PRECAMBRIAN set release date for PRIMITIVE REACTION debut, reveal first track – features members of DRUDKH, HATE FOREST, BLOOD OF KINGU+++

Today, Primitive Reaction sets August 21st as the international release date for Precambrian‘s highly anticipated debut album, Tectonics, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Precambrian hail from Ukraine, and include in their ranks a wealth of underground experience. Formed as a power-trio and remaining a power-trio, Precambrian‘s lineup all currently play in Drudkh, have all played in the much-missed Blood of Kingu, and vocalist/guitarist Roman Saenko was a founding member of the influential Hate Forest. It’s that last-named band which bears the most semblance to Precambrian, and indeed is that the guiding directive here: to carry forth the legacy of Hate Forest with nearly all of the current Drudkh lineup.

With that schematic firmly in place, the Proarkhe EP was birthed in 2014 and followed by Aeon EP two years later; just last year, both EPs were combined together on the Glaciology EP with three unreleased tracks. However, the full glory of Precambrian is at least revealed with the band’s long-awaited debut album, Tectonics. Immediately, the ominous surge of classic Hate Forest is felt, mesmerizing and hypnotic and utterly engrossing, all while being barbarically unleashed through savage, searing speed. It’s a peculiar disconnect – throttling violence vs. trance-inducing levitation, one birthing the other (or perhaps the other way around) – but it coalesces with power and poignancy around the grandly guttural throat of Saenko. But, to simply liken Precambrian to Hate Forest Mk II is to severely undercut the strident ‘n’ stringent artistry of Tectonics, where its undeniably martial aspect betrays a wealth of textural imagination; the finest of details and most subtle of nuance are explored and expanded upon with paradoxical uncompromising fervor. Thus, in that latter element, perhaps it is accurate to sire Precambrian as the rightful successor to Hate Forest’s cherished legacy…

Any way one wishes to absorb the vast, violent world of Tectonics, the sum result is the same: Precambrian perform austere-yet-grandiose black metal art exclusively!

Begin absorbing that vast, violent world with the brand-new track “Cryogenian” here:
Tracklisting for Precambrian’s Tectonics
1. Archaebacteria [7:19]
2. Fossilization [4:37]
3. Cryogenian [6:13]
4. Volcanic Winter [5:39]
5. P-Tr. Extinction [6:13]

MALUS VOTUM set release date for LUNAR APPARITIONS debut, reveal first track – features members of DEATH FETISHIST, PANZERGOD, BLUT DER NACHT+++

Today, Lunar Apparitions, a division of Nebular Carcoma, announces August 6th as the international release date for Malus Votum‘s striking debut album, Tradition, on digipack CD format.

Hailing from the United States, Malus Votum are an otherwise-new entity whose two primary members hold a wealth of musical experience in the metal underground. While both drummer/bassist/vocalist Grond Nefarious and guitarist/vocalist Goatlord have played in Portland’s Panzergod at various times (Grond Nefarious also plays in Death Fetishist and previously played in Blut der Nacht), Malus Votum is the first time the duo have joined together in a blood pact to create the purest black metal possible. Fittingly, the band’s debut album is titled Tradition.

Whereas so much nowadays USBM tends toward either bestial or “post” iterations – one unremittingly savage (and sometimes overly so), the other impure or at least betraying black metal’s ancient aims – Malus Votum effortlessly create a windswept mysticism that’s pure second-wave classicism at its very best. To enter the four-song/34-minute Tradition is to enter a snow-covered forest, a lonely castle keep, and foggy seascape alike, so evocatively ethereal is their atmospheric surge. Likewise, the duo’s cascading melodicism betrays no small amount of darkness and drama, their execution as passionate as it is possessed; each engaging moment of Tradition is truly played by actual humans rather than crap drum-machines and too many FX pedals. But, like the very best black metal, Malus Votum transcend the physical, the corporeal, the earthly, and turn their gaze to the cosmos and the Beyond: Tradition thus seeks an experience of spiritual/metaphysical means.

Malus Votum offer you the keys to their cosmic creations and times – will you unlock this Tradition?

Begin unlocking that Tradition with the brand-new track “Wolf Age” here:

Cover and tracklisting as follows:

Tracklisting for Malus Votum’s Tradition 1. The Feast on the Mountain [9:25]
2. Prince of the Culling Tide [10:14]
3. Ritual of Cessation of Forms [5:59]

Slithering in the cauldron that is the Icelandic black metal scene, HELFRÓ emerges with fury and competence rarely seen. Written by Ragnar and arranged by Símon, a debut album has been recorded with unforgiving precision and profound musicianship. It is meant to channel the hopeless and empty feelings that have been concentrated from the frozen wastelands from which the band emerges. Shrilling guitarwork and unforgiving blast beats weave together a soundscape that rarely leaves room for thought. It is an aural attack, seducing the listener to the barren and desolate black sands where the realization of futility and loneliness sets in heavier than anywhere else. The band members, veterans in extreme music, have created this project as an audio representation of the endless arctic darkness, and with pride present the self titled first offering: „Helfró“

Italian death metal cult Valgrind premiere new track “The Day”

Today, Italian death metal cult Valgrind premiere the new track The Day” here:
The track hails from the band’s highly anticipated fourth album, Condemnation, set for international release on July 27th via Memento Mori.

Valgrind was born from the ashes of the ultra-underground act Necrospell in 1993, as a death/black metal project with both extreme and melodic influences. Over the following years, the band released four demos and developed its own style, combining the main influences (Morbid Angel, Pestilence, Death, Nocturnus, Possessed, Monstrosity, Immolation) with a passion for the epically dark atmospheres of bands like Candlemass and early Paradise Lost.

Disbanded in 2003, the strong will to return on stage of both founding member / main songwriter Massimiliano Elia and vocalist Daniele Lupidi (also frontman of Hateful) made Valgrind‘s return possible in 2008. With the addition of new motivated members, the band released their debut full-length, Morning Will Come No More, in 2012. The album contained almost one hour of classic death metal filled with killer solos, memorable riffs and obscure vocals. Following the release, a series of shows were held in Italy, Germany, Holland, and Sweden. In 2016, the band delivered their sophomore full-length, Speech of the Flame, via Lord of the Flies Records. The music strayed away from some of the early influences to become more personal, while the lyrical concept dealt with the darkest sides of the ancient Mediterranean civilizations. An EP called Seal of Phobos followed in 2017, and only one year later, Valgrind delivered their third full-length, their most ambitious work to date, on Everlasting Spew Records. Blackest Horizon saw an increasing level of technicality in the guitar department, while retaining the old-school vibe of the previous works. Vocals became less guttural and more aggressive, while a more organic production gave the listener a wider musical spectrum to dive into. Again, the public was introduced to the new songs in some memorable shows, including Helsinki Deathfest in 2018.

Entering the studio again in mid-2019, Valgrind have now arguably delivered their masterwork: Condemnation. Undeniably and 1000% DEATH FUCKING METAL to the core, there’s an intangible “something,” a never-belabored uniqueness, that now sets these Italians apart from so much stock-standard death metal. For sure, their roots lay in the genre’s old school still, but the bits & pieces they pull and recombine are unexpected but most definitely welcome; no particular scene or substyle or specific year is selected, just the focus on strong songwriting and impassioned performance. Likewise, the lyricism doesn’t betray death metal’s rigorous boundaries – here, it’s the myths of legendary creatures and beasts in various ancient cultures – but Valgrind bring an artful touch to fantastical horror, all of it rolling out of bassist Lupidi’s lugubrious throat with commanding clarity. To that, the power-trio’s clarity of execution is also a thing of (ugly) beauty, firing off one flowing, furious part after another with seamless construction and solos that are the absolute definition of class. In fact, calling Condemnation “classy death metal” would not be much of a stretch: the songwriting itself is that poignant and powerful, and the production – mixed by Cristiano Copat at KK Recording Studio, and mastered by Damian Herring at Subterranean Watchtower Studios – is perfectly matched, skillfully balancing that clarity with crush.

Giving this special album an ever-more-distinctive touch is the cover art courtesy of Lupidi himself, hereby making Condemnation truly Valgrind‘s triumph of death!

Chilean death metal cult Soulrot premiere new track “All that remains”

Today, Chilean death metal cult Soulrot premiere the new track “All That Remains”
The track hails from the band’s highly anticipated second album, Victims of Spiritual Warfare, set for international release on July 27th via Memento Mori
Hailing from the city of Valparaíso, Chile’s Soulrot was formed by guitar player JL Olmos (Betrayed, ex-Micosis, ex-Gangrenous) circa 1993-1994 but was put to rest due to JL being involved in several other projects at the time. It wasn’t until 2013 that JL joined bass player/vocalist JH Wilschrey (Sadistic Murder, Acero Letal) and they both resuscitated Soulrot, manifesting their unquestionable inclination towards the death metal of yore.

This glorious, gangrenous resurrection resulted in the Horrors from Beyond demo in 2014 and the Revelations EP two years later. However, come 2017 did Soulrot finally released their first full-length, Nameless Hideous Manifestations, through death-metal-of-yore stronghold Memento Mori. Bolstered by the addition of Daniel Fredes (Sadistic Murder) on drums, Soulrot stuck to their guns – a lyrical inclination toward H.P. Lovecraft’s cosmogony and the preternatural, and musically inspired by old acts such as Nihilist/Entombed, Carnage, Autopsy, Grave, Necrony, Demigod, Traumatic, Carcass, Nirvana 2002 and Asphyx among others – but here exhibited a bulldozing sense of purpose, a crush-at-all-costs momentum teleported from 1992.

And that bulldozer continues its crush unabated with Soulrot‘s second album, Victims of Spiritual Warfare. Utterly gutsfucked as the previous album was, Victims of Spiritual Warfaresees Soulrot upping the urgency and delivering a tone literally worth dying for – if the teleportation stopped at ’92 for Nameless Hideous Manifestations, then this one’s going no further than 1991! Soulrot somehow pull off the trick of being both rawer and more refined here, their songcraft broadening its scope – more patience, more doom, more CRUSH – whilst tastefully unloading quick-hitting bursts of blistering grindcore, altogether still sounding like the same band. But let it be known that this is still classic DEATH FUCKING METAL, same as it ever was, and always will be with Soulrot. Unbelievers will continue to roll their eyes at the familiarity, but just like they did on their debut album, with Victims of Spiritual Warfare do Soulrot utterly convince with their authenticity and passion. If you don’t “get it,” then you don’t know death metal!

Graced with stark cover artwork by Cesar Valladares and another molten mastering job by the esteemed Javier Felez at Moontower Studios, Soulrot‘s Victims of Spiritual Warfarecould very well be their Indecent and Obscene, You’ll Never See…, or especially Harmony Corruption!

Begin falling victim to their spiritual warfare with the previously revealed “God Forsaken” HERE at Memento Mori‘s official YouTube channel.
Aforementioned cover art and tracklisting are as follows:

DOMINION OF SUFFERING stream SLOVAK METAL ARMY debut album

Today, Slovak/Swiss black/death cult Dominion of Suffering stream the entirety of their highly anticipated debut album, The Birth of Hateful Existence here
Set for international release on June 15th via Slovak Metal Army on CD format (Necroeucharist Productions is handling the vinyl release.announces).

Originally hailing from Slovakia, Dominion of Suffering started in 2008 as a nameless project of drummer Neptun and guitarist Miroslav. Its musical direction was clearly set in the style of old-school death/black metal, focused on paying homage to the old masters and founders of these genres. The result of this effort was the demo Served To The Worms, recorded in March 2011, to which Dr. Channard was invited as a guest guitarist and with whom Neptun played (2008 – 2011) in nowadays-legendary (in the strict underground meaning, of course) brutal death/grind act Nomenmortis. At that time, the demo was released in digital format only, and as a limited CD-R edition, used mainly for promo activities. The physical realization came only in 2016 in the form of 12” vinyl in a limited edition of 200 copies.

In 2012, the band ends all its activities due to Neptun’s departure abroad. Dominion of Suffering was restarted a couple of times in Switzerland, but always failed due to a series of misfortunes. The turning point came in 2018, when the members of bands Antiversum, Deathcult, Cruent, and ex-Traumalice started to work on a renewed project and to prepare a new album. All these efforts of the Slovak/Swiss cooperation resulted in the full-length The Birth of Hateful Existence, now coming to light in 2020. Throughout its existence, the band cooperates closely with Martin Lukáč, who wrote the lyrics for “Served To The Worms” and also for one of the songs on the debut album.

EISENKULT set release date for PURITY THROUGH FIRE debut – features members of MAVORIM, TOTENWACHE, MUECHELMORD

Today, Purity Through Fire sets July 15th as the international release date for Eisenkult‘s striking debut album, …gedenken wir der Finsternis, on CD, vinyl LP, A5 digipack, and cassette tape formats.

Although a brand-new entity, Eisenkult is a blood pact shared among members of Mavorim, Totenwache, and Muechelmord, so naturally, it was only logical for Purity Through Fire to further the propaganda with the release of the band’s debut album, …gedenken wir der Finsternis. Righteously and resolutely traditionally-minded, Eisenkult first strike is a swift, splendorous journey into the more folkloric and fantastical reaches of second-wave classicism. The poignant 8-bit-style intro immediately whisks the listener away to forgotten realms, where the band then proceed to plunge into icy waters of raw-yet-melodic black metal brewed exclusively in the mid-to-late ’90s. Medieval is the atmosphere, austerely Teutonic is its feel, swords sharpened and aloft and with no shortage of chainmail to spare, Eisenkult‘s …gedenken wir der Finsternis is simply 28 minutes of dark melodrama for dreamers, journeyers, and all others against the modern world.

No more but definitely no less, Eisenkult create an authentically ancient landscape worth wandering, and it bears the name …gedenken wir der Fisnternis. As is often the case within the Purity Through Fire stronghold, the past is always alive!

Begin roaming that ancient landscape with the brand-new title track “…gedenken wir der Finsternis” here:

Cover and tracklisting follows:

Tracklisting for Eisenkult’s …gedenken wir der Finsternis

2. Stahlross

VREID were formed in 2004. The Norwegian metal brigade rose from the ashes of WINDIR after the tragic perishing of the “Sognametal” legends with the declared mission of exploring new musical paths.

The Norsemen proved true to their words and have so far delivered 7 albums and one DVD, which each received high praise from critics and fans alike. VREID chose a course of constant evolution that is marked by thematically denoted phases regarding their often historically inspired lyrics.

This became particularly clear with albums ‘I Krig’ (2007) and ‘Milorg’ (2009), which both revolved around concepts dealing with resistance and liberation of Norway during World War II. With their following three records, VREID returned to their Norse roots, especially on latest full-length, ‘Sólverv’ which received high critical acclaim in 2015.

VREID have hammered out their success partly by being a heavily touring band. The four-piece performed more than 500 shows in 25 countries so far. Their everlasting march to conquer new territories has led the Norwegians to headline tours in Europe, North America, Japan, and India.

VREID‘s style is often referred to as black ‘n roll and Metal Hammer UK described their music as “a unique time travel in metal” as elements of 70’s rock, 80’s classic metal, and Norwegian black metal are all clearly audible.

Now with eighth album ‘Lifehunger’, black ‘n roll is back! With eight brand new tracks, VREID are ready for the next chapter.

ASTRIFEROUS set release date for ME SACO UN OJO debut mini-album

Today, Me Saco Un Ojo Ojo Records sets August 7th as the international release date for Astriferous‘ striking debut mini-album, The Lower Levels of Sentience, on 12″ vinyl format. Pulverised Records shall be handling the CD version, while Desert Wastelands Productions will handle the tape version.

Hailing from Costa Rica, Astriferous formed in 2018 and quickly set to work on their first recording. With a couple members concurrently doing time in Bloodsoaked Necrovoid, it’s no surprise that that first Astriferous‘ recording, Raise High the Scepter of Indulgence, was of such exemplary quality. Indeed, from the very beginning was the band’s aesthetic firm and fully formed: utterly gutted, sepulchral Metal of Death betraying an undeniable supernatural aspect.

A live rehearsal followed earlier this year, but at last has Astriferous‘ most ominous strike arrived: the four-song/21-minute The Lower Levels of Sentience. From its title on down to its four component song titles – “Ghost Universe,” “Exercises in Tantric Sorcery,” “Myriad of Grotesquerie,” and especially “Necrohallucination” – it’s immediately apparent the Costa Rican quartet are drawing from a different pool of inspiration for their dread creations. Bleak and bottomless is that abyss, and Astriferous literally drown the listener in death metal molded from grotesque shapes, otherworldly pulses, and hideous energies. Their attack is squarely within pure ‘n’ proud DEATH METAL – churning, caustic, crushing – but sliced and sluiced are frayed threads of blackgrind and the bestial arts, altogether coalescing into a slipstream of sinister atmosphere and boundless morbidity.

Neither resolutely “old school” and far too unclean for the new school, Astriferous are searching for cosmic caverns all their own with The Lower Levels of Sentience.

First track and preorder info to be announced shortly. Cover and tracklisting are as follows:
Tracklisting for Astriferous’ The Lower Levels of Sentience
1. Ghost Universe [4:37]
2. Exercises In Tantric Sorcery [4:34]

MystifieR Releases Two-Part Documentary, ‘MystifieR – Two days in the Capital of Death Metal’

The Brazilian black metal stalwarts of MYSTIFIER have shared a two-part mini-documentary, ‘Mystifier – Two days in the Capital of Death Metal,’ (Dois dias na Capital do Metal da Morte) which follows the band in Belo Horizonte (BR) at the start of their “Under the Black Magick Dinasty” tour. The film explores the history of the band as well as the early days of the Brazilian metal scene. The band visits iconic metal landmarks in this Latin American city such as the Bonfim Cemetary, where SARCOFAGO took the pics for ‘INRI’ and the Cogumelo Records shop. The clips also include behind-the-scenes footage, rehearsals, and more!

Part One

Part Two

The band comments:

“On our trip to the wonderful city of Belo Horizonte/MG – Brazil (which is the city of Sepultura, Sarcofago and others of extreme acts from the 80s), we recorded this documentary about our tour to promote the recent album ‘Protogoni Mavri Magiki Dynasteia,’ released by Season of Mist, in March 2019.

The documentary was recorded in November 2019 and we had no idea what was coming. We didn’t even mention about the pandemic… As all of you know, all of our plans for 2020 have been ruined. All of our tours were canceled in Asia, Europe, United States, Canada and so on. Despite our Mother Earth’s relentless rage against humans (Coronavirus), we are already working on new compositions. Beelzeebubth is working on a solo project too.

A big hug to all our fans, friends, bands, producers, road crews, label and tour managers, pub staff and so on. We can’t wait to come back to road to keep our work on and on. Greetings form Brazil. Stay safe!”

In addition to the documentary, MystifieR has also recently released videos for the songs “Witching Lycanthropic Moon” and “Akhenaton (Son Mighty Sun),” both taken from 2019’s ‘Protogoni Mavri Magiki Dynasteia.’

The videos can be seen HERE and HERE, respectively.

‘Protogoni Mavri Magiki Dynasteiacan’ can be purchased in various formats at THIS LOCATION.
Brazilian act MYSTIFIER was formed by lead guitarist and bassist Beelzeebubth, drummer Lucifuge Rofocale, guitarist Behemoth, and vocalist Meugninousouan in Salvador, Bahia in 1989. The band created an aggressive, fast, and malignant sound within the classic black metal style, which makes them veterans of their scene.

A first demo tape, which was entitled ‘Tormenting the Holy Trinity’ came out in November 1989 and secured the band several shows all over Brazil. The 7″ debut single ‘The Evil Ascension Returns’, as well as a second demo entitled ‘Aleister Crowley’, led to widespread underground recognition for MYSTIFIER in 1990.

MYSTIFIER‘s debut full-length, ‘Wicca,’ was already released worldwide in 1992 and the Brazilians managed to cement their reputation with each following record and accompanying tour. ‘Göetia’ hit the streets in 1993, ‘The World Is So Good That Who Made It Does Not Live Here’ followed in 1996, and ‘Profanus’ came out in 2001. In the wake of the deluxe box ‘Baphometic Goat Worship’ (2008), MYSTIFIER performed at the NWN Festival ll in Berlin, Germany and several other festivals around the globe.

As time went by, MYSTIFIER underwent some radical line-up changes. Vocalist Leandro Kastyphas was replaced by the exceptional Diego Sorcerer Do’Urden from INFESTED BLOOD, and drummer Alex Rocha (POISONOUS) handed his sticks over to Edward WarMonger (formerly of MEDICINE DEATH), who brought much experience and maturity to the group’s compositions.

Having wrecked stages throughout South and North America, Europe and other places with several sold-out shows during the ‘Bloodshed Rituals’ tour in support of ROTTING CHRIST, MYSTIFIER are now proudly presenting their newest offering ‘Protogoni Mavri Magiki Dynasteia!’

Line-up:
Do’Urden: vocals, bass, keyboard
Beelzeebubth: backing vocals, guitar
Warmonger: drums, percussion
