The cover artwork and track-list of ‘Finisterre’ can be found below.

1. Aufbruch (9:49)
2. Ein letzter Tanz (13:49)
3. Skepsis Part I (5:05)
4. Skepsis Part II (5:36)
5. Finisterre (11:13)
The musical puzzle that adds up to become DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT turns into something more complex – yet also clearer defined on the band’s fourth studio album, ‘Finisterre’. The original pieces are still in play: the aggressive German directness akin to ENDSTILLE and a penchant for brooding melancholy as embodied by IMPERIUM DEKADENZ. Spiralling psychedelic moments comparable to DEAFHEAVEN and WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM also find their place – as well as a knack for majestic melodies that shows parallels in Swedish black metal spearheaded by MARDUK and DARK FUNERAL.

Yet while DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT are clearly progressing along the lines laid out by their previous acclaimed effort, ‘Stellar’, the band has found a way to make these pieces fit more seamlessly. ‘Finisterre’ flows together into a coherent picture that stresses the Germans’ unique approach and sound. This album marks the point where DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT turn their various influences into a work entirely of their own expression despite never trying to cover up their roots. This impressive maturity has been reached through several stages.

Founded in 2009 by guitarist Nikita Kamprad and vocalist Tobias Jaschinsky, DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT garnered early attention with their self-released debut ‘Der Weg einer Freiheit’ (2009), which quickly sold out and was re-issued with new drum tracks a year later. Following the ‘Agonie’ EP (2011), their second album ‘Unstille’ (2012) already cored international acclaim. In the aftermath of this record, co-founding member Tobias left and main songwriter Nikita Kamprad took over his vocal duties.

The frontman was first heard on third full-length ‘Stellar’ (2015), which saw DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT gaining traction across the pond as well as expanding their European base. Having performed along such diverse acts as WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, NEAERA, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, AMENRA, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX, and DOWNFALL OF GAIA as well as playing prestigious festivals such as Graspop, Hellfest, Resurrection, Roadburn, Summer Breeze, and Wacken has honed the band’s songwriting skills to razor-sharp precision.

‘Finisterre’ clearly stands at the apex (for now) of the steep climb that DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT have taken. This German star is finally shining in full black.

BLACK/DEATH POWERHOUSE, HISS FROM THE MOAT, UNVEILS VIDEO FOR TITLE TRACK OFF NEW ALBUM “THE HARRIER”

December 14, 2018 – Los Angeles, CA – HISS FROM THE MOAT, the transcontinental black/death metal band founded by acclaimed drummer James Payne (Vital Remains, Hour of Penance), have unveiled a video for the title track of their sophomore album “The Harrier,” due out via M-Theory Audio on February 22, 2019

The song can also be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music and other digital platforms. In addition, the M-Theory webshop has launched the pre-order for “The Harrier,” which is available on CD and limited-edition moat-black vinyl (200 copies). Digital pre-orders via Bandcamp include an instant download of the title track.  “The song, ‘The Harrier,’ represents the identity of the album both for the instrumental part and the lyrics.

The instrumental part is composed by many dynamic parts that create crescendos that then explode into more opened and epic parts, which is also how we composed the album itself — powerful, but not only fast,” explains drummer James Payne. “The lyrics, instead, are composed from extracts of sacred and political texts (as it’s indicated from the inscription in brackets) that, isolated and used in a more direct way, express and show how violent and brutal these books are, and sums up a good part of what the album itself talks about.

The video is composed from the lyrics that are supported from some illustrations that represent what the lyrics are saying. We chose to do this as a reference to how the illustrations were used in the past, to explain to whoever couldn’t read, what was written in the sacred texts. We wanted to do the same thing here since, nowadays, almost everybody can read, but everyone have their own interpretation of whatever is written, instead, since we have a specific and clear message to deliver, we’ve used the images to kind of have the same role that they had in the past — to explain to whoever gets our message, the meaning of it, to avoid misinterpretations.”

“The Harrier” – which features cover artwork by Stefano Bonora – was recorded, mixed and mastered at Milan’s SPVN Studio with Stefano Orkid Santi, who produced the latest Cripple Bastards album and previously worked as live engineer for bands such as Origin, Suffocation and Cattle Decapitation.

The U.S.-based Payne formed HISS FROM THE MOAT with two Italian friends – bassist/vocalist Carlo Cremascoli and guitarist Giacomo Poli – when he was just 18 years old. In 2009, the group self-released their debut EP, “The Carved Flesh Message,” which they supported by performing alongside the likes of Psycroptic, Skeletonwitch and The Black Dahlia Murder.

Four years later, HISS FROM THE MOAT released their debut full-length, “Misanthropy,” via Lacerated Enemy/Nuclear Blast. The band’s intense use of both extremes of death and black metal produced an album that stood alongside the delivery of acts such as Behemoth, Belphegor and Rotting Christ.

Following the release of the album, HISS FROM THE MOAT embarked on an extensive tour across Russia, Europe and Asia, delivering aggressive and visually engaging performances backed by the blackened intensity of the band’s new material. During this period, Payne left the legendary death metal act Vital Remains – a group he joined following a two-year stint with Italian death metal powerhouse Hour of Penance – to focus full-time on HISS FROM THE MOAT, and the band extended from a three-piece to a quartet with the addition of Max Cirelli (guitar/vocals).

Over the past two years, the band has toured extensively worldwide while working between the U.S. and Italy to write “The Harrier.” Now, HISS FROM THE MOAT aim to unleash another sonic onslaught that captures the band’s range of death and black metal inspiration while creating a unique and intense presence in the world of extreme music.

Australian death metal mavericks Vile Apparition premiere new track

Today, Australian death metal mavericks Vile Apparition premiere the new track “Malevolent Aphantasia” . The track hails from the band’s striking debut album, Depravity Ordained, set for international release on January 21st, 2019 via Memento Mori for the CD version (the vinyl and cassette versions will follow later on Blood Harvest). Hear Vile Apparition‘s “Malevolent Aphantasia” in its entirety .

Oozing out of Melbourne, Vile Apparition is a new project of Oliver Ballantyne (drums) and Jamie Colic (guitar, bass, vocals), both ex-members of the mighty Sewercide that left shortly after the recording of that band’s debut album, Immortalized in Suffering, in order to pursue other endeavors. Vile Apparition‘s self-released debut four-song demo, Atrocious Captivity, was picked up for a cassette release in early 2018 on Transylvanian Tapes, just in time for the band to fill their live lineup for their first run of shows starting January 2018.

Alas, Atrocious Captivity was but a brief taste of the nastiness to come, now in the form of Vile Apparition‘s full-length debut, Depravity Ordained. No lies in that title: this is fetid ‘n’ filthy death metal that puts a premium on the BLUDGEON! Old-school as it comes, of course, Vile Apparition‘s no-frills approach hearkens to the likes of Morpheus Descends, Ripping Corpse, and Deteriorot as well as the early works of Suffocation, Deeds of Flesh, and Cryptopsy. An astounding exhibition of ridiculous, malignant heaviness that’ll drill a hole in your skull and blow your brain cells to smithereens, the album will also include the preceding demo as bonus tracks.

With suitably classic cover art courtesy of Chaostouched and mastering by Dan Lowndes at Resonance Sound Studio, Vile Apparition bring you blunt-force trauma with Depravity Ordained! Get blunted again with the new track “Malevolent Aphantasia” exclusively HERE

Dutch Black Metal Collective NUSQUAMA Announce Debut LP Horizon Ontheemt + Announced For Roadburn 2019

Sometime in September 2018, five individuals known for their work in some of the finest Dutch black metal acts around, entered a XIX century coach house to record the debut album of their newest endeavour, NUSQUAMA. The resulting six songs form Horizon Ontheemt, which shall be performed in its entirety at Roadburn.

Featuring members of Laster, Fluisteraars and Turia, it stands to reason to expect black metal boasting elements from the three bands mentioned and that is certainly true with regards to form and quality.

There’s a melancholic – sometimes almost resigned – feeling ebbing and flowing throughout the songs, befitting of the story behind the NUSQUAMA name. The word is Latin for “nowhere,” but, more importantly, it was the word used by Thomas Moore to describe both the necessity of a hopeful alternative, as well as its impossibility. The story goes that it was how he referred to what would become of Utopia.

For a while now that it feels that something special is happening within the peculiar, non-unified confines of Dutch black metal. Come witness the beginning of one of this history’s chapters first-hand at Roadburn 2019 on Sunday, April 14.
Also performing at the festival next year are Eisenwald labelmates Turia, whose conceptual split with Fluisteraars, De Oord, is available now at this location and streaming in full here

1. De Aarde Dorst
2. Wrevel
3. Vuurslag
4. Eufrozyne
5. Ontheemd
6. Met Gif Doordrenkt

Misery Index release first new track of upcoming album ‘Rituals of Power’

Death Metal extremists MISERY INDEX are now premiering the very first track taken from their upcoming album ‘Rituals of Power’. The new offering is slated for release on March 08th, 2019 via Season of Mist. The song ”New Salem” is now streaming

MISERY INDEX comment on the track: “New Salem sums up perfectly the lyrical vitriol and musical dynamics featured across “Rituals of Power”. We wanted to introduce the album, not just with a straight-ahead ripping tune, but with a smack to the face; it’s a wake up call for any concerned citizen and a code red for civilization. Ugly times call for stark and uncomfortable statements, and New Salem castigates the faults and ineptitude’s of our broken media system and the Crucible-esque, witch-hunt culture it fuels.”
The artwork, which is created by Raphael Gabrio, and track details of ‘Rituals of Power’ can be viewed below.
Track-list
1. Universal Untruths (2:35)
2. Decline and Fall (4:36)
3. The Choir Invisible (4:26)
4. New Salem (3:24)
5. Hammering the Nails (3:46)
6. Rituals of Power (5:20)
7. They Always Come Back (5:08)
8. I Disavow (4:21)
9. Naysayer (2:26)
The band comment on the album: “‘Rituals of Power’ is a disavowal and warning against the consequences of our so-called ‘post-truth’ age. Each of the 9 songs revolves loosely around this theme, yet each track also stands very much on its own. As an album however, they are all brought to life as one ‘reanimated’ monster; it’s roughly 35 minutes of unhinged, yet cohesive, riff-driven aural ballistics. We were pissed off and on fire during both the writing and recording, and we think it shows in spades. We set out to write the best album we could, based on what we would want to hear first as fans of this music, and we could not be happier.”
MISERY INDEX have previously announced new European dates together with WORMROT and TRUTH CORRODED in the spring of 2019. The ‘Rituals of Power: Phase 1’ tour sees the band traveling through eight countries with a final curtain at the Turock in Essen (DE). A full list of confirmed shows can be found below. MISERY INDEX

MISERY INDEX return furiously with their brand new album, ‘Rituals of Power’! With their sixth full-length, the American icons of hard hitting brutality display the strength of maturity grown out of the experience gained as a relentless touring machine. The general trend of their continuous evolution to incorporate less core elements and move towards classic death metal finds a new high water mark.

When their debut EP ‘Overthrow’ was recorded in 2001 by vocalist and bassist Jason Netherton (ex-DYING FETUS) together with (then) guitarist and vocalist Mike Harrison and drummer Kevin Talley (ex-DYING FETUS), MISERY INDEX immediately charted a course to explore and push the limits of Death Metal and Grindcore, drawing influence from bands like MORBID ANGEL, NAPALM DEATH, TERRORIZER, BOLT THROWER and ENTOMBED. The erstwhile project shifted to a full time band when guitarist Sparky Voyles (ex-DYING FETUS) joined.

In 2003, MISERY INDEX unleashed their first full-length ‘Retaliate’, to exceptional reviews and followed by numerous support tours and festivals in Europe and North America. After several line-up changes, second album ‘Discordia’ was released in 2006 with even more touring in its wake. Their third full-length, ‘Traitors’ (2008) reaped raving reactions from both critics and fans and saw the band on the road again until 2009. Then MISERY INDEX dropped ‘Heirs to Thievery’ (2010) like a bomb on the Death Metal masses, shattering all expectations. The album was both a commercial and critical success, elevating the band to headlining slots. During that year, long time guitarist Sparky Voyles was replaced by Darin Morris.

A string of shows and festivals around the globe followed and on the Munich date of ‘Full of Hate Tour’ alongside CANNIBAL CORPSE, BEHEMOTH and LEGION OF THE DAMNED, the band recorded their first live album. Released early 2013, ‘Live in Munich’ perfectly epitomized the rawness and ferocity that MISERY INDEX elevated onto a new level with their fifth full length “The Killing Gods” in 2014.

Now with “Rituals of Power”, revolving around the concept of “truth”, MISERY INDEX are back with nine crushing tracks which tackle how ‘truth’ has been constructed and molded throughout history as a means to uphold power, regimes and ideologies. Brace, hold tight and run for cover, the wrath of MISERY INDEX is upon us and they are more furious than they’ve ever been.

Mexican death metal cult Ravenous Death premiere the new track Evil Dementia

Today, Mexican death metal cult Ravenous Death premiere the new track “Evil Dementia (The Voices of the Nobodies) . The track hails from the band’s striking debut album, Chapters of an Evil Transition, set for international release on January 21st, 2019 via Memento Mori. Hear Ravenous Death‘s “Evil Dementia (The Voices of the Nobodies)” in its entirety here:

Hailing from the vast death metal hotbed of Mexico, Ravenous Death feature current members of such other bands as Remains, Demonic Manifestation, and Death’s Forsaken. The band’s embryo was brought forth in 2016 during the recording of Remains’ third album in Mexico City, when vocalist/guitar player Miguel Angel and drummer Esteban Salcedo toyed with the idea of creating a death metal band influenced by Vomitory, Torture Division, and the likes. Later on, both musicians shared their vision with lead guitarist Enrique Fray, and the three of them agreed to push the idea forward and carry it out as a side-project due to the commitments they all had with their main bands. Soon after, Enrique and Miguel Angel began writing songs for the newborn abomination, and the three members decided to name the band after a Vomitory song titled “The Ravenous Dead.”

Fast forward to October 2016: the recording of Ravenous Death‘s debut demo/EP, Ominous Deathcult, is finalized (although not released as a Bandcamp download until March 2017), including five songs chock full of rotting maliciousness that show great poise in combining blasting brutality, crushing heaviness, somber ambience, and fierce intensity, with the lyrical themes revolving about death, occultism, blasphemy, and other classic topics of the olden Metal of Death. On May 13th, 2017, the band make their first live performance in the city of Guadalajara. For this occasion two new members were recruited – namely, bass player Alejandro Mendez and guitarist Diego Gomez – leaving Miguel Angel on vocal duties alone. After the excellent crowd response, both Alejandro and Diego join the band as official members.

Emboldened by this patient momentum, at last arrives Ravenous Death‘s full-length debut, aptly titled Chapters of an Evil Transition. Indeed displaying the band’s transition into an evil death metal juggernaut, the album absolutely bleeds the molten-yet-mildewed essence of ’90s Metal of Death. Fucking fashion and trends and especially fickle tastes, Chapters of an Evil Transition is a gutsfucking time-warp to the days when death metal was supposedly “dead,” lost in favor of black metal or power metal or (worse) ill-fated sellout fantasies. In this landscape did many a raw ‘n’ righteous mini-classic get birthed, and suitably do Ravenous Death continue the proud legacy of Vomitory and Mexican forebears Shub Niggurath, but also especially Sadistic Intent, Seance, old Grave, ’90s Immolation, ’90s Vader, and Finland’s Demigod. No more but definitely no less, this is DEATH METAL by and for death metal MANIACS: no bullshit, and no sellout!

Completed by stark artwork courtesy of Mörtuus and mastering by the esteemed Javier Felez at Moontower Studios, allow Ravenous Death to read you Chapters of an Evil Transition! Continue reading with the new track “Evil Dementia (The Voices of the Nobodies)”  HERE

DØDSFALL set release date for new OSMOSE album, reveal first track

DØDSFALL set release date for new OSMOSE album, reveal first track

Today, Osmose Productions sets January 25th, 2019 as the international release date for Dødsfall‘s highly anticipated fifth album, Døden Skal Ikke Vente, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

After four years of silence, black metal force Dødsfall returns with their long-awaited fifth album, entitled Døden Skal Ikke Vente, which contains 10 new tracks of pure hate and anger in its best form. Dødsfall worked this time with producer Tore Stjerna (Mayhem, Watain, Behexen, Funeral Mist) at the renowned Necromorbus Studio in Stockholm, Sweden; the album was also produced in co-operation with the mastermind IS. As for the crushing dark album artwork, the group linked up with the artist Pazuzuh, who previously worked with the band on the artwork of their album Djevelens Evangelie from 2013.

The new album is the result of a huge wave of inspiration that grew up like a snowball after the release of Kaosmakt in early 2015 that ended up in Døden Skal Ikke Vente, which presents a fresh and creative album holding on to their roots and the sound that was established from the very beginning on the band’s career. It can be described as a successful combination of past and present with new elements and different sources of inspiration. The album is epic, majestic, and furious with this medieval touch inspired from the cold lands of the north – black, dark and powerful. This is also the debut of drummer TELAL, who has been playing also with acts like Troll, Isvind, and Endezzma to name a few.

For the first time in the band’s career, they have recorded a video clip of one of their songs called “Grå Himlar” in co-operation with Dorian Productions. Expect nothing but one of the best Dødsfall releases to date, full of majestic passages that will make the album a classic!

The video for “Grå Himlar” shall be revealed shortly. In the meantime, hear the new track “Ondskapelse”

DETH CRUX Los Angeles Deathrock – Debut LP Announcement

DETH CRUX (Los Angeles Deathrock) – Debut LP Announcement + Promo

Sentient Ruin in collaboration with Agipunk/Legion of the Dead and Aural Music is happy to present you with Mutant Flesh – the incredible debut LP  by Los Angeles-based Deathrock shapeshifters DETH CRUX.

After debuting in 2015 with their staggering first EP Pears of Anguish, Los Angeles deathrock night stalkers Deth Crux (who feature in their ranks members of US doom legends Buried at Sea and of L.A. black/death heathens Lighting Swords of Death) return with their long awaited debut album – the haunting and chameleonic Mutant Flesh, forty minutes of shapeshifting and deviant horror punk/gothic rock soaked in neon, blood, sex, and perversion.

Shrouded in an aura both erotic and extraterrestrial, Mutant Flesh is a modern post-punk juggernaut in which Deth Crux have distilled the most tumultuous, unclean, and eclectic aspects of their home town Los Angeles to create a dark punk opera of unparalleled seductiveness and darkness. Theirs is not the Los Angeles we all know. Instead it is a city they have transformed and reimagined through sound with its most dysfunctional and cinematic traits exaggerated and pushed to the forefront, haunted by neon-hungry ghosts and mutated subhuman creatures hiding behind black sunglasses among the surface population, where strange flesh is sold to fulfill unearthly desires. In Mutant Flesh Deth Crux channel the grandiose majesty and gloom of iconic UK goth bands like Bauhaus, Fields of the Nephilim, and Sister of Mercy, with the spooky and feral irreverence of Christian Death, projecting it all against their own personal audio-visual backdrop of decaying urban madness and sinister body horror to yield something truly both unseen and marvelously unsettling and seductive.

Recorded and mixed by famed sound designer Sanford Parker (Leviathan, Wovenhand, Nachtmystium, Voivod etc.) in 2017 at Big Band Sound in Los Angeles, Mutant Flesh features contributions also by saxophone legend Bruce Lamont (Yakuza, Corrections House) and is already slated to become a classic dark goth/horror punk opera of our times.

Mutant Flesh has been featured abundantly leading up to its release with tracks premiered by Indy Metal Vault, Last Rites, and No Clean Singing, and with the full album finally premiered in full this week by CVLT Nation.

Mutant Flesh was released on December 7 2018 on tape and vinyl in the US by Sentient Ruin, on vinyl in the EU by legendary Italian crust punk label Agipunk‘s goth subsidiary Legion of the Dead, and on CD by Italian dark metal label Aural Music.

Finnish black metal duo Disciples of the Void stream PRIMITIVE REACTION debut album

Today, second-wave revivalists Disciples of the Void stream the entirety of striking debut album, fittingly titled Disciples of the Void. Set for international release on December 7th via Primitive Reaction, hear Disciples of the Void’s self-titled debut album in its entirety exclusively HERE. While the pioneers of second-wave black metal went expanding musical approaches from pure black metal to different variations of metal music, Finnish black metal duo Disciples of the Void wanted to create black metal the way it was back in the mid ’90s. “The idea behind this project is not to come up with something new and different, but instead perform BM the way it was at first when we discovered it and the way it was at its best,” says the band.In order to enter the black metal scene in the purest way possible, Disciples of the Void’s founding members have chosen to remain nameless, thus leaving the image as a secondary thing and putting the music as their top priority. Anonymity also supports their lyrical themes, which deal with nihilism, death, and emptiness.Despite the anonymity, the session drums on Disciples of the Void were played by Trish Kolsvart – known from Urarv, Elände, and as a live member for Craft and Necrodelirium to name a few. Together, Disciples of the Void whip forth a stargazing fury that literally sounds frozen in the mid ’90s, before the scene started worrying whether a black metal band was too “symphonic” and such things. Indeed does Disciples of the Void exhibit something of a symphonic aspect, but again one that is rooted in the rich traditionalism of second-wave black metal.
