Forged out of the cursed landscape of Rhode Island, American black metal quartet Black Sorcery brings forth a new EP release titled Plummeting Into the Hour of the Wolf. Cold and foreboding, caustic, frenzied, and bound by somber introspection and destructive impulse, this latest work is a testament to the raw spirit of traditional black metal and remains devoted to the obscured paths of the genre’s unspoiled past. The three tracks are marked by themes of desperation, solitude, perversion, moral decay, and the loss of self in the suffocating darkness of existence – an unforgiving internal labyrinth of shattered mirrors where illumination is obtained through the talisman of suffering and pleasure realized in the ecstasy of willful damnation.

Black Sorcery‘s celebrated debut album, Deciphering Torment Through Malediction, last summer certainly raised the bar for New England black metal and American black metal in general, harkening to the ancient days of such labels as Sombre, A.M.S.G., and Drakkar Productions. Featuring more epic songwriting that always retains energy and urgency, as well as a pronounced emphasis on no-less-frenzied melancholy, Plummeting Into the Hour of the Wolf further displays Black Sorcery‘s ever-growing strengths, once again given a powerful push through Enormous Door’s mastering.

BLACK SORCERY stream ETERNAL DEATH debut album – features members of BOG OF THE INFIDEL, SANGUS, NEFARIOUS+++

Today, ancient black metallers Black Sorcery stream the entirety of their highly anticipated debut album, Deciphering Torment Through Malediction. Set for international release on July 28th via Eternal Death, hear Black Sorcery‘s Deciphering Torment Through Malediction in its entirety here:

Rooted in two decades of Rhode Island black metal lineage – with members hailing from past bands Bog of the Infidel, Sangus, Nefarious, and Sorcery – America’s Black Sorcery emerged out of the plague days of early 2020. Fittingly for such origins, the quartet play a consciously regressive style of music that rejects the bloated aesthetics of most modern American black metal and embraces the arcane forms of the past. Whether it’s the paradigmatic early days of Gorgoroth or the contemporaneous turn-of-the-millennium work of Behexen and Satanic Warmaster serving as the aesthetic foundation, Black Sorcery truly sound like they do not belong to this decade nor this country.

Crude and rude but not without a sense of regal refinement, the band’s Deciphering Torment Through Malediction debut album storms right out of the gate and leaves little to the imagination: this is all-caps BLACK METAL forged in the fires of old and tempered with the patience of longtime zealots. Each song of this 40-minute work combines cold, somber melodies with raw, visceral aggression in an unapologetic homage to the early waves of black metal. No matter the tempo – rippingly fast, folklorish downshift, hypnotic pulse – Black Sorcery keep proceedings orkish and medieval, such as they were back in the glorious times of Sombre, A.M.S.G., and Drakkar Productions. Form meeting content, their lyrical expression revolves around the themes of torment and mutually-assured destruction in the form of curses wrung from a severe disdain towards all human life, and butchered rituals performed in the heat of pure resentment, resulting in one’s own self-destruction: the ouroboros of esoteric failure and abysmal ruin. And all these ripped-raw tones are rendered all the more powerful with mastering courtesy of Enormous Door.

No more but definitely no less, Black Sorcery‘s Deciphering Torment Through Malediction is pure black metal for pure black metal people!

BLACK SORCERY: stream their sophomore album Wolven Degrade

Canadian repulsive war metal collective THE BLACK SORCERY made their arrival notorious with the 2018 debut album, …and the Beast Spake Death from Above. Today, the Edmonton based troop unleash the second album, Wolven Degrade, on CD via Krucyator Productions and on vinyl via Appalachian Noise Records.

The Black Sorcery have not limited their obscenity by only waving the flag of Canadian war metal legacy, they have built new pillars to strengthen the usual sonic paradigm of the sub-genre — with the help of grim black metal influences, maniacal guttural nastiness and piercing screams.

Lörd Matzigkeitus, the vocalist explains: “‘Wolven Degrade’ is the auditory warfare of pure, unfeigned anger. As a whole, it’s themes are that of deflowering peace, processing violation, ruinous existence and nature clawing back unto her dirtly folds all weak creatures for their transgressions. The music on this, our second genocide, is a cohesive front of total slaughter. Parageist, Ghast and Månas Reaver function in ungodly furies that few in metal can match. This album was made with only the catharsis of grenade-like rage in its heart, with no consideration of the appraisal of mankind.”

The repugnant artwork completed by Jenglot Hitam
