Finnish black metal mystics Aethyrick premiere new track

Today, Finnish black metal mystics Aethyrick premiere the new track “Stellar Flesh”. The track hails from the band’s highly anticipated second album, Gnosis, set for international release on January 24th via The Sinister Flame. Hear Aethyrick‘s “Stellar Flesh” in its entirety here:
Formed by Gall and Exile on the winter solstice 2016, Aethyrick‘s medium is black metal, methods uncomplicated and motives unknown. The Finnish duo proved their potency during the closing days of 2018 with their first full-length. Duly titled Praxis, indeed did it brim with a mysticism and magick that was simultaneously aeons-old and strikingly modern. A new classic in some circles but seemingly overlooked by the rest of the novelty-choked public, Praxis nevertheless laid firm a foundation upon which Aethyrick would most surely weave ever-more-grandiose spells.

“Magick isn’t simply something you do,” sagely says Exile, “it is what you must gradually BECOME.” Thus, witness: Aethyrick‘s second full-length spell, Gnosis. Immediately and recognizably Aethyrick from the very first notes to the ever-resounding last, Gnosis is a deceptively subtle spin in relation to its predecessor Praxis. In fact, one could almost argue that Gnosis‘ embrace is a warmer, more comforting one, its hanging ‘n’ somber melodicism pulling on the heartstrings in unusual (and some would say “uncomfortable”) ways. But, pull back this no-doubt-passionate development and one finds stark ‘n’ glittering BLACK METAL suffused with the same mysticism and magick that so endeared Praxis to the intrepid and intractable. More pointedly, Aethyrick‘s songwriting here has developed piecemeal layers that paradoxically lay even barer their stargazing, wanderlusting aims. It’s obsidian sonics for dreamers and rogues, theorists and realists. And it’s still 1000% black metal of a proudly purist stripe, for the duo of Gall and Exile choose to work within the idiom rather than without.

Time and again, charlatans and careerists have sought the latter route, their ruse – intended or not – fooling themselves and also so many of the said public. Aethyrick‘s eyes are wide open, their minds and hearts in kind, for they have seen Truth and borne witness to its liberating powers into The Beyond. And yet, this is but one mere step on their journey – fall into their stride with Gnosis!

Begin falling into that stride with the previously revealed “Oneiric Portals” HERE at the Black Metal Promotion YouTube channel.

ENTHRONED is surely a name black metal fans are no strangers to. Over the course of the last 25 years, they have pushed the boundaries of black metal and the deepness of the Left Hand Path philosophy further within. The quintet has channelled that dedication into their newest record. ‘Cold Black Suns’ is a dark and crushing black metal album where cold riffing, blood chilling atmospheres, and ritualistic drumming are keys to forging their most mature and accomplished opus to date.

The band, who crawled out of the black lands of Belgium in 1993, inked their first contract less than a year after its formation, and recorded debut album ‘Prophecies of Pagan Fire,’ which is now considered an all-time classic in the genre.

By then known as The Blackened Horde to fans and the scene at large, ENTHRONED recruited guitarist Nornagest and within 2 years entered Hautregard Studios to give birth to their second album. After the recording, tragedy struck and founding member and drummer Cernunnos (1997) took his own life.

The band went on to record the album using Cernunnos’s drum tracks from rehearsal recordings which were recorded by long time friend Da Cardoen, from the Belgian band ASPHYXIA. ‘Towards the Skullthrone of Satan’ was thus born. Since then, ENTHRONED went on to tour the world and have released a total of 10 full-lengths, one live album, and a hearty handful of splits and EPs.

Now, as the band celebrates 26 years as one of black metal’s premier outfits, they are ready to unleash number 11 onto the masses. ‘Cold Black Suns’ is an icy, brutal offering from the band that will see a worldwide release on June 7, 2019 via Season of Mist, making it their debut to the label. This is the band’s first album in five years, following up 2014’s critically acclaimed ‘Sovereigns.’

‘Cold Black Suns’ is one of 2019’s most anticipated releases and is certain to hold up to the hype that surrounds it, delivering an evolved and crushing offering from Belgium’s own black metal legends.

MALIGNAMENT to release debut demo on vinyl thru PURITY THROUGH FIRE

Today, Purity Through Fire sets January 31st, 2020 as the international release date for Malignament‘s debut Demo I on 12″ vinyl format.

One of the most powerful demos Purity Through Fire has come across in recent years, Malignament‘s Demo I puts most official/regular-length releases to shame in sheer songwriting prowess and furious, full-throttle execution. Not much is known about this band, other than that they hail from Finland. And while bearing some/many traits for which Finnish black metal is known/renown, Malignament offer a more overtly muscular and most definitely more triumphant aspect than that scene’s characteristic freezing fire. In fact, the dizzying/mesmerizing melodicism that poignantly pushes each of these three tracks onward is a unique trait unto itself, when paired with such a roiling ‘n’ robust soundfield. Above all, the duo drive deeply into the fundamentals of black metal and reside there – and there alone – never varying in their dedication or sidestepping into more miscegenated waters: simply, the purest and proudest all-caps BLACK METAL, no more but definitely no less.

Demo I is but the start of Malignament‘s march, so beware or be gone! Hear the original demo it in its entirety here:

BLOOD SPORE set release date for BLOOD HARVEST debut EP, reveal first track

Today, Blood Harvest Records sets February 28th, 2020 as the international release date for Blood Spore‘s striking debut EP, Fungal Warfare Upon All Life, on CD, 12″ vinyl, and cassette tape formats.

Blood Spore are a four-piece extreme metal act that spawned in Philadelphia in the human year 2018. The band came together under the unifying vision of the ancient, immortal, conscious fungal mass that is hellbent on consuming and repurposing all life that roosts upon the Earth.

With almost preternatural ease, Blood Spore combine pummeling death metal with somatic doom, chaotic black metal, and malevolently more to create a highly dynamic, ever-evil sound to stomp on rotted skulls to. In just one year, the band made several vicious offerings upon the stage supporting their initially self-released debut EP Fungal Warfare Upon All Life. So impressed by that EP, Blood Harvest  simply had to release it on a worldwide scale.

Now aligning forces with Blood Harvest  – seemingly, a match made in Hell – Blood Spore will release their imminent debut album through the label in the coming year. In the meantime, they continue to lure swaths of humans to the fungal altar with an alluring trance soaked in death. Pulling influence from science fiction and mycology, Blood Spore paint horrifying images of the impending assault on the living with poisonous tendrils dripping with infected blood. Fungal Warfare Upon All Life is just the start – beware!

NECROGOSTO set release date for new NUCLEAR WAR NOW! mini-album, reveal first track

Today, Nuclear War Now! Productions sets March 15th, 2020 as the international release date for Necrogosto‘s highly anticipated new mini-album, Ancestral Bestiality, on 12″ vinyl format.

With its initial self-titled demo from 2017, Necrogosto introduced itself as a cult worthy of the rich Brazilian metal underground that its forefathers had pioneered decades earlier. Recalling the savagery invoked by its fellow countrymen in such fabled bands as Sarcofago, Sextrash, Necrobutcher, and Expulser, Necrogosto proved that it is indeed possible to recapture the sound and spirit of one of the most historically significant scenes to have ever impacted extreme metal.

Now, two years later and approximately one year since Nuclear War Now! reissued the demo, the same label and band conspire to bring us Necrogosto’s next atrocity, Ancestral Bestiality, an eight-track MLP that confirms the authenticity in style and sound first displayed on the demo. Like the preceding demo, these new tracks harken back to a particular time and place where the boundaries between the existing subgenres of metal were blurred, making clear distinctions between black and death metal difficult and somewhat futile to discern. Ancestral Bestiality succeeds in resurrecting this blend of styles that came to be known uniquely as Brazilian “deathcore,” which is not to be confused with the abomination to which the term is commonly applied today.

Like its inspirations from over 30 years ago, this recording is steeped in both the barbarity of primitive death metal and the evil of first-wave black metal, which in itself shared more characteristics of thrash than its more contemporary offshoot. This amalgam of influences, in combination with Necrogosto’s mutated interpretation of them, is what leads to the band’s unique variety of “satanic black noise.” Perhaps most emblematic of this concoction is “Intoxication and Ecstasy,” a track with clear parallels in composition and execution to Sarcofago’s infamous I.N.R.I. album.

However, where Necrogosto at times revisits the themes of chaos, demons, blasphemies and profanity, as done so masterfully by its forbearers, it also breaks this mold by including motifs like pre-Columbian evilness, mysticism, and historical anticolonial resistance. The result is one that both pays reverence to its ancestors and also drives the previously-established sound into new arenas, transforming Ancestral Bestiality from a reflection of a bygone era into a document of a new form of evil incarnated.

In the meantime, hear the new track “Serpent of 1000 Eyes” here:
Cover and tracklisting are as follows:
Tracklisting for Necrogosto’s Ancestral Bestiality 1. Ancient Demoniacal Proclamation (Intro) 2. Serpent of 1000 Eyes

GOATS OF DOOM set release date for new PURITY THROUGH FIRE album, reveal first track

Today, Purity Through Fire sets January 31st, 2020 as the international release date for Goats of Doom‘s highly anticipated fifth album, Tie on Hänen Omilleen, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats.

Despite a somewhat misleading moniker, Goats of Doom are 100% black metal through and through, and one of the Finnish underground’s best-kept secrets. And yet, compared to the filthy recesses of their native contemporaries, Goats of Doom specialize in a sleek and alluringly melodic sort of black metal – no less aggressive, but with the emphasis on mysticism and melody.

Goats of Doom was founded in 2008 by Scaregod and Inasnum. Three full-lengths eventually followed in 2012, 2015, and 2017 with this lineup; in this iteration, the band was more synth-based black metal, but not strictly “symphonic black metal” by definition. Expanded to a trio for their fourth album, 2018’s Rukous, Goats of Doom displayed a new face, where the mysterious atmosphere of old was shot through with more surging aggression and bewitching melody: in essence, a melodic blizzard, if you will. Expanding their lineup yet again to a full five-piece, fittingly, fifth album Tie on Hänen Omilleen sees the band bringing together all their eras while embarking upon yet another new journey.

Very much retaining the characteristically Finnish melancholy of its well-received predecessor, on Tie on Hänen Omilleen do Goats of Doom bring forth a more regal touch – never be too saccharine, of course, but with an almost-medieval style of melodicism – that burns with the same icy-hot touch they’ve made their own these past dozen years. Synths make a subtle return here, as well, but are transposed onto a rougher ‘n’ raw soundfield, grinding these no-less-melodic ruminations deeply into the dirt. Similarly, more “rocking” tropes also make an entrance here, with the sum total of Tie on Hänen Omilleen thus residing in a unique netherworld of nightsky mysticism, alcohol-fueled anger, and a still-perfect balance between grit and gleam, mystery and muscle. Or, simply, once again do these Goats craft unmistakably Finnish black metal that both defines and defies this ever-vibrant scene.

GREVE set release date for PURITY THROUGH FIRE debut album, reveal first track – features members of BEKËTH NEXËHMÜ, MUSMAHHU, AZELISASSATH+++

Today, Purity Through Fire sets January 31st, 2020 as the international release date for Greve‘s highly anticipated debut album, Nordarikets Strid, on CD format.

As prefaced by Nidingsdåd utav det uråldriga EP released earlier in 2019 by Purity Through Fire, Greve exclusively play classic, second-wave Swedish black metal – which should come as no surprise considering it comes under the banner of Ancient Records linchpin Swartadauþuz (Azelisassath, Bekëth Nexëhmü, Digerdöden, Gnipahålan, Musmahhu, Mystik, Summum, Trolldom, Daudadagr), here joined by vocalist Lik of Bekëth Nexëhmü renown. Much like most/all of Swartadauþuz’s projects are blessed with an intrinsically ancient sound, authentic and austere as the age-old classics from which his imagination sprung, so too does Greve with a breathtakingly spectral ‘n’ stargazing style of black metal mysticism.

That aforementioned EP was a two-song (and all-too-short) display of their mystical mastery, but at last arrives Greve‘s first full-length, Nordarikets Strid. Taking those same tantalizing rudiments of Nidingsdåd utav det Uråldriga but spreading them across an eight-song/41-minute landscape, the duo’s canvas here is dense yet spacious, racing yet floating, dreams both darkest and most majestic, bringing 1996 to the present like so few records can. Indeed, it’s Atmospheric Black Metal Art (Exclusively) for dreamers and lone wolves alike, a monument by which to launch journeys to the stars and/or into the self: verily, cosmic keys to Greve‘s creations and times. But even within such staunchly structured/strictured classicism resides a wealth of breathtaking songwriting that further adds to this ever-enduring idiom rather than simply picking at the bones of its carcass. Or, but one need only say that Nordarikets Strid is MAGICK willed into sonic form.

Black metal of this ilk may’ve largely died long ago, but Greve‘s sumptuous swell across Nordarikets Strid stands strong, its vision boundless, its appeal timeless. The past is most definitely more alive than ever!

Vreid participate in “Songs That Changed the World” project

Norwegian Black & Roll veterans VREID have announced their participation in the “Songs That Changed the World” project by the Nobel Peace Center and Inferno Metal Festival. The band will be commissioned to interpret and cover a song about freedom of expression. The song is yet to be determined. VREID will perform this special song and their own material during a show at the Nobel Peace Center on April 7, 2020.

Founder and bass player Hváll comments: “In VREID we have always been up for new challenges. It was therefore with huge excitement we took on this task when Inferno Metal Festival and Nobel Peace Center challenged us to do our interpretation of a song that changed the world. Freedom of speech has been relevant since the very beginning of rock, and is just as relevant and important today. A lot has changed since rock ‘n’ roll was new and rebellious in the 60s, but still today the freedom of speech are controversial and debated, so maybe the world has been at a stand still over the last 60 years. We are thankful for the engagement. VREID looks forward to dig deep into the rock history of many fantastic songs, and will be ready to perform our song at the Nobel Peace Center in April.”

More information on the Nobel Peace Center can be found HERE. Inferno Metal Festival will take place on April 9 – 12, in Oslo, Norway. Find more information on the festival HERE.
VREID released their latest full length ‘Lifehunger’ in September 2018. Listen to the full album HERE. The artwork can be viewed below, together with the album details.

VREID were formed in 2004. The Norwegian metal brigade rose from the ashes of WINDIR after the tragic perishing of the “Sognametal” legends with the declared mission of exploring new musical paths.

The Norsemen proved true to their words and have so far delivered 7 albums and one DVD, which each received high praise from critics and fans alike. VREID chose a course of constant evolution that is marked by thematically denoted phases regarding their often historically inspired lyrics.

This became particularly clear with albums ‘I Krig’ (2007) and ‘Milorg’ (2009), which both revolved around concepts dealing with resistance and liberation of Norway during World War II. With their following three records, VREID returned to their Norse roots, especially on latest full-length, ‘Sólverv’ which received high critical acclaim in 2015.

VREID have hammered out their success partly by being a heavily touring band. The four-piece performed more than 500 shows in 25 countries so far. Their everlasting march to conquer new territories has led the Norwegians to headline tours in Europe, North America, Japan, and India.

VREID‘s style is often referred to as black ‘n roll and Metal Hammer UK described their music as “a unique time travel in metal” as elements of 70’s rock, 80’s classic metal, and Norwegian black metal are all clearly audible.

Now with eighth album ‘Lifehunger’, black ‘n roll is back! With eight brand new tracks, VREID are ready for the next chapter.

PRIMEVAL MASS set release date for new KATOPTRON IX album, reveal first track

On February 21st, 2020, Katoptron IX Records is proud to present Primeval Mass‘ highly anticipated fourth album, Nine Altars. The summation of a long-brewing journey since the dawn of this millennium, Nine Altars is the album by which Primeval Mass will etch their name into modern legendry. Boundlessly creative and breathlessly executed, boldly does Nine Altars span generations and idioms like few other records past and especially present. Primeval Mass light the fires of creation and destruction!

Spawned in early 2000 by multi-instrumentalist Orth, Primeval Mass was formed to deliver aggressive, occult metal music. With strong influences from the first and second waves of black metal wave, European and American thrash from the ’80s, the classic heavy metal sound (NWOBHM, early US power metal) and other music styles outside this music such as progressive rock, Primeval Mass forged a personal, recognizable sound whilst honoring those very same influences. Those names include the likes of Bathory, Voivod, Destruction, Coroner, Hallow’s Eve, The Black, Absu, Possessed, Slayer, Mercyful Fate, Angel Witch, Venom, Stormwitch, Exciter, Iron Maiden, and Rush, all of which remain Orth’s favorites to this day.

Primeval Mass‘ first period (2000-2009) included three demos and one full-length (As Solemn Maelstrom…, 2009) of raw, straightforward black metal, declaring the band’s presence to the underground black metal scene. The lineup changes combined with the strong desire to create something different than the Maelstrom record delayed the follow-up album, which finally appeared in late 2012, thus commencing the second period of Primeval Mass. Blood Breathing Idols was the album responsible for some new standards for Primeval Mass and the record which still combines all the elements from all the band’s periods. The diverse combination of raw black metal and technical heavy/thrash fed immense inspiration for the creation of To Empyrean Thrones, the most successful Primeval Mass record to date. The album recordings completed in late 2014 but wasn’t released until early 2016.

Taking again some time off and committed to creating the absolute Primeval Mass record, Orth’s plan became certain the next year when a long road of will-power challenges, spiritual alignment, and strict dedication to the cause took place, making clear that the plan was indeed on track. Entering Ignite studio in Athens with sleepless nights and countless hours of processing, the master for Nine Altars was finally delivered during the autumn of 2019. This is the darkest, most intense and energetic, emotionally charged Primeval Mass record: the absolute and most different one. More than ever before, the techno-thrash face is dominant when technique is used solely to underline the desired feelings and appropriate artistic expression. This is the record to once again set new standards for Primeval Mass: stride forward to their Nine Altars!
