HOLOCAUSTO set release date for new NUCLEAR WAR NOW! album, reveal first track

Today, Nuclear War Now! Productions sets July 31st as the international release date for the highly anticipated sixth album of Brazil’s HolocaustoDiário de Guerra, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Holocausto were among the very first extreme metal bands to form in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, a city now recognized for spawning one of the most crucial regional styles of extreme metal. Along with Sepultura, Sarcófago, Mutilator, and a handful of other bands, Holocausto played a particularly sinister-sounding strain of deathrash (or deathcore, as they used to call it in 1987), which, owing to the evil edge it exhibited, is now regarded as an early expression of the then-emerging black metal movement. Holocausto was arguably the most primal of the group, with reckless riffs balanced on the brink of abandon, held together by sheer feral intensity. Holocausto stood out from their peers due to the band’s fascination with themes related to the atrocities of war and a sound perfectly suited to the subject matter.

After releasing their classic debut full-length, Campo de ExtermínioHolocausto’s sound changed drastically. Led by Rodrigo Führer, and no longer playing the same frenzied and primitive style, Holocausto shifted toward a conventional thrash metal sound for its sophomore album before veering into more polished, technical, and even industrial-influenced metal in the early 1990s. Holocausto’s output since that time has been sporadic, but through the years, Campo de Extermínio has retained its power, assuming a rightful place in the canon of Brazilian extreme metal.

In 2016, the original Warfare Noise lineup of the band reunited to resurrect its old sound for the unanticipated and superb War Metal Massacre album. Last year’s Guerra Total demo, featuring the same lineup as Campo de Extermínio, was nothing short of astonishing. Holocausto proved that it is possible for a band to reclaim the youthful intensity of its earlier recordings after straying far from the original sound, a feat that almost no band has successfully accomplished.

With Diário de GuerraHolocausto has arguably produced the finest Brazilian deathcore/black metal album in about 30 years. It is a vengeful and violent exploration of human horror. The raw, razor-wire sound of Valério Exterminator’s guitar is wound around the pummeling fury of the bass and drums, delivered by Anderson Guerrilheiro (Insulter) and Armando Nuclear Soldier (Insulter, Mutilator, and Sarcófago). The album is relentless, each riff a savage outburst, each song an unyielding attack. Directing the assault are the vocals of Rodrigo Führer, whose snarling, dictatorial growls accentuate the band’s misanthropic tendencies. In keeping with the classic Holocausto sound, the songs here are unrestrained, and, at times, appear to be capable of flying off the rails, but the band always manages to harness the chaos and cacophony in a way that is quintessentially Brazilian.

For any fans of the early Brazilian pioneers, Diário de Guerra will sound almost like an unearthed lost recording from that era featuring all the hallmarks that defined the genre. Hear for yourself with the new title track “Diário de Guerra”

Since rising to prominence with his first band Trelldom, legendary singer, front man, artist and composer, Gaahl, has been one of Norway’s most talked about and respected extreme metal musicians. His work with Trelldom, Gorgoroth and God Seed has been widely regarded as some of the best the black metal scene has had to offer.

Gaahls passion and dedication to his art has earned him followers far and beyond the realms of the metal community, becoming a household name in the art scene and a he has become a well-respected alternative thinker.

In 2015 the charismatic singer assembled some of Norway’s finest metal musicians under the new moniker Gaahls WYRD. The band consisted of Ole Walaunet (The Batallion, God Seed, Grimfist), Frode Kilvik (Krakow, Aeternus), Sir (Trelldom, Djerv, God Seed) and Bård Kolstad (Leprous, Borknagar).

The band’s first show was an appearance at the one-off festival BlekkMetal, held in Bergen, Norway the same year. The show was recorded for the live EP “Nov. 15”, released by the band in 2017. The EP was celebrated during the bands two European runs “Vardøger 2017” and “Vardøger” 2018. Bård Kolstad was replaced by Kevin Kvåle (Horizon Ablaze) in the 2nd half of 2017 and Kårstad stepped out of the band after the first leg of the “Vardøger” tour.

In mid 2018 the band teamed up with producer Iver Sandøy (Enslaved, Emmerhoff & the Melancholy Babies) to record their first full-length album “GastiR – Ghosts Invited”, set to be released by Season of Mist (World) and Indie Recordings (Norway) on May 31st.

The highly anticipated debut album from Gaahls WYRD will see the band chart territories within the extreme metal genre no one has ever walked before.

Hell’s serpentine maw unhinges and its venom-drenched jaws spew forth Hellvetron‘s long-awaited second full-length offering titled Trident of Tartarean Gateways – a baneful opuscule of ceremonial black metal ensorcelled by nine accursed spells formulated to awaken the primal current and rouse the chthonic Witch-Gods of the Tartarean Realms. Pay tribute to the Trident of the Left Hand; burn in sulfurous fire of the Torchbearer’s Witchflame, drink the holy poisons of the Scorpion Lord, and enter the ancient doorway to the Nightside Realm of Hell’s Queen. HEXENBRETT to have debut demo re-released by CALIGARI – streaming in full

Today, Caligari Records sets May 30th as the international release date for Hexenbrett‘s debut demo, Erste Beschwörung, on cassette tape format. Originally self-released at the end of 2018, this first summoning of the macabre Hexenbrett will surely be one of 2019’s most nefarious recordings.

Hexenbrett is an entity that provides cemetery sounds exclusively. The first invocation, fittingly entitled Erste Beschwörung, is a sample of what will follow in the future. Roaming ancient dungeons with sword in one hand and torch in the other, Hexenbrett conjures the madness and mysticism of olde-worlde black metal, when unorthodoxy was celebrated and no blueprints yet existed – only paths to be blazed! Indeed does Hexenbrett blaze across this six-song/26-minute offering, remaining firmly rooted in the purest metals but fanning those flames with a creepy, coffin-dwelling atmosphere that puts Erste Beschwörung in a league all its own, also incorporating eldritch doom and deathrock into this wildly bubbling cauldron. And it’s early days still…

No boundaries, no limitations: Hexenbrett digs its own unique grave with Erste Beschwörung, and the cemetery is wide-fucking-open. The spell was cast, the demons are here – let the haunting begin! The full haunting can be heard here:
Cover and tracklisting are as follows:
Tracklisting for Hexenbrett’s Erste Beschwörung
1. Hexen (Bis Aufs Blut Gequält)
2. Toter Schrei
3. Farben der Nacht

BLACK TUSK will be playing in support of their latest release ‘TCBT’ which was released in August 2018 and is streaming in full here!

The band comments on the album: “We decided to entitle this record ‘TCBT.’ Its a play on TCB, taking care of business, add a T to the end and its Taking Care of Black Tusk. Its an idea, a slogan if you will that James and Athon came up with some years ago, and since his passing and essentially the reformation of this band we found it fitting for a title. We turned inward after Pillars of Ash. Corey came on board and we did the tours to support that record playing the songs that we had written with Athon, Then we took some time off and learned how to write with a new member, we took our time and worked out our ideas, we brought new ideas and talents into the fold. This record is something that we are truly proud of, its the culmination of two years of reworking ourselves as a band. We’ve closed one chapter of this band are starting anew, we are Taking Care of Black Tusk. We recorded this record as a three piece and are going to tour to perform it as a four piece. With a nod to our past and with the knowledge of lessons learned and experience gained, we are heading back out full throttle with a new energy and a new band. When you listen, you will hear Black Tusk, not the old as was, but a new Black Tusk keeping tour roots and carving a new path.”

The cover art of ‘TCBT’ can be viewed together with the album details below.

Track-list
1. A Perfect View of Absolutely Nothing (1:22)
2. Closed Eye (2:28)
3. Agali (3:47)

5. Scalped (4:47)

9. Never Ending Daymare (2:57)

Total 42:28

There was blood, maybe a few tears too, but more than anything, it was sweat that marks this brand new release of BLACK TUSK called ‘TCBT’.

When BLACK TUSK first hit the streets with their debut EP, ‘When Kingdoms Fall’ in the year 2005, the band had grown out of the Savannah scene but right from the start with their own twist. The three-piece consisting of guitarist Andrew, Athon on bass, and drummer James with all sharing vocal duties added a dash of punk as well as a viscous heaviness and groove to the Savannah school of rock that some critics compared with various stoner and sludge outfits.

Flanked by further EPs, split-singles, and demos, BLACK TUSK steadily expanded both in reach and number of die-hard followers with each successive album, ‘The Fallen Kingdom’ (2007), ‘Passage Through Purgatory’ (2008), ‘Taste the Sin’ (2010), ‘Set the Dial’ (2011), and ‘Pillars of Ash’ (2016). Partly responsible for their success, are the strong live shows of the trio, which garnered early attention on tour with such heavy-weights as BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, DOWN, WEEDEATER, and EYEHATEGOD. Meanwhile the band has toured and performed at most major metal festivals both at home and overseas.

Their latest full-length, ‘Pillars of Ash’ sadly had to appear posthumously for one member as the band had tragically lost their charismatic bass-player Athon through a motorcycle accident. With a heavy heart, BLACK TUSK decided to honour Athon’s memory by carrying on and recruited veteran musician and already long-time friend Corey Barhorst (EX-KYLESA) to take over his duties on the low end.

Now with the 6th studio album ‘TCBT’, which was recorded at The Garage Savannah and mixed by engineer and long-time collaborator Chris “Scary” Adams, BLACK TUSK show the world they lived through the kind of hardship and heartbreak that would cripple a lesser band, but it’s that dedication, gumption, and pure bullheaded stubbornness that took care of business, keeps taking care of business – and Taking Care of Black Tusk.

“Come on and do the toxic waltz. Kick your friend in the head and have a ball.” These words by EXODUS fully apply to ‘Kick Me Silly – VC III’ – the third full-length frontal assault by VENOMOUS CONCEPT

The band was conceived as something like a grind punk supergroup – if that term can even be applied to a bunch of people with clear counter culture preferences. The name was quite obviously chosen to pay homage to the legendary POISON IDEA. At the core of VENOMOUS CONCEPT you will find BRUTAL TRUTH vocalist Kevin Sharp and Shane Embury, the iconic bass guitarist of NAPALM DEATH. The two musicians had bonded over beer and pizza as well as their mutual love of such punk heroes such as BLACK FLAG, SYSTEMATIC DEATH, GBH, SIEGE, and of course the aforementioned POISON IDEA.

The duo soon set about plotting its own assault on the style. Armed with bucket loads of coffee, the pair roped in Danny Herrera of NAPALM DEATH on drums as well as MELVINS guitarist Buzz Osborne. A record deal was signed with Mike Patton and VENOMOUS CONCEPT‘s first album, ‘Retroactive Abortion’ (2004) was followed by a split-CD with Japanese grind band 324 (2006) and another in 2008 with BLÖOD DÜSTER.

Buzz Osborne eventually went on a hiatus, but he never really left and there is always a chance for his return – schedules permitting. Shane switched to guitar, when longtime friend Dan Lilker (BRUTAL TRUTH, NUCLEAR ASSAULT, ex-ANTHRAX) joined on bass. Next, VENOMOUS CONCEPT brought in John Cooke of CORRUPT MORAL ALTAR on second guitar for touring. A second full-length titled ‘Poisoned Apple’ was also released in 2008.

Finally and after too long of a quiet spell, the band decided that it was time for more pizza and beer (cue the A.O.D classic). They got together with a bunch of ideas they had recorded in demo form here and there on tour, and in various smelly rehearsal studios…

VENOMOUS CONCEPT recorded their new forthcoming album during 2014, which sees the band continue in their trademark hardcore punk styles – with the added bonus of compositions by Lilker and Cooke. You will find these fire-starters branching out dynamically in order to perfect their art of grinding rock!

Like a coiled punk rock porcupine OOK is fully charged and ready for attack with ‘Kick Me Silly – VC III’! Kick ass!

MISÞYRMING set release date for new NOEVDIA album

Today, Norma Evangelium Diaboli announces May 24th as the international release date for Misþyrming‘s highly anticipated second album, Algleymi.

Misþyrming hail from Reykjavík, Iceland. Since their formation in 2013, the band have put the Icelandic black metal scene on the international metal map, both with the sterling quality of their sparse-yet-momentous discography thus far as well as their spellbinding live performances across numerous festivals and tours of Europe. Although certain bands within that Icelandic black metal scene have been around slightly longer or have more prolific catalogs, it could be easily argued that Misþyrming are seen as Icelandic black metal’s leading light – or bringers of light, a veritable Lucifer made manifest in white-hot black metal flesh.

Much of this can be attributed to Misþyrming‘s debut album, Söngvar elds og óreiðu. Translated in English as “Songs of fire and chaos,” their debut album was aptly titled, and soon became a modern classic in the worldwide black metal scene, with its tentacles of influence eventually stretching beyond the underground. And understandably so, for its punishing and wrathful sound betrayed a uniquely melodic aspect that sacrificed no amount of infernal power so intrinsic to true black metal. As such, Söngvar elds og óreiðu landed 9th place on Noisey’s Top 100 albums of the year, outranking artists like their fellow Icelander Björk. The vinyl edition of Söngvar elds og óreiðusold out within two days and has been highly demanded by fans ever since, regardless of numerous repressings. In 2016, Metal Hammer – Europe’s biggest metal magazine – named Misþyrming as one of the Top 10 Icelandic bands.
But these accolades matter little, if at all, to Misþyrming. Ever restless but wisely patient in their creations, the full fruit of their artistic labor has now arrived with the stark and startlingly accomplished Algleymi. At once logically following from Söngvar elds og óreiðu whilst treading brave new paths, Misþyrming’s sophomore album is a kaleidoscopic worldwide of maverick black metal, Icelandic or otherwise. It retains for the relentless brutality of its debut predecessor while exhibiting a simultaneously taut and free-flowing muscularity. Similarly, the band’s bold melodicism has reached a grandiose new level here, as haunting atmospheres meld with properly anthemic elements, exhibiting space and shade with equal rapture. And that’s all to say nothing of the album’s production; recorded & mixed by the band at the Icelandic Black Metal HQ and mastered by the esteemed Jamie Gomez Arellano at Orgone Studios, Misþyrming here exhibit a swaggering professionalism that’s undeniably powerful and frankly unchallenged. From blasphemous ceremonies to a total rejection of humanity, Algleymi above all displays a maturity that safely evades the negative connotations otherwise associated with that word, especially within a black metal context.

“Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law,” and indeed do Misþyrming pursue that creed here – with a vengeance, unfettered and frightening. Adorned with cover art courtesy of the masterful Manuel Tinnemans,  Misþyrming have delivered another Great Work for the ages with Algleymi.

Full-album stream to be revealed during week of release. Preorder info can be found HERE at Norma Evangelium Diaboli‘s Bandcamp.

When Abbath announced that he had left IMMORTAL, it sent massive shockwaves through the metal scene. The iconic frontman had long become the “face” of the Norwegian black scene, his image synonymous with the genre. Upon releasing his debut album with his eponymous new band, ABBATH, in 2016, trve fans were satiated with a dose of icy, blackened fury.

Now, the Norwegian giant returns for round two, armed with a refined lineup and ready to strike with a sophomore effort that is sure to once again exceed the expectations of Abbath’s loyal fanbase. ‘Outstrider’ sees a maturation in sound, delivering a tighter, well-rounded offering from the band as they come into their own identity.

While there are moments that certainly channel the frosty hallmarks of IMMORTAL, there is no danger of ABBATH repeating that formula. ABBATH draws from NWOBM and melodic influences, adding a fresh new flavor to the sound that the band’s founder came to define.

‘Oustrider’ consists of eight, crushing original songs and concludes with a fiery BATHORY cover. The album promises a full-on aural assault from start to finish with frigid riffage and a robust pocket that are layered with vocals from one of the most identifiable voices in black metal. If you thought ABBATH came in hot with their last record, just wait until you hear this!

Colombian black metal cult Daemoni premiere new track

Today, Colombian black metal cult Daemoni premiere the new track
Abstersion’s Rite :
The track hails from the band’s long-awaited second album, Black Tyrant, set for international release on the symbolic date of June 6th via Goathorned Productions.

Hailing from Bogotá, Daemoni formed in 2009 and feature members who’ve cut a wide path in the Colombian extreme metal scene, including such bands as Horncrowned, Nosferatu, Divine Prophanity, Inoculation, and Disenterror among others. Biding their time patiently, the band made their first public recording with their debut album, Stillborn Redeemer, in 2011. No need for a demo, Daemoni burst into the underground with cold, iron-fisted malice here: Stillborn Redeemer tellingly featured a cover of Dark Funeral’s “Shadows Over Transylvania,” used with permission from Lord Ahriman, and suitably did the album brim with an ancient fire.

Years would pass, but Daemoni continued to be a force on the live front, supporting Colombian shows by such luminaries as Mayhem, Suffocation, Dark Funeral, Krisiun, and Vader among others, with 2018 bringing the band’s first European show in Madrid, Spain. Alas, the time to strike again is upon us and Daemoni eclipse the freezing fire of their debut with Black Tyrant. A more finessed ‘n’ focused work, Black Tyrant exudes an air of professionalism and daresay “maturity” that thankfully never threaten to neuter the primeval fury at the heart of Daemoni‘s aesthetic. Indeed, the album is aptly titled, for the band’s songwriting has reached a masterful level, wholly matching the more muscular aspect that guides these eight underworld hymns. Each instrument is clearly heard, robust but blood-red; the quintet are in the throes of demonical possession, but still retain a tightness of execution. And after 40 furious, fiery minutes, the listener shall likewise reach a state of demonical possession with Black Tyrant.

Graced with masterful artwork by Jenglot Hitam, at long last does Black Tyrant arrive, for black and tyrannical is Daemoni‘s reign!

DENIAL OF GOD to release new EP via OSMOSE and HELLS HEADBANGERS

At long last, legendary black metallers Denial of God return with a special mini-album titled The Shapeless Mass! Set to be jointly released by Osmose Productions and Hells Headbangers on June 28th, The Shapeless Mass will be the long-running band’s first new recording since 2012’s Death and the Beyond. To say that it’s highly anticipated and very long overdue would be quite the understatement!

By now, Denial of God should need little introduction. Since that fateful year of 1991, the brothers Azter and Ustumallagam have perfected an idiosyncratic style of black metal that’s positively drenched in the supernatural and remains firm in their conviction of more classicist-styled songwriting. In fact, “black metal” might even be a misnomer; rather, BLACK HORROR METAL would be more accurate.

Nevertheless, as the years have gone on and they wisely parcel out their releases, each Denial of God record is special, and The Shapeless Mass is no exception. Arguably the band’s most violent and intense recording, The Shapeless Mass takes the listener down many horrific paths – and epic ones, too, as the four-song mini-album totals 26 minutes! First up is “The Shapeless Mass,” which will also feature on their upcoming third album, The Hallow Mass, and here tells the legend of the Golem of Prague. Next is “The Statues Are Watching,” re-recording of the title track from the 1995 debut vinyl 7″, now played with the power of the by-now-classic lineup of Ustumallagam, Azter, and Galheim but still remaining frighteningly close in spirit and feel to the original version. Honoring their roots, the band also deliver a reverential cover of Bathory’s “Call From the Grave,” but far more surprising is the cover of Exuma’s “Mama Loi, Papa Loi”: unusual, yes, but it still makes sense in the dark world of Denial of God and has been very much made their own here.

Now, only the wait remains for The Hallow Mass – even more epic horror awaits! First track from The Shapeless Mass to be revealed shortly. Preorder info can be found HERE and HERE. Cover and tracklisting are as follows:
