FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE RETURNS WITH 5TH ALBUM, ‘VELENO,’ ON MAY 24TH

Italian orchestral-death metal and renaissance revivalists FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE will make their triumphant return this year with the release of their 5th studio album, VELENO, on MAY 24TH with NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS.

Today, the band has unveiled the record’s debut single, “SUGAR,” via a music video, the album artwork and tracklisting. Fans can also pre-order the album now at www.nuclearblast.com/fleshgodapocalypse-veleno.

WATCH THE VIDEO FOR “SUGAR”:

Francesco Paoli on working with director Giovanni Bucci:   “I met Giovanni Bucci a couple of years ago, while collaborating on his own band ODDKO. We soon became good friends, so we started talking about having him as director for Fleshgod’s new videos. He is a true visionary, with amazing directing and production skills. He’s been making music videos for bands like Korn, and he also has a shining career in the movie industry. We all agreed that he would’ve been the key to a huge step forward for us, visually and artistically, especially on a video like this, which was also extremely complex to produce and shoot. The result is on your screen now, and it’s better than any description. Just hit the play button and enjoy.”

Italian for venom, VELENO marks FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE’s first record in 3 years, since the release of their critically acclaimed record King (2016). The “metal part” of VELENO was recorded in Rome, Italy at Bloom Recording Studio and Kick Studio with long-standing collaborator Marco Mastrobuono, while the “orchestral part”—the ensembles—were tracked at Musica Teclas Studio in Perugia. Fleshgod Apocalypse then took the effort over to Grammy-nominated Jacob Hansen (VOLBEAT, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, EPICA) at Hansen Studios in Denmark for mixing and mastering. The entire production of VELENO took, according to Paoli, about three months.

VELENO Tracklisting:

  1. Fury
  2. Carnivorous Lamb
  3. Sugar
  4. The Praying Mantis’ Strategy
  5. Monnalisa
  6. Worship and Forget
  7. Absinthe
  8. Pissing On The Score
  9. The Day We’ll Be Gone
  10. Embrace The Oblivion
  11. Veleno

Artwork for the album was created by Travis Smith (AVENGED SEVENFOLD, OPETH, KATATONIA).   Francesco Paoli on VELENO:   “Today is the day. A first taste of our new album, VELENO, is finally available for you all. No words can describe how excited we are and how long we waited for this moment. What you see is the harvest of three years of sweat, revolutions, intense emotions and extreme challenges. We proved ourselves to be stronger than ever, despising compromises, setting the bar higher no matter what. The album is massive to say the least. Every song is a unique piece, literally alive and breathing. Can’t wait for you guys to hear the rest…”

VOËMMR set release date for new HARVEST OF DEATH album

Today, Harvest of Death sets April 20th as the international release date for Voëmmr‘s highly anticipated second album, O ovnh intot adr mordrb, on vinyl LP and cassette tape formats.

A so-far-shadowy entity, Voëmmr hail from the currently-hot Portuguese raw black metal scene. Specifically, the band is a part of the clandestine Aldebaran Circle, which includes Ordem Satânica, Trono Além Morte, and Occelenbriig. Like those contemporaries, Voëmmr eschew any sort of social-media presence – or any internet presence at all, for that matter – preferring instead to work on their bewitching black metal conjurations far away from any sort of ego-enhancing public awareness; their means and methods are, rather, rooted in the ancient ways of the ’90s, like their massively prolific (and massively fuck-off) forebears in the French Black Legions.

Continuing the compelling uncomfort of their Sombr Moebrd demo from 2018, this inscrutable and stratifying cult continue their assured, almost effortless plunge into the abyss with a brand-new 44-minute recording. If Voëmmr‘s alternately celebrated/feared debut album, 2017’s Nox Maledictvs, was the sound of the cult crawling through the shadows for the first time – and in the process, locating shimmeringly ugly magickal frequencies, sick and rotten and malnourished yet somehow strangely beautiful in their malodorous malaise – then O ovnh intot adr mordrb sounds like that cult striding boldly beyond the shadows. That signature sound, as lasciviously laid out on Nox Maledictvs, is here more urgent, more manic, more hysteric, the ritualism of yore reigned into an altogether more focused maw of desolation and dread: pounding, persistent, passionate. As ever, their usage of unnervingly insistent organ has developed into a perversely beautiful/eerie counterpoint to the ripped-raw black metal beneath – as above, so below – thus making Voëmmr‘s iteration of black metal all the more idiosyncratic. Furthering that idiosyncrasy is their continued usage of the strange, cryptic dialect created by legendary French forebears Belketre.

Enigmas either die or grow stronger. With O ovnh intot adr mordrb do Voëmmr prove the latter. The first show of strength can be found with the new track “Carpatr Tzaeb” here:
Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

HEILUNG comment on the meaning of the album title ‘Futha’: “The majority of full rune set inscriptions start with ‘Futha’, and is known to us as the first four letters in all runic alphabets. It is considered that our forefathers saw magic potential in engraving the full rune line, but there is also great significance in the beginnings. Science has no key for the meaning of only engraving the first couple of letters yet, but there is, of course, a surplus of theories. One of the theories we found inspiration in, is that ‘Futha’ holds the meaning of fertility and female gender. As ‘Ofnir’ focused on war and masculine notions, the great healing power of female wild strength is evoked in Futha. Those who have been present at a birth or have seen lionesses hunting know the spirit, and we welcome and embrace it in the sounds that were born during the creation of ‘Futha’.”

HEILUNG latest debut full-length, ‘Ofnir’ (2015) was recently re-released by Season of Mist. Cover artwork and album details of ‘Ofnir’ can be viewed below.
Track-list

1. Alfadhirhaiti (6:48)
2. Krigsgaldr (8:58)
3. Hakkerskaldyr (2:10)

7. Futhorck (10:45)
8. In Maidjan (12:32)
9. Afhomon (13:41)

Total playing time: 1:11:52
When HEILUNG self-released ‘Ofnir’ in 2015, the Danish band could hardly have anticipated the breakthrough success of their debut album. Spectacular live shows, strong critical acclaim, and a massive underground buzz added to the constantly high demand for this full-length are the reason why their new label Season of Mist does not hesitate to re-issue ‘Ofnir’ in several collector’s edition formats.

HEILUNG means “healing” in the German language and this also describes the core of the band’s sound. The listener is supposed to be left at ease and in a relaxed state after a magical musical journey that is at times turbulent.

HEILUNG reach far back in time to the Northern European iron age and Viking period to create their sound experience. The band utilises many means in their songs: from running water via human bones, reconstructed swords and shields up to ancient frame drums as well as bronze rings.

HEILUNG‘s lyrics contain original texts from rune stones, preserved spear shafts, amulets, and other ancient artefacts. Furthermore, the band uses poems, which either deal with historical events or are translations and interpretations of the original texts.

Any attempt to link the band with or bring their music into a modern political or religious context is pointless, since HEILUNG try to connect their listeners with a time before the coming of Christianity and modern political ideologies.

DEIPHAGO set release date for new HELLS HEADBANGERS album, reveal second track – also announce European tour dates

Today, Hells Headbangers sets April 30th – Walpurgisnacht – as the international release date for Deiphago‘s highly anticipated fifth album, I, The Devil, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats. The album precludes a full European tour to celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary (dates after the jump).

Deiphago are arguably the most violent band on the planet, as well as one of the most envelope-pushing. Over the course of four albums – 2006’s Satanik Eon, 2009’s Filipino Antichrist, 2012’s Satan Alpha Omega, and 2015’s Into the Eye of Satan, the latter three all released by Hells Headbangers – and with a history spanning 30 years, this power-trio have challenged the norms of black metal, death metal, even extreme metal in general, resulting in a catalog that’s unchallenged and untouchable. Quite simply, Deiphago are without peer, and I, The Devil underlines this fact with no uncertainty.

Always pushing themselves, Deiphago teamed up with producer Kurt Ballou (Converge) to record I, The Devil, with mastering handled by Brad Boatright (Audiosiege), and the legendary Joe Petago returns to do the album’s cover art. Featuring eight songs in 40 minutes, I, The Devil sees Deiphago taking their ever-singular “Experimental Hyper-speed Satanic Bestial Metal” down avenues both more violent and more angular. No other nowadays metal band sounds this extreme – extreme violence, extreme progressiveness, extreme EXTREMITY – and I, The Devil shall prove, once again, that Deiphago are truly in a league all their own. If the Colin Marston-produced predecessor Into the Eye of Satan displayed a band aiming for the most atonal and challenging ends of the black/death spectrum, then I, The Devil will prove that Deiphago have crossed their Rubicon – and they’ve left everyone behind, cowering in their conservatism.

Says founding vocalist/bassist V.666, “This album is a celebration of our 30 years of existence, a cultivation of all our experiences since the band started in 1989. We have worked hard on this album, and it is the best music we have ever released, filled with dark moods and reeking of destruction. We present to you the essence of pure black metal as it was meant to be like in the early ’90s, when bands didn’t sound the same. This is our magnum opus that will be revered right next to the groundbreaking black metal albums of the early ’90s.”

Continuing, V.666 promises, “This will surpass everything not just in the bestial black/death genre, but the whole black metal scene as a whole. This album stands on its own as diverse and unconventional, filled with monstrous dissonances and intolerable cacophony. It is perfecting the uncontrolled chaos. Kurt Ballou has done a great job as producer, engineer, and mixer, capturing our evil intensity. Normal people will not understand the music, as we have put such a high standard over all the typical trends of today. Beware the release of I, The Devil.”

No empty words here: I, The Devil is twisted, violent genius and avant-garde obliteration simultaneously. It is NOT for normcore metalheads, weekend warriors, or “diehards only” posers; it reverberates with the righteously unorthodox, those who dare to seek beyond the borders of the “sheep in wolf’s clothing” conservatism endemic to underground metal, or simply metal in general. There Deiphago stand, crushing those very borders, and any who would stand in their way. Behold I, The Devil and await the sweet kiss of utter annihilation

In the meantime, hear the new track “11:4:6” HERE

2. Quantum Death
3. Neuro-Satanic Circuit

BEWITCHER set release date for new SHADOW KINGDOM album

Today, Shadow Kingdom Records sets May 10th as the international release date for Bewitcher‘s highly anticipated second album, Under the Witching Cross, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats.

As presaged by their Too Fast for the Flames 7″ on Shadow Kingdom in early 2019, Bewitcher are leaner and especially meaner than ever! The power-trio built their name in the underground on the back of three cult demos and especially their self-titled debut album in 2016, and now arrives Under the Witching Cross to present the band in their crudest ‘n’ rudest form: Rough ‘n’ rowdy speed metal of a most classic ’80s aspect, with a touch of good, old-fashioned EVIL the way Venom and early Razor did it way back in the day.

In fact, one could say Bewitcher are a veritable time-machine of enviable, unbelievable proportions – except you look at the calendar and realize you’re living in the present! But Bewitcher don’t give a fuck, and proceed to pulverize you with POUNDING METAL, one anthem after another, on the eight-anthem/33-minute Under the Witching Cross. We can also mention Celtic Frost, early Sodom, Exciter, and even a touch of Dissection as ever-honorable influences here, so you know Bewitcher are the absolute Real Deal! But the band’s also highly recommended for maniacs of Midnight, BAT, Pounder, Chainbreaker, and Italy’s Barbarian.

Watch out, because the night’s about to get HOT when Bewitcher takes you Under the Witching Cross! Get hot with the previously revealed video for “Too Fast for the Flames” here:
Cover and tracklisting are as follows:
Tracklisting for Bewitcher’s Under the Witching Cross
1. Savage Lands of Satan
2. Hexenkrieg
3. Under the Witching Cross
4. Heathen Woman
5. Too Fast for the Flames
6. In the Sign of the Goat
7. Rome is on Fire
8. Frost Moon Ritual

Atmospheric black metal elite Ellende premiere new track

Today, atmospheric black metal elite Ellende premiere the new track “Der Blick wird leer”. The track hails from the band’s highly anticipated third album, Lebensnehmer, set for international release on March 29th via AOP Records. The album will be released on CD, vinyl LP, and boxset formats, with both the vinyl and boxset editions featuring an exclusive bonus track. Hear Ellende’s “Der Blick wird leer” in its entirety HERE.

Founded in 2011 by multi-instrumentalist L.G., Ellende has always strived for the melancholy, anger, and beauty that is buried in our mere existence and misanthropy. Deeply rooted in black metal, the project didn’t fear wisely selected instrumentation in order to achieve a unique atmosphere and songwriting style. This mainly includes strings, brass, and other classical instruments, as well as L.G. doing most of the studio work and all artwork and design himself. After the independent release of Rückzug in die Innerlichkeit by L.G. in 2012, Ellende became a live band with session musicians and three releases, and some successful European tours followed.

The attention for Ellende peaked with their second album, Todbringer, in 2017, which was hailed as one of the most outstanding atmospheric/post-black metal albums of the year by many critics and audiences, hitting nearly a half-million views on YouTube in a few months and successively selling out its initial physical pressing.

Patiently taking two years to perfect the songwriting, Ellende’s third full-length (and fifth release overall),
Lebensnehmer is now finished. Featuring live musician P.F. on drums like on previous records, Lebensnehmer vividly displays all the sturm und drang of the trademark Ellende sound, now more breathtaking than ever. Taking a more adventurous approach to dynamics as well as exhibiting a clarity of focus previously untouched, Lebensnehmer moves like a literal emotional rollercoaster – hitting the highest of highs, and especially the lowest of lows – spellbinding the listener at every skyscraping turn. As ever, the stirring melodicism of L.G. takes center stage, weaving emotive ecstasy even while a torrent of blastbeats from P.F. booms all around here. Elsewhere, suitably splendorous atmosphere is evoked through frequent stretched-out instrumental passages, allowing both drama and tension to wage war within the listener’s heart and head. And of course, only the most sterling production standards were sought by L.G, with recording & mixing at Audioriotrecordings Austria and mastering by Iguana Studios Germany.

As the mainman enthuses, “I am truly grateful how this record turned out. As the title already implies, Lebensnehmer – or ‘life taker,’ in English – has a very strong connotation coming about two years after its sister album Todbringer, which is ‘death bringer’ in English. Going through rough times, it fills me with a sense of well-being when another selection of music has been made into a full-length result of anger, melancholy, and beauty. Being surrounded by very gifted musicians and sound engineers, you can expect another milestone from Ellende.”

No truer words spoken. Ellende’s atmospheric black metal dominance continues with Lebensnehmer! The album’s release will be promptly followed by a five-date tour featuring AOP Records labelmates Firtan, Spiral Skies, and
Groza (dates after the jump).

MALAKHIM stream new IRON BONEHEAD mini-album

Today, fast-rising Swedish black metal cult Malakhim stream the entirety of their highly anticipated new mini-album, II. Set for international release on March 8th via Iron Bonehead Productions, hear Malakhim’s II in its entirety HERE:

One of the most electric newcomers Iron Bonehead has come across in recent years, Malakhim originally self-released their debut recording, Demo I, on cassette during the autumn of 2017, and it sold out within a day. Not surprising, that, if you listen to the three songs comprising their opening salvo: patiently unfolding vortexes of orthodox black metal with more than a bit of death metalled muscle, all in obeisance to the powers of The Beyond, and coalescing into a fever-dreaming fury of hellish hysteria. Iron Bonehead released Demo I on CD at the beginning of 2018 and then on 12″ vinyl five months later, such was the demand.

Now, Malakhim continue that upward/abyss-ward trajectory with their second recording, a four-song/21-minute mini-album fittingly titled II. Taking all the same rudiments of their debut recording and fleshing them out in bolder, more Beyond-pushing shapes, II takes the listener deep into a slipstreaming black (w)hole of malignant majesty. Simultaneously timeless and modern, Malakhim here breathe a confidence that’s blanching to behold, exhibiting a dexterity of songcraft and poise of execution that takes most other bands years to achieve, if ever. That should be no surprise, given the wealth of experience within the ranks of the band; names could be dropped, but all five members believe – quite rightly – that Malakhim should stand on its own merits. And with II, that claim is more justified than ever.

Yet another foretaste of the ominous doom and dread ahead, with II do Malakhim tease what their imminent debut album for Iron Bonehead will manifest…beware, and bow down now! Bow fully before II exclusively HERE:

Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

Tracklisting for Malakhim’s II
1. In the Rays of a New Sun
2. Triumphant Spears
3. He Who Devours
4. Sworn to Satan’s Fire

Black Metal Mystics Ringarë stream IRON BONEHEAD debut album

Today, black metal mystics Ringarë stream the entirety of their highly anticipated debut album, Under Pale Moon. Set for international release on March 8th via Iron Bonehead Productions, hear Ringarë’s Under Pale Moon in its entirety HERE:

Originally going by the moniker Ringar, Ringarë was forged in early winter anno MMIV as pure worship of synth-ridden black metal of the early ’90s. Hours of material was composed and recorded, including a debut full-length that later would be torn apart for Chaos Moon’s Languor into Echoes, Beyond while the remainder of the never-released Ringarë debut slept in shadow for nearly 14 years. Early 2018 saw the rediscovery of these missing pieces, now with refined vision and execution.

Indeed, true to mainman Esoterica’s word, Ringarë’s Under Pale Moon is a refined and exceptionally executed slice of synth-drenched black metal classicism. Under the moon in the Scorpio does this second-wave mysticism lay, beholding the sad realm of the stars while waiting entree into a grand psychotic castle. But, for however ’90s-entrenched Ringarë’s ruminations may be, there’s a keenly nuanced and, above all, wholly authentic aura to this mysticism that ably adds to black metal’s rich ancient language rather than merely paying lip service to it. Its four songs drown the listener in an impossibly foggy, deliriously velveteen experience that renders the 40-minute journey one that’s paradoxically longer, so engaging and bewitching is its moonlit magick.

The past is forever alive, and the journey with Ringarë begins Under Pale Moon. Experience that journey in its entirety HERE:

Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

Tracklisting for Ringarë’s Under Pale Moon
1. Under Pale Moon [10:16]
2. Sorrow Under Starry Sky [6:48]
3. In Nocturnal Agony [3:55]
4. Through Forest and Fog [18:12]

PHILIP H. ANSELMO is an iconic artist – maybe a little bruised, scarred, singed, and somewhat battered by time, himself, and others. But the Texan remains proudly standing, unbent, and still angry. Loved and hated, attacked and praised, Phil is not ready to go down into the archives of musical history without a fight.

His new cooperation with the band that Phil himself created, THE ILLEGALS, is as brutal, kicking, lashing, and fury-filled as one could expect from this artist and PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS‘ debut ‘Walk Through Exits Only’ (2013). Their sophomore album, ‘Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue’ is a much the metaphorical fist in the face and display of force as his adherents could wish for.

‘Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue’ is not a simple repeat of the past – as tempting as that might sound, considering that no other artist left a deeper mark on metal in the 90’s than PANTERA. Raging, roaring, and bulldozing their way through the metal scene, the Texans have left a lasting legacy. At their front stood anger and hostility personified, PHILIP H. ANSELMO. What followed for example with DOWN and SUPERJOINT RITUAL has further cemented the singer’s reputation as a living legend. As an artist in his own right, Phil finally emancipated onto a solo-path with ‘Walk Through Exits Only’, which enabled him to do exactly as he pleased – with no need to compromise on anything.

Now, ‘Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue’ follows along the path that PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS‘ debut has carved, but takes the mega-heavy, angry monster born out of mating the visceral aggression and power of PANTERA with the devastating thrash and Southern sludge that Phil and the New Orleans scene pioneered.

PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS are back and about to mercilessly install ‘Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue’ as a new benchmark for extreme heaviness.
