Gaahls WYRD, fronted by legendary black metal vocalist, frontman, artist and composer Gaahl, will release their highly anticipated debut album ‘GastiR – Ghosts invited’, via Season of Mist on May 31st.

Gaahl is known as one of Norway’s most talked about and respected extreme metal musicians. His work with TRELLDOM, GORGOROTH, WARDRUNA and GOD SEED has been widely regarded as some of the best the black metal scene has had to offer.

Under the moniker Gaahls WYRD, the vocalist assembled some of Norway’s finest metal musicians. The band consist of Ole Walaunet (The Batallion, God Seed, Grimfist), Frode Kilvik (Krakow, Aeternus) and Kevin Kvåle (Horizon Ablaze). This highly qualified bunch has recently toured a finely selected, career spanning repertoire from Gaahl’s time in TRELLDOM, GORGOROTH and GOD SEED to great acclaim.

Having recorded their first full length in Solslottet Studios in Norway with Iver Sandøy (ENSLAVED) last year, the musicians are now ready to bestow their own unique take on extreme metal upon the masses.

Those who are expecting a blasting black metal offering are in for something unexpected. Even though ‘GastiR – Ghosts invited’ is firmly rooted in extreme metal, Gaahl’s vocal delivery on this record is something out of the ordinary and the first class riffing in combination with the excellent musicianship is bound to take you places you’ve never been before.

Drudkh stream the track “Autumn in Sepia” of new compilation

Previously, this set of songs was only available on limited vinyl, but will now be released on digipak and cassette.
The cover artwork and tracklist of the compilation have also been revealed and can be viewed below.
Track-list
1. Golden Horse (08:45)
2. Fiery Serpent (08:45)
3. His Twenty-Fourth Spring (09:01)
4. Autumn In Sepia (08:26)
5. All Shades Of Silence (12:54)
6. The Night Walks Towards Her Throne (08:46)
Total: 0:56:37

Ukrainian black metal formation DRUDKH deliver black metal poetry at its finest. Especially their latest albums and splits draw on 20th century Ukrainian literature. Previously only released on split EP’s with HADES ALMIGHTY, GRIFT and PAYSAGE D’HIVER, ‘A Few Lines in Archaic Ukrainian’, bundles a collection of often neglected tracks, that are a must hear for any fan of Sayenko’s work.

DRUDKH are without a doubt influential and unique in the black metal scene. True to the values of this extreme genre, the enigmatic Ukrainians refuse to follow the rulebook and provide no answers, no statements, no shows. The sound of DRUDKH is equally based on a solid foundation consisting of the by now traditional Nordic variant of this style as on the band’s highly distinct individual “Slavonic” interpretation of it.

Released in June 2016 the split with Norwegian black metal forces HADES ALMIGHTY (SUA069), ‘One Who Talks With The Fog / Pyre Era, Black!’ contains some of the finest songs of the band, namely “Golden Horse and “Fiery Serpent”. Founder Roman Sayenko takes lyrical inspiration from the poetry of Ukrainian writer Volodymyr Svidzins’kyi (1885-1941), who was murdered by the Soviets after years of censorship and repression.

Following a cooperation with acclaimed Swedish underground one-man project GRIFT, DRUDKH release ‘Betrayed By The Sun / Hägringar’ in September 2016. The lyrics for “His Twenty-Fourth Spring” were penned by Bohdan-Ihor Antonych (1909–1937), who died at the early age of 28 years from an infection of the appendix. The family of Mike Johansen (1895–1937) was of German and Lithuanian decent and arrived in DRUDKH‘s hometown Karkhiv at the end of the 19th century. His words were used in the song “Autumn in Sepia”. Johansen also suffered a premature death; as he was brutally murdered by the Soviets in a Kiev prison under a fabricated accusation of conspiracy.

The two tracks “His Twenty-Fourth Spring” and “Autumn in Sepia” come in classic DRUDKH style, which mainly consists out of an atmospheric amalgamation of bleak rawness with epic melodies, but always has a richness of small details derived from any suitable musical genre.

The final split EP ‘Somewhere Sadness Wanders / Schnee (IV)’ with Swiss atmospheric black metal project PAYSAGE D’HIVER appeared in August 2017. “All Shades Of Silence” derives from the writings of Yevhen Pluzhnyk (1898-1936), who died in a Stalinist gulag. His contemporary Maik Yohansen (1895-1937), who penned the words in “The Night Walks Towards Her Throne” shared a similar fate by being murdered with the guns of a Soviet firing squad.

Unearthing these poems and bringing them back to life, the tracks on this compilation perfectly combine harshness, epic melodies and a touch of folklore, transforming them into black metal masterpieces.

Misery Index release new track ‘The Choir Invisible’

Death Metal extremists MISERY INDEX are now premiering the third track taken from their upcoming album ‘Rituals of Power’. The new offering is slated for release on March 08th, 2019 via Season of Mist. ‘The Choir Invisible’ is now streaming in the form of a lyric video
On the track, MISERY INDEX comment: “‘The Choir Invisible’ is a euphemism for the dead, or those who have passed on. In the context of this song, it is an anthem of the dispossessed and the hopeless. Many across the world exist in an ‘in-between’ state that is often ignored and/or washed over because they lack the power and voice to plead their case as human beings. The song takes up this theme and tells it from the somber view of those who risk their lives, board ships and cross oceans in order to find a better life.”
Besides the brand new lyric video, drummer Adam Jarvis has also released a brand new drum play-through from the previous released track ‘Rituals of Power’
MISERY INDEX previously announced European and Japanese tour dates in the spring of 2019. A full list of confirmed shows can be found below.

2. Decline and Fall (4:36)
3. The Choir Invisible (4:26)
4. New Salem (3:24)
5. Hammering the Nails (3:46)
6. Rituals of Power (5:20)
7. They Always Come Back (5:08)
8. I Disavow (4:21)
9. Naysayer (2:26)

The band comment on the album: “‘Rituals of Power’ is a disavowal and warning against the consequences of our so-called ‘post-truth’ age. Each of the 9 songs revolves loosely around this theme, yet each track also stands very much on its own. As an album however, they are all brought to life as one ‘reanimated’ monster; it’s roughly 35 minutes of unhinged, yet cohesive, riff-driven aural ballistics. We were pissed off and on fire during both the writing and recording, and we think it shows in spades. We set out to write the best album we could, based on what we would want to hear first as fans of this music, and we could not be happier.”
MISERY INDEX return furiously with their brand new album, ‘Rituals of Power’! With their sixth full-length, the American icons of hard hitting brutality display the strength of maturity grown out of the experience gained as a relentless touring machine. The general trend of their continuous evolution to incorporate less core elements and move towards classic death metal finds a new high water mark.

When their debut EP ‘Overthrow’ was recorded in 2001 by vocalist and bassist Jason Netherton (ex-DYING FETUS) together with (then) guitarist and vocalist Mike Harrison and drummer Kevin Talley (ex-DYING FETUS), MISERY INDEX immediately charted a course to explore and push the limits of Death Metal and Grindcore, drawing influence from bands like MORBID ANGEL, NAPALM DEATH, TERRORIZER, BOLT THROWER and ENTOMBED. The erstwhile project shifted to a full time band when guitarist Sparky Voyles (ex-DYING FETUS) joined.

In 2003, MISERY INDEX unleashed their first full-length ‘Retaliate’, to exceptional reviews and followed by numerous support tours and festivals in Europe and North America. After several line-up changes, second album ‘Discordia’ was released in 2006 with even more touring in its wake. Their third full-length, ‘Traitors’ (2008) reaped raving reactions from both critics and fans and saw the band on the road again until 2009. Then MISERY INDEX dropped ‘Heirs to Thievery’ (2010) like a bomb on the Death Metal masses, shattering all expectations. The album was both a commercial and critical success, elevating the band to headlining slots. During that year, long time guitarist Sparky Voyles was replaced by Darin Morris.

A string of shows and festivals around the globe followed and on the Munich date of ‘Full of Hate Tour’ alongside CANNIBAL CORPSE, BEHEMOTH and LEGION OF THE DAMNED, the band recorded their first live album. Released early 2013, ‘Live in Munich’ perfectly epitomized the rawness and ferocity that MISERY INDEX elevated onto a new level with their fifth full length “The Killing Gods” in 2014.

Now with “Rituals of Power”, revolving around the concept of “truth”, MISERY INDEX are back with nine crushing tracks which tackle how ‘truth’ has been constructed and molded throughout history as a means to uphold power, regimes and ideologies. Brace, hold tight and run for cover, the wrath of MISERY INDEX is upon us and they are more furious than they’ve ever been.

Italy’s TOTALITARIAN set release date for new BARREN VOID album, reveal first track

Today, Barren Void Records – with official distribution by Lavadome Productions – sets April 12th as the international release date for the highly anticipated second album of Italy’s Totalitarian, Bloodlands.

Following their 2017 debut, Italy’s Totalitarian returns with a malicious new record entitled Bloodlands, which embarks on a soul-corrupting journey through unprecedented violence and the most hideous deeds the so-called humankind has ever been able to commit itself to.

Bloodlands will drag you through the ruins of Warsaw, across the fields of Treblinka, into the marshes of Belarus, or to the death pits of Babi Yar. Sense it: the terror, the darkness without glare, when despair and anguish served just as an overture to a deadly end. Grasp it: the paralyzing touch of immaculate fear, the danger which can’t be seen, yet its menacing presence would define eternity with the taste of ashes and blood left behind.

Musically, Bloodlands represents a relentless black metal tour de force, especially when compared to the debut album De Arte Tragoediae Divinae from 2017. As cliché as it may sound, the evil is one, but its faces are many – that’s the truth. Bear in mind the bleakness and the everpresent nihilism will always be maintained in anything Totalitarian will ever create.

Bloodlands follows the seething poison of humiliation and annihilation encrypted in the collective consciousness of man forever. The wounds of humanity are bleeding in the 6 Gospels of Extermination.

The first of those 6 Gospels can be heard with the new track “1933” here:

AORATOS announce their debut album, a masterpiece of haunting malefic Black Metal

The newest crepuscular offering from Naas Alcameth (AKHLYS, NIGHTBRINGER), “Gods Without Name” is the first descent into the twisted depths of a fresh creative entity, AORATOS, a “reflection of the eidola and egregore arisen from the liminal thresholds”.

Expanding far beyond the themes and sounds within AKHLYS, “Gods Without Name” probes ever further into the darkness found beyond the boundaries of the profane and waking world of man. A maelstrom of mesmerizing and nightmarish tremolo riffs, relentless drumming, and the ever-tortured howls of Naas Alcameth permeates this musical abyss, a piercing counterpoint to the undulating drone and dark ambient soundscapes found within.

Cold atmospheres and malevolent whispers of ecstatic dread bookend these horrific hymnals to “forbidden plots, barren fields, and haunted abodes”. Terrifying and occult, this is darkness given musical form in haunting, malefic Black Metal.

TELEPORT to have EP reissued by EDGED CIRCLE, prepare debut album for the label

Today, Edged Circle Productions sets April 5th as the international release date for Teleport‘s The Expansion on CD format. Originally released on cassette tape during the autumn of 2018 but selling out extremely quickly, The Expansion so impressed Edged Circle that the label simply HAD to release the record on a wider scale – and later this year, will release Teleport‘s highly anticipated debut album!

One of the most singular bands orbiting the death metal underground in the past decade, Teleport formed in 2010 in Ljubljana, Slovenia and promptly set course for a prodigious schedule of self-released demos, each one perfecting their slithering, shapeshifting sound. Undoubtedly inspired by Gorguts, Voivod, and Australia’s Stargazer and yet finding contemporaries in Blood Incantation and Sacriphyx, Teleport truly hit their stride with last year’s The Expansion. As aptly titled as the band’s moniker, The Expansion weaves a winding, oft-bewildering path across its three-track/21-minute runtime. Sulfurous to the very end, one could pin tags like “prog” or “tech” or simply “that’s crazy, man!” onto Teleport‘s style of death metal, but within their attacking angularity exist actual hooks – malformed and mesmerizing, of course, but HOOKS to hold onto as you sink deeper into their maelstrom…

And now, under the aegis of Edged Circle, that maelstrom will open wider and devour more listeners whole with Teleport‘s imminent debut album for the label. In the meantime, prepare for The Expansion and get your mind blown!

A full HD stream of The Expansion can be heard here:

After some years of absence from the black metal scene, guitarist Rune Eriksen (AURA NOIR, EARTH ELECTRIC, ex-MAYHEM), decides to venture back into the aural landscapes he’s widely known for. Having played with one of Norway’s leading extreme metal bands for years, Eriksen seeks to coalesce classic, cold Scandinavian riffing with an air of darkness and the signature force of death metal.

Combining strengths, Eriksen brings in veterans of the extreme, David Vincent of legendary death metal formation MORBID ANGEL, as well as acclaimed drummer Flo Mounier from CRYPTOPSY. The three-piece have completed the work on their debut album, which is slated for release early 2019 via Season of Mist. The new death metal powerhouse will be known under the moniker of VLTIMAS.

The foundation for VLTIMAS was laid when Rune, after collecting a handful of riffs, presented drummer Flo Mounier with the idea of forming a band together. For the two musicians, having composed and recorded numerous songs together in the past, the musical chemistry was already tried and tested. However, one thing was still missing. This extraordinary musical project needed an extraordinary voice and Eriksen got in touch with David Vincent, with whom he had been in contact for years, to finalize the line-up.

Vincent had just exited Morbid Angel and was ready for a new chapter in his long spanning career. Everything fell into place, and VLTIMAS came into being.

During the Noize Factory sessions (Georgetown, USA), the musicians started writing a substantial amount of music. The sessions proved to be a fruitful endeavor and the first ideas and song skeletons were later fleshed out by Rune at his home studio in Portugal, then finalized when Flo Mounier and Eriksen returned to Texas, in order to put the final touches to the material at David’s home studio. In a more controlled surrounding the songs started to unveil themselves and the studio was booked.

The band entered Orgone Studios in Woburn, England in May 2018 with producer Jaime Gomez Arellano. Here, the three-piece recorded nine crushing tracks that will appear on the full-length debut album.

The new record offers a vast array of influences, but most notably the distinguished symbioses of these three respected and talented musicians. A dark and sinister ambiance meets a majestic and a commanding death metal energy.
