ENTHRONED release third track “Vapula Omega” from upcoming new album

The band comments: “Stone by stone we reveal the temple that is “Cold Black Suns”. “Vapula Omega”, the third facet of the prism, is the scrying mirror that shows the face one does not want to see within our modern culture, where labour and careers are being worshipped as the icons of old. With this one, we want to show that Satanism and demonology also have their place in our contemporary culture.”
ENTHRONED will celebrate the release of ‘Cold Black Suns’ on Thronefest in Belgium in June. Find all confirmed tour dates below.

ENTHRONED is surely a name black metal fans are no strangers to. Over the course of the last 25 years, they have pushed the boundaries of black metal and the deepness of the Left Hand Path philosophy further within. The quintet has channelled that dedication into their newest record. ‘Cold Black Suns’ is a dark and crushing black metal album where cold riffing, blood chilling atmospheres, and ritualistic drumming are keys to forging their most mature and accomplished opus to date.

The band, who crawled out of the black lands of Belgium in 1993, inked their first contract less than a year after its formation, and recorded debut album ‘Prophecies of Pagan Fire,’ which is now considered an all-time classic in the genre.

By then known as The Blackened Horde to fans and the scene at large, ENTHRONED recruited guitarist Nornagest and within 2 years entered Hautregard Studios to give birth to their second album. After the recording, tragedy struck and founding member and drummer Cernunnos (1997) took his own life.

The band went on to record the album using Cernunnos’s drum tracks from rehearsal recordings which were recorded by long time friend Da Cardoen, from the Belgian band ASPHYXIA. ‘Towards the Skullthrone of Satan’ was thus born. Since then, ENTHRONED went on to tour the world and have released a total of 10 full-lengths, one live album, and a hearty handful of splits and EPs.

Now, as the band celebrates 26 years as one of black metal’s premier outfits, they are ready to unleash number 11 onto the masses. ‘Cold Black Suns’ is an icy, brutal offering from the band that will see a worldwide release on June 7, 2019 via Season of Mist, making it their debut to the label. This is the band’s first album in five years, following up 2014’s critically acclaimed ‘Sovereigns.’

‘Cold Black Suns’ is one of 2019’s most anticipated releases and is certain to hold up to the hype that surrounds it, delivering an evolved and crushing offering from Belgium’s own black metal legends.

Since rising to prominence with his first band Trelldom, legendary singer, front man, artist and composer, Gaahl, has been one of Norway’s most talked about and respected extreme metal musicians. His work with Trelldom, Gorgoroth and God Seed has been widely regarded as some of the best the black metal scene has had to offer.

Gaahls passion and dedication to his art has earned him followers far and beyond the realms of the metal community, becoming a household name in the art scene and a he has become a well-respected alternative thinker.

In 2015 the charismatic singer assembled some of Norway’s finest metal musicians under the new moniker Gaahls WYRD. The band consisted of Ole Walaunet (The Batallion, God Seed, Grimfist), Frode Kilvik (Krakow, Aeternus), Sir (Trelldom, Djerv, God Seed) and Bård Kolstad (Leprous, Borknagar).

The band’s first show was an appearance at the one-off festival BlekkMetal, held in Bergen, Norway the same year. The show was recorded for the live EP “Nov. 15”, released by the band in 2017. The EP was celebrated during the bands two European runs “Vardøger 2017” and “Vardøger” 2018. Bård Kolstad was replaced by Kevin Kvåle (Horizon Ablaze) in the 2nd half of 2017 and Kårstad stepped out of the band after the first leg of the “Vardøger” tour.

In mid 2018 the band teamed up with producer Iver Sandøy (Enslaved, Emmerhoff & the Melancholy Babies) to record their first full-length album “GastiR – Ghosts Invited”, set to be released by Season of Mist (World) and Indie Recordings (Norway) on May 31st.

The highly anticipated debut album from Gaahls WYRD will see the band chart territories within the extreme metal genre no one has ever walked before.

ENTHRONED went on touring the world and releasing albums such as ‘Regie Sathanas’, ‘The Apocalypse Manifesto’ and ‘Armoured Bestial Hell’, the first album to feature core member Neraath on guitars. Then followed ‘Carnage in Worlds Beyond’, a brutal piece of black metal recorded by Harris Johns.

Ten years after their very first release, ENTHRONED recorded ‘XES Haereticum’, their last studio album with original vocalist and founding member Sabathan. The band then recruited Phorgath from the Belgian veterans EMPTINESS on bass and backing vocals, with Nornagest assuming the main vocal duties.

ENTHRONED recorded their seventh album ‘Tetra Karcist’ (first with this line-up) in 2007, which was hailed at the time as one of the best releases of the band. ‘Tetra Karcist’ also was the first opus out of a conceptual quadrilogy including ‘Pentagrammaton’, ‘Obsidium’ and last but not least ‘Sovereigns’.

The 2014 record ‘Sovereigns’ saw the debut of Menthor on drums, as well as extensive touring over the next four years. In 2016, Phorgath and guitarist ZarZax departed the band on amicable terms, and were replaced by Norgaath and Shagal (from cult Argentinian act VIBRION) respectively.

The band have started to work on their 11th and most anticipated album so far, which will be released in 2019 by Season of Mist.

Interview with Atmospheric Black Metal Band Automb

Automb are a new Black metal band coming out of the Pittsburgh area that are already getting attention of all the major metal media outlets. Formed by Serge (ex Necrophagia), Danielle and Scott Fuller (Morbid Angel) today we sat down with them to find out all we can on this new band.

ORDER THEIR ALBUM HERE

How did you guys meet?
We met through going to the same metal shows.

When did you decide to form Automb?
We formed Automb in the fall of 2017. It was a way for us to collaborate musically as well as a way for Serge to create black metal on the side while doing Necro.

I think it was from watching crazy church burning/murder, suicide documentaries about bands like Mayhem and Burzum

How did you get into Black metal? What was the one band that “did it” for
you?

Danielle: I was big into death metal for a while when I first started listening to metal and then I just started to venture off more and more. Immortal was one of the first black metal bands I listened to, then I got into the subgenres within black metal so DSBM, atmospheric black metal, etc. I would say bands like Watain, Rotting Christ, Deathspell Omega and Belphegor are the bands that “did it” the most for me.

Serge: I think it was from watching crazy church burning/murder, suicide documentaries about bands like Mayhem and Burzum. It was the next extreme thing for me in the evolution of metal. After that I discovered the whole Scandinavian scene and so on. I can’t pick a single band. But it was definitely bands like Emperor, Dissection, Gorgoroth, Satyricon and Immortal that made me want to write Black Metal.

What bands would you rate as influences on Automb?
Danielle: For me personally Watain and Dissection were huge influences on my lyrical content for sure.

Serge: Dissection, Emperor, Satyricon, Behemoth, Drudkh, Belphegor, Nokturnal Mortum, Watain.

Serge how long have you been playing guitar for?
13 years

What was your set up like for this album (guitar and amp)
I used an ESP LTD Eclipse and a peavey 6505+ head with a Mesa cab.

Eventually I ended joining Haxxan

How did you get into playing guitar for Necrophagia?
I used to play drums for a local black metal band around Pittsburgh and we got to open up for Taake and Killjoy happened to be at the show. He came up to my merch table to say that he really enjoyed my drumming and We ended up talking about all the Black Metal legends and burning churches for a good while and then he told me that he had a new black metal side project and he needed a drummer so he gave me his number and eventually I ended joining Haxxan. We spent about 2 or 3 months on rehearsals. One night I got the call to join the band as the guitarist and we had a show to do in 2 weeks and that was that.

What was it like to work with Killjoy?
It was easy and hard. It depended on what we were doing. We got along pretty well for the most part but we had our fights after stressful days. We had our disagreements but we eventually worked things out. He ended up agreeing to use most of my ideas for the new album.

We met Scott at the Morbid Angel gig in Pittsburgh

How did you guys get Scott from Morbid Angel to work with you?
We met Scott at the Morbid Angel gig in Pittsburgh earlier this year. Serge ended up getting his number and all that. We originally had another drummer do half of the tracks. We won’t mention who it is but we ended up going our separate ways. We had a deadline with the label and were looking for a drummer and Scott offered to help.

I mainly identify with the practice of witchcraft in all forms

Did either of you practice any religions if so what ones?
Danielle: I have considered myself to be “pagan” for quite a few years now. Throughout that time thought I have engaged more closely with varying subsectors of the occult or pagan belief systems. I mainly identify with the practice of witchcraft in all forms. I believe nature is the most holy and powerful place and it is through nature that we can directly communicate with the divine.

Serge: I wouldn’t call it religion but I do follow some paths that include paganism, hinduism, witchcraft, left hand path and other esoteric practices. I don’t like to conform to one single path because to me that’s only a small step away from Christianity

Have you ever had any strange psychic or occult experiences?
Danielle: Yes, plenty. I’ve been in tune with the spiritual realm for as long as I can remember.

Serge: Yes a few.

Have you played any live shows as Automb yet?
Not yet.

If not when can we expect to see you guys play live?
We have a show on November 2nd in Turtle Creek, PA.

And let the black flame inside be your guide!

Any final words?
We have a new lyric video coming out today!

And let the black flame inside be your guide!

PROPHECY PRODUCTIONS ANNOUNCES U.S. EXPANSION & PROPHECY FEST USA

August 1, 2018 – Los Angeles, CA – Following two decades of acclaimed success, with revered releases from some of the most prolific and groundbreaking acts in eclectic heavy music, Germany based Prophecy Productions has officially announced their expansion to North America with a division of the label now established in Los Angeles.

Further affirming their presence, Prophecy has unveiled the first edition of Prophecy Fest USA, which will take place at The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, NY on November 2nd and 3rd. The inaugural event will feature performances by Alcest, Xasthur, November’s Doom, So Hideous and more. Those who purchase tickets to the Fest will receive a special edition 2xCD Prophecy Compilation. Two day tickets are available now at http://us.prophecy.de/prophecy-fest/prophecy-fest-us-ticket.html.

Prophecy Productions emerged in 1996, quickly earning worldwide regard for high quality releases and a selective, eclectic roster. Beginning as a self-run mail order, Prophecy owner & founder Martin Koller released Empyrium’s 1996 debut, A Wintersunset… To this day, he has continued to nurture and develop artists he loves, resulting in a staggering roster which sports artist such as Alcest, Khôrada, Bethlehem, Lantlôs, Falkenbach, etc.

With growing awareness of the vast differences and growing possibilities in the US metal community, Koller chose to expand into the US by opening a North American division. In 2017, Koller moved to California to explore new possibilities in the American market, establishing a diverse, talented and dedicated American team, consisting of Rayshele Teige (ex-Century Media and Osmose), Kay Shelton (ex-20 Buck Spin & Wolves in the Throne Room, Northwest Terror Fest), and Matt Bacon (Metal Injection, Dropout Media).

With Prophecy in the USA, this powerhouse team aims to enrich and expand the Prophecy roster, uncovering and cultivating fresh artists and supporting icons alike. So far, the US roster reads eccentric, eclectic and nicely unpragmatic; US black metal pioneers Nachtmystium and Xasthur, highly speculated and anticipated supergroup Khôrada (ex-Agalloch, Giant Squid), blackened-sludge abyss Eye of Nix, Oakland surrealists Silence in the Snow, black metal/noise crossover superstar Crowhurst, and brute-doom experimentalists Year of the Cobra.

Ukraine’s DIS ORCUS stream FOREVER PLAGUED debut album

The most (unbeknown) anticipated album of 2018 for True Black Metal…today, is the Dis Orcus’ debut album, Somnambulistic Visions. Set for international release on July 27th via Forever Plagued Records, hear Dis Orcus’ Somnambulistic Visions in its entirety exclusively HERE.

In these days, where black metal has lost its essence, replaced by dialogue from those who have no intrinsic affinity, Forever Plagued presents to you the debut album of Ukraine’s Dis Orcus. Bringing the very core of what has been lost, against the trends that have turned this genre into subjugated ruins, once again feel the reverberation of chaos and darkness with soulless certainty. Known in the underground for his work in Primogenorum, Haruspex has muted the defiance and created sounds that we call worthy to be defined as “true,” and Lucifug with his haunting vocals were conceived through servitude and pain to the chaos within!

Hear all of it for yourself exclusively HERE.

Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

Tracklisting for Dis Orcus’ Somnambulistic Visions
1. Alone in the Empty Space
2. Somnambulistic Visions
3. The Circles of Fire and Dead
4. Frozen in the Embrace of Kokyto

Cuban Black Metal Band Skjult “Progenies Ov Light” Album Review

Progenies Ov Light is the second release from cuban act Skjult. In the old day I used to avoid “one man acts” (outside of Burzum of course!) as they were usually pretty one dimensional and uninspired.
Skjult main man Conspirator has out done himself with this release, this album has more more urgency and savagery than debut release “within the flesh”

I don’t know very much (if anything at all about the Black metal scene in Cuba but this album makes me want to know more, fuck it – this album makes me want to book a trip down there just to check out the scene in Havana. A good friend of mine is a long time tattoo artist and him and his wife take frequent trips to Cuba to help the struggling artists in the Tattoo scene down there. Due to necessity and limited resources the tattoo artists come up with very inventive ways to ply their trade. I cannot even fathom what a Black metal group in Havana has to go through to make music happen (note Conspirator was also in the Cuban BM group Heretik)

This is good shit and only $10 for the CD – pick up a copy here:

Track-list:

01. Into The Void
02. Immolation Rites
03. Summoning The Eternal Black Flames Of Death
04. Glorious Night
05. Hail Blasphemous Hated (The Lord Is Upon Us)
06. A Crown Of Horns
07. Dawn Of An Era Ov Light
08. Baptized By The Unholy Goat [bonus track]

The first 4 songs of Skjult were written in the June 2015 during the recording sessions of the first material of Conspirator´s main project called Heretik. So, June 2015 is probably the foundation date. Within The Flesh was completed and recorded in July-August 2015 and released in April 2016. Then re-released. This new edition included an instrumental (Over the Darkest Mist), a new song (The Void) and Darkthrone cover and was released in August 2016. From this date until August 2017 Skjult has been working on new material which will be included in the second full length under the title “Progenies ov Light”.

Italian death metal band Godless Enthropia “Tetracyclic Dominion” album review

I should probably not be reviewing this album as my views on most modern death metal are pretty well known to most of our readers by now. But in case its your first time here – to sum it up I feel that there isn’t much fresh in modern death metal outside of a few great bands like Blood Incantation and Beyond Creation most of it is derivative and has been done before better but the earlier pioneers of the genre.

However with all that out of the way I would not be doing this blog or the band justice if I didn’t give this album a fair chance.

So what do ya think Alex?

Well I gotta say as much as I kinda despise a lot of modern death metal – this is a a great fucking album. While the guys are more than technically competent they do not play technicality for techniques sake alone. They do not play the none more brutal game either. There is a lot of variety between songs and there are a lot of twists and turns in the songs that will keep ya coming back time and time again for repeat listens

Would I buy this album if I saw it in a record store? Probably not – however does this album give me hope for the future of the Death metal genre? yes! absolutely

In 2014 singer Davide joins Claudio and Simone in the band, giving life to “Politics of Fornication”, released in Autumn 2014. Meanwhile, Wael Ben Halima is welcomed in the band as a guitarist.
