SKELETHAL set release date for new HELLS HEADBANGERS album, reveal first track

Today, Hells Headbangers sets November 20th as the international release date for Skelethal‘s highly anticipated second album, Unveiling the Threshold on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats. “Sidereal Lifespan,” the first track to be revealed from Unveiling the Threshold, can be heard here:
It’s been like an ever-flowing stream for Skelethal, ever since that very first fateful spontaneous rehearsal occurring between Gui Haunting (vocals & guitar) and Jon Whiplash (drums & bass) back in 2012. While the pair initially both played with Bay Area-like devotees Infinite Translation, they instantly bonded not only over classic death metal but its Swedish late ’80s/early ’90s counterpart, back when that subgenre was still in its infancy yet still did reek of that unmistakable stench, away from modern trickery and trends.

Eight years later, their (malicious) intent is not only intact but stronger than ever. Yet, besides an impressive outlet of various splits and demos completed by a first proper full-length (Of The Depths…), what once was a studio-only side-project has now turned into a powerful and fully-fledged band. Skelethal first recruited live session members in 2014 to respond to the live demand, while Jon ended up leaving the band in November 2018 for personal reasons. Assisted by Lucas from Mortal Scepter, who became an official member after serving for over five years as lead guitarist, Gui vowed to recruit a whole lineup, recruiting first Julien on bass and then Lorenzo Vissol from Schizophrenia on drums. By January 2019, the “new” Skelethal started working on the forthcoming second album.

Preceded by the demo-cum-proper-EP Antropomorphia, whose title track has actually been rerecorded here, Unveiling the Threshold succeeds in both staying true to its historical roots – you’ll be easily forgiven if you first think you’ve stumbled into an unreleased Hetsheads or Carnage demo – while going beyond the simple and now too-limited Swedeath tag. Way beyond.
Wasting very little time with its opening salvo “Sidereal Lifespan,” the album first grabs you by the throat before circling the listener like a vulture. They may still tread on the left-hand path, but besides resurrecting a certain idea of the underground – some may say “true” – that seemingly disappeared back in 1991, it’s actually how genuinely evil and undiluted their death metal is that’s most striking about Unveiling the Threshold.

Mostly written by Gui, with contribution by Lucas – who came up with all the music for “Adorned With The Black Vertebra” and helped co-write “Repulsive Recollections” – yet with all four members pitching in for arrangements, the whole album was ironed out throughout 2019. To keep it raw, they opted to record everything by themselves in their rehearsal room in Tourcoing, nearby Lille, in France before handing the result over to Greg Wilkinson from the now-(in)famous Earhammer studios (Necrot, Undergang, Acephalix, etc.) for the mix last June.

Indecent and obscene, rounded by a colorful yet on-purpose cryptic and ominous artwork perfectly illustrating its title by the one and only Eliran Kantor (Bloodbath, Hate Eternal, Athiest, etc.), Unveiling the Threshold is the proof that Skelethal are not here to crawl, but to climb to the very top of the Swedeath food chain. Beware! (text by Olivier Zoltar Badin)

SKELETHAL set release date for new HELLS HEADBANGERS album, reveal first track

A statement from the band reads: “We are very thrilled to present our second full-length, Unveiling the Threshold, which holds the most brutal and in-your-face material composed by Skelethal to this day. On this second album, we were able to develop our death metal in a more efficient way, incorporating a second soloist, faster relentless drums, and allowing the songs to reach the ferocious grounds of early grindcore while still in the realm of Swedish death metal. Overall, the songwriting process has been more personal and included a greater number of influences.”

Continuing, they say, “Actual OSDM thrives worldwide with a very unique sound, behind which we can often find Greg Wilkinson from Earhammer Studios (Undergang, Necrot, Mortuous). This is the reason why we wanted Skelethal to collaborate with him for the mixing and mastering of the album. This, in addition to a new recording process and a still-fresh lineup, enabled us to achieve the heaviest sound we ever had – deep vocals, chainsaw-buzzing guitars, a crushing bass, and an explosive snare drum. The production might be cleaner than our previous releases, but still has its important share of filth and aggressiveness that defines death metal to its core.”

Concluding, “Finally, we asked the talented Eliran Kantor to bring Unveiling the Threshold to life throughout hisvery singular and remarkable paintng. The final result fits perfectly the identity of the band and the album, where monoliths rise from the sea and portals open up to a tormented sky.”

MONGREL’S CROSS set release date for new HELLS HEADBANGERS album – ABSU’s Proscriptor features as new vocalist

Today, Hells Headbangers sets November 27th as the international release date for Mongrel’s Cross‘ highly anticipated third album, Arcana, Scrying and Revelation, on CD and vinyl LP formats.
Hailing from the extreme metal hotbed of Australia, Mongrel’s Cross were once of the best-kept secrets Down Under. The band’s debut album, The Sins of Aquarius, was released in 2012 via Hells Headbangers, and presented an unselfconsciously unique twist on paradigmatic Oz black/death. Grimily gratifying, Mongrel’s Cross unleashed a widescreen span of filthy thrashing, down-tempo war-marches, and epic metal grandeur alike, and diehards dutifully took note. Unfortunately, lineup struggles would hamper momentum, and it would take six long years before another recording reared its head.

However, when Mongrel’s Cross at last emerged from their hiatus, now pared down to a duo, the dividends paid off handsomely. Released in 2018 to widespread international acclaim, Psalter of the Royal Dragon Court soon became something of a modern classic to any and all who heard it. Mongrel’s Cross didn’t so much as change during the interim as simply intensify and fine-tune their iron-fisted attack, here conveying an altogether more terrifying and triumphant aspect. It was the age-old axis of form meeting content, and rarely had a metal record this cleanly produced sounded so threatening, which simply underlined the powerful panache to the band’s strong songwriting. Mongrel’s Cross had truly arrived with Psalter of the Royal Dragon Court – and thankfully, people were now paying attention.

Keeping that shit-hot momentum going, Mongrel’s Cross scored quite the coup in acquiring the legendary vocal skills of Absu’s incomparable Proscriptor for their third full-length. Bearing the appropriately magickal title of Arcana, Scrying and Revelation, these Aussie hooligans-turned-heroes are set to deliver yet another decisive and undeniable album. Mongrel’s Cross are on the march, ready to take the throne that’s rightfully theirs.

If its no-less-considerable predecessor saw Mongrel’s Cross step deeper into territory that’s entirely their own, here with Arcana, Scrying and Revelation do the bolstered quartet solidify that rarefied ground. Not for them the over-generalization of “Australia = war metal” nor the simplistic connotations associated with such; still peaking at the height of their compositional powers, Mongrel’s Cross remain a great extreme METAL entity. All the drama and danger, legendry and lawlessness, power and poison, and essential OTT abandon of this artform otherwise known as heavy metal – everything that Psalter of the Royal Dragon Court so effortlessly played out with a palpably physical poetry – here on Arcana do they render in more manic and narrative form, no doubt informed by Proscriptor’s pioneering work with the singular Absu. In fact, it’s a match so perfect (and poignant), it’s a small wonder it never happened sooner… Regardless, each of these seven screeds artfully canvasses a wide territory of heavy metal magick – the playing deft and nuanced, the songwriting itself direct yet richly detailed – and once again does the clean ‘n’ gleaming production fit like a gauntlet lined with velvet. In a word, Arcana is EPIC, in every sense.

Suitably adorned with majestic cover artwork courtesy of the masterful Kris Verwimp, hereby do Mongrel’s Cross enter the halls of confirmed greatness with Arcana, Scrying and Revelation!

Begin witnessing that greatness with the previously revealed “Suffer the Witch to Live” here:

THE KRYPTIK set release date for new PURITY THROUGH FIRE mini-album, reveal first track

Today, Purity Through Fire sets October 30th as the international release date for a new mini-album from The KryptikBehold Fortress Inferno, on jewelcase CD, 12″ vinyl, and cassette tape formats.

It was but the autumn of 2019 when The Kryptik released their acclaimed second album, When the Shadows Rise, for new label home Purity Through Fire. Here was a startlingly immersive gem of symphonic black metal, and many finally took notice. Indeed, “symphonic black metal” may be a dirty word to some still, but back in simpler, more idealistic times, that appellation bore delicious fruit, and many long-cherished classics of the black metal canon have upheld that banner; more specifically, once upon a time, it was simply BLACK METAL. The Kryptik bore witness to this fact, and since their formation in 2013, the Brazilian duo have dependably practiced their mystical arts with no outside influence from the nowadays “black metal” scene; only the most ancient flame burns within their hearts. And while their 2017 debut album, Through Infinity of Darkness, saw them boldly strike with a decades-past sound that remained remarkably fresh, it was When the Shadows Rise that scaled the grandest citadel of sound – and, it must be said, set a new standard for neo-ancient symphonic black metal.

Now the duo waste no time in eclipsing that a generous 40-minute mini-album, Behold Fortress Inferno. Aptly titled, Behold Fortress Inferno is a moodier and more overtly medieval experience, charging hard into the fog of the ancients with two epic-length tracks before a haunting interlude resets the stage. But over that somber cooldown can be heard the sounds of battle, and back into the fray The Kryptik surge with “Black Legions March,” featuring guest vocals from Mavorim‘s Baptist; swarming with a sumptuous swell of synths, the track offers many a cosmic key to their creations and times. Arguably more so here than on any of the other five tracks do the duo reach their apotheosis: sympho-BM that’s neither modernized nor retro-leaning, but rather an unselfconscious rumination on black metal’s most clandestine mysteries, done with grace and grandiosity, and with an even-defter, more effortless touch. It’s blanching to behold…and as that battle fades away, so does “Paths From Eternity” explode into the cosmos. Closing the mini-album with a reverential nod to tradition is a faithful yet synth-foggy cover of Mayhem’s classic “Funeral Fog,” featuring vocals from Utu’s Necromaniac.

While it’d be semi-accurate to state that Behold Fortress Inferno is an equal counterpart to When the Shadows Rise, that would only serve to undercut The Kryptik‘s undeniable artistry and care for craft – and when black metal, symphonic or otherwise, is done with this much passion and poignancy, the fact that it exists at all should be celebrated. But in another, more accurate sense, The Kryptik simply (and swiftly!) consolidate their all-too-considerable strengths here, and the result is another new essential for those who imbibe the timeless magick of old Obtained Enslavement, Abigor, and Limbonic Art as well as the more overlooked likes of Nocternity, Evilfeast, and later Kataxu. BEHOLD!

Germany’s SLAGMARK to release special demo through PURITY THROUGH FIRE, reveal first track – features members of SARKRISTA, TOTENWACHE+++

Today, Purity Through Fire sets October 30th as the international release date for a brand-new demo from Germany’s SlagmarkRadical Malice, on digipack CD format. It shall be sold at a special price of 6.66 Euros.

Already this past April, Slagmark made their bolt-from-the-blue debut with the full-length Purging Sacred Soils via Purity Through Fire. Although a brand-new entity, Slagmark feature members of Sarkrista and Totenwache. As such, the brand play pure and proud BLACK METAL of the old ‘n’ cold variety. Trace elements of classic Finnish-style black metal ran rampant across Purging Sacred Soils – a cryogenic fire, steeped in filth and fury as it is hateful – which is not surprising given the Sarkrista connection, they a band of transplanted Finns. And now they carry that fire forward with a swift ‘n’ decisive demo aptly titled Radical Malice. No changes nor compromises have been made here: this is 100% black metalled classicism steeped in the spirit of the 1990s, no more but definitely no less! The results are rawer but refined, and yet more new fuel to the fire that stokes the classic Finnish/German alliance has been added by Slagmark, who are likely working in their armory on more weapons of righteous destruction & raging darkness. But only time shall tell…until then, face their Radical Malice!

NOVAE MILITIAE stream new album

Today, French black metal enigmas Novae Militiae stream the entirety of their highly anticipated second album, Topheth. Set for international release on September 15th via Goathorned Productions, hear Novae Militiae‘s Topheth in its entirety here:
Novae Militiae was founded in 2009. In a wish to remain anonymous and develop a mysterious aura in line with its vision of black metal, the band has never revealed who the members involved in this project were.

The first demo EP, Affliction of the Divine, was released on the label Nihilward at the end of 2011. This one, limited to 500 copies, is now sold-out. A tape reissue was published in 2015 by the label From the Dark Past, limited to 99 copies. This first recording aroused a certain interest in the orthodox black metal scene despite low promotion.

The first Novae Militiae album, Gash’khalah – the destroyer in the Tree of Death – was released in 2017 by Goathorned Productions and consisted of eight tracks across a total duration of 55 minutes. It was published as a digipack CD limited to 300 copies. More accomplished than the previous EP, Gash’khalah established Novae Militiae as an essential band to the initiated. Here, the band took on a more brutal orientation, while atmospheres became more developed and transcendental. In 2018, the labels Sentient Ruin Laboratories and Argento Records joined forces to release the vinyl version of Gash’khalah in a double-LP version limited to 300 copies that came in a heavy gatefold jacket and an etched side D.

Now, at long last, Novae Militiae revealed their second full-length work, Topheth, once again through the auspices of Goathorned Productions. Suitably titled, Topheth means “the place to burn” in Hebrew, but is also the place of human sacrifice to the god Moloch in the Bible. Indeed burning, both physically and especially spiritually, this second Novae Militiae album consists of six stout tracks: four of black metal – orthodox in composition, religious in their fervor, blindingly brilliant each one – and two of ritual/dark ambient, altogether making for an immersive 54-minute experience. On this occasion, two tracks from the early Affliction of the Divine EP were re-recorded, as the production was not completely satisfactory at that time, but they duly contribute to a unified whole, which underlines how powerful Novae Militiae‘s vision was from the very beginning. For the rest of Topheth, the band studiously worked on darker and more complex atmospheres in connection with their investment in the Left Hand Path. The result? Arguably, the strongest statement made in orthodox/religious black metal in over a decade, both revitalizing the form and reshaping it to Novae Militiae‘s design.

The release of Topheth is planned for September 15th, 2020 on Goathorned Productions in a digipack CD version limited to 300 copies. A vinyl version will also be released later on by Sentient Ruin Laboratories.

SEPTAGE set release date for ME SACO UN OJO debut EP – features members of TAPHOS and HYPERDONTIA

Today, Me Saco Un Ojo Ojo Records sets October 16thh as the international release date for Septage‘s striking debut EP, Septic Decadence, on 7″ vinyl format. Pyre Press will be handling the cassette tape version.

Although a brand-new entity, Septage feature members of Taphos and Hyperdontia, and are perhaps unsurprisingly yet another sterling addition to Copenhagen’s thriving death metal scene of late. However, unlike those two bands, Septage indeed dwell deeply within sewage and gore, exhibiting a sound that reverentially nods to early Carcass as well as the contemporaneous Finnish death metal scene such records as Reek of Putrefaction and especially Symphonies of Sickness so inspired.

On evidence of the band’s debut EP, Septic Decadence, Septage are a fresh breath of foul old air, proudly presenting themselves as a gore-infested death metal band whilst offering new knife twists to the subgenre. Aptly titled, Septic Decadence burrows within slime and grime and yet has a remarkably clear-headed approach that only heightens that physical/metaphysical grossness; let one not dare call it “clean,” but Septage‘s execution here is extremely articulate, their chops truly enviable. Likewise, the EP maintains a crispy ‘n’ cutting production that’s richly analog in feel. Together, these elements combine to create a shock & awe record of righteous proportions: four songs in 12 minutes, the listener left stunned by the punishing pustulence the band so effortlessly dole out. And as vividly displayed by climactic closer “Septicious Septic,” the haunting’s just begun…

First track and preorder info to be announced shortly. Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

GRAVE DESECRATOR: Brazilian black/death act shares new video “Temple Of Abominations”

https://store.bruderdeslichts.com/collections/misc/products/baphomet-stainless-steel-beer-mug

Long-serving black/death metal group Grave Desecrator has recently released a video for the track “Temple of Abominations” from their latest album, Dust to Lust. The video contains footages from the “20 Years Of Desecration Tour.”

With this video, the Brazilian group puts an end to the Dust to Lust era. The quartet is currently working on the new album that is likely to appear in the first half of 2021.

The band states:
“We are ending a cycle and starting a new chapter in the history of Grave Desecrator. We are finalizing the new compositions, and very soon, we will enter the studio to start the recording process.

“Until the new material arrives, check out the new video and subscribe to the YouTube channel.”

Watch “Temple Of Abominations”:
Formed in 1998, Grave Desecrator is a Brazilian Black/Death Metal band from Rio de Janeiro. Since the inception, the band has released three studio albums, a live album, and a couple of EPs and splits. Their latest opus, Dust To Lust, came in 2016 under the flag of Season Of Mist (France).

Grave Desecrator’s raw and aggressive form of sound made them an influential name in the current South American extreme metal scene. Their music and live shows conjure satanism, perdition, chaos, and funerary sacrilege, surrounded by a mundane and nasty atmosphere.

The Brazilian group has conquered more than 50 cities across 15 countries, appeared at prestigious festivals like Live Evil, and shared stages with the likes of Ghost, Angel Witch, Vulcano, Deströyer 666, Archgoat, Black Witchery, Hirax, Sadistic Intent, Bölzer, and more.

In 2018, Grave Desecrator began their 20th-anniversary tour that lasted until 2019. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the band had to postpone their shows in Europe, the USA, and South America. 2021 is likely to be a busy year for the band as a new album and many local and overseas shows (including a few festivals) are on schedule. And the madness continues …

THEOTOXIN stream new AOP RECORDS album in advance of its release

Today, Austrian black metallers Theotoxin stream the entirety of their highly anticipated third album, Fragment : Erhabenheit, in advance of its release date. Set for international release on September 11th via AOP Records. Hear Theotoxin’s Fragment : Erhabenheit in its entirety here:
With the intention of creating supreme black metal art, Theotoxin ascended from the catacombs of Vienna, Austria in 2016. A quintet featuring members of Zombie Inc., Selbstentleibung, and now-labelmates Anomalie, this strong lineup of musicians has been well tested on tour all over Europe.

In 2017, Theotoxin self-released their debut album, Atramentvm, and kept writing new material, which led to the release of the successor Consilivm (Massacre Records) just a year later. Plenty of live appearances and a tour through Europe followed, further honing the band’s considerable chops. On those stages did the band deliver a throttling live show with deep atmosphere; the name Theotoxin began to spread.

Now aligned with longtime fans AOP RecordsTheotoxin are eager to spread their black chants even further with their strongest album yet. Bearing the thematic title of Fragment : ErhabenheitTheotoxin’s third album is both a consolidation of the band’s strengths as well as an extension of new ones. Much like their intense onstage performances, the violence is palpable – almost overwhelmingly so – and is doled out with the ease of experienced masters. Equally so, however, a chilling melodicism rises from this physicality which puts Fragment : Erhabenheit in rarefied territory: a paradoxically refreshing (re)iteration of second-wave black metal classicism. It’s as much mid ‘90s as it is Now, and Theotoxin simply make it look all too easy…

Suitably graced with demonic-yet-mystical artwork courtesy of the masterful Jose Gabriel Sabogal, Fragment : Erhabenheit is guaranteed to be Theotoxin’s breakout moment!

LIFVSLEDA stream SHADOW debut album

Lo and behold, Det Besegrade Lifvet – the debut full-length by Lifvsleda, and follow-up to the highly acclaimed Manifest MMXIX EP that hit the underground last year with its furious and rotten old-school black metal – is set to be released on the 11th of September by Shadow Records (distributed & marketed by Regain Records). . Hear Lifvsleda‘s Det Besegrade Lifvet in its entirety here:
Keeping consistent with the strident foundation laid forth by their debut EP, Lifvsleda‘s Det Besegrade Lifvet features nine tracks of wild, raw, and absolutely brilliant black metal in the vein of the early Nordic scene. Once again partly recorded out in the woods, in uttermost isolation, during the ongoing plague, you can truly feel the atmosphere of this album, and the stench of something old and rotten that has been dug up and resurrected. And despite it being the band’s debut album, Det Besegrade Lifvet evinces an ancient wisdom, an archaic splendor wrought from turbulence and times of conflict – days when black metal didn’t mean just posting photos of one’s shiny, new record collection on social media. No, the members behind Lifvsleda have been involved in the real black metal scene, in one way or another and in various constellations, since its glorious beginning. Who they specifically are matters not; all that does and all that is real is the ripped ‘n’ ripping righteousness of Det Besegrade Lifvet.

The album shall be released by Shadow Records under exclusive license from the Lifvsleda horde on noble gatefold vinyl and compact disc, as well as a strictly limited cassette, all packed and presented in a way to glorify the art in its most supreme way. It will also be streaming on your favorite digital platform, distributed and marketed by Regain Records.

Let it be spread as a pestilence over the barren earth, and remember: don’t blame the rats for spreading the Black Death!
