Sardonicous‘ long-awaited seventh album, Praeparet Bellum.

True purveyors of aural torment, Rigor Sardonicous are one of the cultest bands of the American death metal underground. Formed in 1988, the long-standing duo of bassist Glenn Hampton and vocalist/guitarist Joseph Fogarazzo remain one of the darkest and creepiest bands calling “death metal” home. Aided by their ever-trustworthy drum-machine, Rigor Sardonicous are utterly lifeless and excruciatingly slow, almost daring the listener to find any “fun” in their all-devouring void of inertia. You could almost qualify their music(k) as doom-death, but not in the traditional sense; existing for as long as (and even longer) than aesthetic forebears like Unholy and Evoken, Rigor Sardonicous‘ slo-mo sizzle equally bears a future-primitive texture not unlike earliest Godflesh or especially the cult Skin Chamber.

And so it goes with Praeparet Bellum, the band’s first full-length recording in over a decade. Immediately and ruinously recognizable as Rigor Sardonicous, Praeparet Bellum thankfully features all the duo’s signature elements – crushing heaviness, beyond-guttural vocals, and the very slowest of songwriting movement – but devolves them to a frightening degree. Perhaps because of their eerie absence since 2012’s Memento Mori-released Ego Diligio Vos, Rigor Sardonicous sound more unique than ever on Praeparet Bellum: the subgenres of doom-death and funeral doom are definitely in full swing, but there’s little to nothing around as unremittingly EMPTY and HOPELESS as this. You don’t “listen” to this album, and you most definitely don’t “endure” it; its ominous corpulence is only experienced. Bleak? That’s simply too fun.

Here stands the End of all Ends. Be warned: you will NOT return from Rigor SardonicousPraeparet Bellum!

Begin not-returning with the brand-new track “Voluntatem Dei” here:

American blackened death metallers Appalling stream new album

Today, American blackened death metallers Appalling stream the entirety of their highly anticipated third album, Sacrilege. Set for international release on December 2nd via Personal Records, hear Appalling‘s Sacrilege in its entirety here:

Lurking in the depths of Richmond, Virginia and featuring members of Fire Faithful and U.S. Bastards, Appalling have patiently built a sturdy discography that’s both refreshing and timeless. Integrating both death metal and black metal, Appalling‘s sound is more than just bog-standard “blackened death metal” clogging up so many distro lists; honed during tours of the American East Coast and Midwest, their two full-lengths to date, 2017’s Secrets of the Adept in 2019’s Inverted Realm, incisively displayed the band’s songwriting acumen and deadly execution.

Now Appalling emerge with a record so heretical that God tried to burn down a van with them in it: appropriately enough, Sacrilege. On Sacrilege, Appalling explore topics of mental illness, spit on Christianity, and revel in Satanic sins of the flesh. Musically, the band have considerably stepped up the brutality whilst never forgetting the fiery hooks or hammering riffing – and of course, keeping everything blackened to a crisp. As such, Appalling are equally appealing to fans of 1349, Morbid Angel, Satyricon, and Vader – or simply, those into well-written and well-recorded extreme metal.

Life is ugly, full of sin and damnation. Revel in that reality with Appalling‘s Sacrilege.

Preorder info can be found HERE. Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

French death metal maniacs Sépulcre stream their new EP

Today, French death metal maniacs Sépulcre stream the entirety of their highly anticipated new EP, Cursed Ways of Sheol. Set for international release on November 25th via Invictus Productions, hear Sépulcre‘s Cursed Ways of Sheol in its entirety here:

In late 2020, Sépulcre emerged from the cobwebbed crypts of deepest, darkest Brittany with their debut demo, Ascent Through Morbid Transcendence, through Invictus. Yet another worthy addition to France’s currently thriving death metal scene Sépulcre eschewed the HM-2 worship of so many of their domestic contemporaries by diving deeper into the past and roaming wild ‘n’ free among the halls and corridors of the most ancient, all-caps DEATH METAL.

Now, the quartet run even wilder with Cursed Ways of Sheol. Sépulcre‘s first proper EP, Cursed Ways of Sheol evinces the same characteristics of its demo predecessor – haunting leads, berzerk battery, and scarred throat from the abyss – but more importantly also evinces stronger songwriting and absolutely pummeling production. Put simply, THIS is how a fucking DEATH METAL record should sound, and Sépulcre run riot with 24 more minutes of eldritch darkness and feral lawlessness. Plunge deeper into the EP and one will find boundless horror, spiraling in delirium from “Aethyr Emanations” into the 10-minute closing epic “Foul Divinity Enthronation.”

Still young and hungry, Sépulcre sate the darkest desires with Cursed Ways of Sheol: evil DEATH METAL dripping with the horror of an old mausoleum, haunted by the spectres of tortured souls!

Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

HIBERNUS MORTIS stream long-awaited BLOOD HARVEST comeback album – features GIGAN ex-member

Today, reanimated Florida death metallers Hibernus Mortis stream the entirety of their long-awaited comeback album, The Monoliths of Cursed Slumber. Set for international release on November 25th via Blood Harvest Records on CD and cassette tape formats – the vinyl version will follow next year – hear Hibernus MortisThe Monoliths of Cursed Slumber in its entirety here:

Formed in 1996 in south Florida, Hibernus Mortis were something of a cult fixture in the American death metal underground during the late ’90s. A demo and a live album spread their name across that underground, and their debut album, The Existing Realms of Perpetual Sorrow, finally arrived in 2002. An unreleased demo was recorded a year later, but sadly, the name Hibernus Mortis drifted into dust as lineup shuffles squandered the band’s momentum.

But, of course, DEATH metal is eternal (life is not!), and now Hibernus Mortis return from their graven slumber with a perfectly titled second album: The Monoliths of Cursed Slumber. With a revitalized lineup which features ex-Gigan guitarist Randy Piro alongside OG members Cesar Placeres (vocals, drums), Ralf Varela (guitar) and Yasser Morales (bass), Hibernus Mortis here create a gutsfucking whirlwind of authentically ’90s-vintage death metal. From downtuned gallop to cyclonic breakdown, from surge to slam, eerie dissonance to gutter-steeped doom, all pure ‘n’ proper bases are covered – and then brutally beaten down with cold, cruel precision. It’d be simple to say that The Monoliths of Cursed Slumber sounds like not a year has passed since the band’s original but….well, that’s pretty much the truth, and Hibernus Mortis swarm and crush with an intensity that belies their age.

To restate the obvious, death metal is ETERNAL, and so is Hibernus Mortis‘ muse. Awaken and enter The Monoliths of Cursed Slumber!

Preorder info can be found HERE. Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

Tracklisting for Hibernus Mortis’ The Monoliths of Cursed Slumber
1. Funebre:The Eternal Sleep (Intro)
2. Endless Dawns Of Somnambulant Exorcisms
