BASTARD NOISE set release date for ARMAGEDDON LABEL album

Today, Armageddon Label announces June 30th as the international release date for a brand-new album from the singular Bastard Noise, Incineration Prayer / Self Righteous Suicide, on vinyl LP format.

There is refuge in sound, especially when it collides with the critical human spirit. In desperate times (as the world is facing even more fervently), sound can truly be a weapon of awareness. Nothing makes this case more “black and white” and apparent than the most recent full-length by Bastard NoiseIncineration Prayer / Self Righteous Suicide.

Created exclusively with organic handmade ROARAFC caveman electronics (built by Barnes of Man is the Bastard, Bastard Noise, and Amps for Christ), “Incineration Prayer” (Side A of the album) is a dire message to take heed that the earth mother is bleeding and turning into a furnace at the hands of “mancruel.” Full-blown cosmic attack and next-level desperation-based vocals/lyrics that reflect the power of nature rebelling in the face of death: “Incineration Prayer” is a single cutting-edge, long-form composition that sees hope in danger and crisis.

“Self Righteous Suicide” (Side B of the album) spans four separate tracks of sound and vision highlighting without regret the endless misery the animals of the world face at the hand of dirty, ignorant, and selfish humans. Using TROGOTRONIC electronics solely on this side, the listener is brought to the “front lines” of animal liberation consciousness and the “David vs. Goliath”-based existence we face every day at the hands of the global factory-farm “murder machine.” “Self Righteous Suicide” is a humble B Side statement that “rocks the boat” for all (even the unwilling) to see and hear.

This a complex and destitute (in its attack-based violence) sound document that pushes low-end energy and visceral, naked high frequencies into the red. It is dedicated to all who help heal the earth and for those incarcerated for liberating sentient beings across the world in vivisection laboratories, factory farms, and fur farms.

PUKEWRAITH to have debut album released on vinyl by BLOOD HARVEST – features members of GUTVOID, FUMES, SOUL DEVOURMENT+++

Today, Blood Harvest Records announces July 14th as the international release date for Pukewraith‘s highly anticipated debut album, Banquet of Scum, on vinyl LP format.

Sporting one of the best monikers around, Pukewraith is a solo-project of Brendan Dean, erstwhile vocalist/guitarist of Blood Harvest titans Gutvoid as well as a handful of other bands that currently includes Fumes, Soul Devourment, Wexler’s Prime, Alucard, and Simulcra. Obviously, the man is super-busy as well as -talented, and while those talents run the metallic gamut (with an obvious affection for death metal), Pukewraith is naturally his most traditionally gore-soaked work. The last couple years have seen an EP, split, and single, and finally the band’s first full-length, Banquet of Scum.

Released late last year on CD, Pukewraith‘s Banquet of Scum is now finally finding a fitting vinyl release courtesy of Blood Harvest. While there’s undoubtedly some links shared with his stellar work in Gutvoid – namely, the all-consuming sense of devourment, be it physical or spiritual – here does Dean hit with a straightforward pulse ‘n’ crush not unlike early Grave, Hypocrisy, and Sinister, all tempered with well-timed downtempo breakdowns and a bevy of mind-melted solos. And while Gutvoid‘s muse lately has been trending toward the cosmos, Pukewraith fittingly stick to the sewers, plumbing the depths of gore and depravity with relish and, daresay, fun; not for nothing is the album titled Banquet of Scum. Cruise with the Gravesmasher and begin feasting again – or for the first time – with Blood Harvest‘s new vinyl edition, which includes an exclusive bonus track!

Stream the original album in its entirety here:

Preorder info can be found HERE. Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

COFFIN MULCH set release date for MEMENTO MORI debut, reveal first track

In their endless quest to push and support current underground acts that deliver the goods unaware of trends and hypes, on June 30th internationally, Memento Mori is proud to present Coffin Mulch‘s highly anticipated debut album, Spectral Intercession.

Hailing from Scotland, Coffin Mulch formed in 2018 and quickly set to work on their debut demo, Coffin Mulch, which was released a year later. Two years later came the Septic Funeral EP, both of which have garnered widespread acclaim in the death metal underground. Although undeniably a DEATH METAL band, the quartet come from a diverse musical background, having played in a variety of different bands throughout the years, but started Coffin Mulch to play old-school, heavy & pounding death metal influenced by late ’80s / early ’90s gods like Entombed, Autopsy, Massacre, Death, and Bolt Thrower. They’re all punks at heart, though, and the DIY ethic and aesthetic is just as important to them as the tunes.

And “tunes” they indeed have across their full-length debut, Spectral Intercession. With gutted tones just on the right side of raw and a horrifying intro to set the scene, Coffin Mulch lurch and crunch forward with ominous intent. Each of the album’s eight tracks offers ample proof of the potency of traditional, turn-of-the-’90s death metal – especially so, when it’s done with this much passion and intensity. Indeed, no matter the tempo employed (and quite often, the band stick to a headbanging gallop), Coffin Mulch make you feel every mangled riff, every ragged drum-hit, every tortured tonsil…the songwriting may be simple, but it’s not simplistic, and it’s their execution that truly puts over Spectral Intercession. Nevertheless, they’re not afraid to put a little twist here and there, whether it’s a fleeting (and subtly employed) guitar effect or an intentionally askew transition, and the rare guitar solo really hits with soul-searing aplomb. Or witness the eerie, climactic closer “Eternal Enslavement,” where a doomed morass opens up and swallows the listener whole.

There’s no shortage of “old school” death metal records these days, but it’s rare to find one with such personality that’s unselfconscious and not belabored. Coffin Mulch find that sweet spot with Spectral Intercession!

In the meantime, hear the brand-new track “Into the Blood” here:

Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

Tracklisting for Coffin Mulch’s Spectral Intercession

SERPENT CORPSE set release date for TEMPLE OF MYSTERY debut, reveal first track

Today, Temple of Mystery Records announces July 5th as the international release date for Serpent Corpse‘s striking debut album, Blood Sabbath, on CD and vinyl LP formats

Hailing from the ever-rising Montreal death metal scene, Serpent Corpse are at once foreign and familiar. Blood Sabbath, their full-length debut following a demo in 2021, on first glance feels resolutely old school: straightforward songwriting, analog production, little flash but full fire. And indeed, Serpent Corpse do show noble influence from the very early ’90s – foremost among them, the world-eating enormity of classic Bolt Thrower and vigorous D-beating of early Entombed – but along with another set of tweaked influences and, more so, a maniacal manner in which to pursue them, the Canadian quartet prove that the idea of traditional all-caps DEATH METAL is undying and infinite. The further one steps into the ichor of Blood Sabbath, the more those tweaks take shape – Darkthrone during their death metal days, Seance skewing death ‘n’ roll, the DM-in-glue of classic Cianide, or especially Autopsy’s transition into Abscess – and the more the exemplary songwriting truly begins to shine…or ROT, as it were! For this nine-song/39-minute album sounds as slimy as it does headbanging – and those singed ‘n’ seared leads are the definition of haunting! Coupled with powerfully clear annunciation from vocalist/guitarist Andrew Haddad and mesmerizing cover art courtesy of Lucas Korte, Serpent Corpse deliver one of the most essential death metal debuts of recent memory. A festering death awaits!

In the meantime, hear the brand-new track “Nemesis” here:

Serpent Corpse will be playing an album-release party on July 15th  at La Sotterenea in Montreal; event info can be found HERE. Aforementioned cover art and tracklisting are as follows:

KAAL AKUMA stream new NUCLEAR WINTER EP

On April 28th internationally, Nuclear Winter Records will release a brand-new EP from Kaal AkumaTuriya, on CD and cassette tape formats. And today, they stream the EP in its entirety. Hear Kaal Akuma‘s Turiya in its entirety here:

Kaal Akuma are a death metal band from the crypts of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Formed in late 2018, the power-trio lean towards a more atmospheric approach to the music while keeping their OSDM influences intact. Their lyrical philosophy includes personalized philosophy in the way of psychological horror, Mayan mythology, misanthropy, death, and darkness. Since their formation, they’ve performed in several live gigs throughout the country, where their evil ambietic sound gained a cult following.

During the spring of 2021, Kaal Akuma released their celebrated debut album, In the Mouth of Madness, and now follow that up with a swift-yet-satisfying EP titled Turiya. Picking up where that full-length left off, the three-song/21-minute Turiya sees the hydra-headed trio continuing to explore epic song lengths whilst keeping the energy at suffocating levels. Their attack hammers and slithers with equal aplomb, and even when rhythms get twisted into angular shapes, their forward propulsion punishes the listener with no small amount of crush and cruelty. Here, Kaal Akuma have become especially adept at eerie, oft-hypnotic breakdowns that instill a tantalizing sense of repose that heightens the tension before the next shapeshifting onslaught of sound. Best of all, perhaps, Turiya retains an earthy, authentically analog sound, proving that Kaal Akuma are truly cut from an ancient cloth.

Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

Tracklisting for Kaal Akuma’s Turiya
1. Ego Death [8:22]
2. Tiyanak [4:49]
3. Ignorance is Bliss [7:47]

Italy’s VALGRIND stream new MEMENTO MORI album

Today, Italian death metallers Valgrind stream the entirety of their highly anticipated fifth album, Millennium of Night Bliss. Set for international release on April 24th via Memento Mori, hear Valgrind‘s Millennium of Night Bliss in its entirety here:

By now, those who follow the dark deeds of Memento Mori should be well familiar with Italy’s Valgrind. Despite forming all the way back in 1996 and releasing three demos and an EP before going on hiatus in 2002, it was the 2012 debut album Morning Will Come No More where Valgrind kicked off their activities – and there’s been no looking back. With steadfast dependability and ever-so-slight “progression” each time, these Italians have quietly become stalwarts of classics-minded death metal that isn’t completely blinkered by the past. Yes, their influences largely remain the same – foundational Morbid Angel, Pestilence, Death, Nocturnus, Possessed, Monstrosity, and Immolation – but Valgrind have increasingly sought their own muse, becoming more personal in lyrical approach whilst keeping their attack trend-free DEATH METAL.

But if 2020’s Memento Mori-released Condemnation signaled a sea-change for Valgrind – an undeniably “something,” a never-belabored uniqueness, despite mostly still sounding like the same band – then they certainly continue this sterling development with Millennium of Night Bliss. Indeed, there’s a creepiness of aura and a more supernatural lyrical bent that fuel Valgrind‘s fifth album, and the power-trio duly whip forth a vortex of dark ‘n’ dazzling technicality and jaw-dropping chops. Everywhere you turn across the nine-song/38-minute work, there’s some slipstreaming portal opening up into another into another ad infinitum; one could say Millennium of Night Bliss isn’t so much a “complex” record (although it is) as it’s one of rippling darkness and dementia. Truly, Valgrind sound mental here, as the blazing angularity and “tunefully atonal” intensity hearken to such once-slept-on classics as Immolation’s Here In After and Morbid Angel’s Formulas Fatal to the Flesh. However, the Italians still continue to exert their own identity, adding just the right amount of melody (don’t worry: it’s VERY slight!) and making the remarkably crisp ‘n’ clean production work entirely for them.

Could Millennium of Night Bliss be Valgrind‘s best record yet? Put in the work and lose thyself in its labyrinths, and surely will you see the night-blissful truth!

Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

Tracklisting for Valgrind (Italy)’s Millennium of Night Bliss
1. Teshub
2. Banished by Celestial Harmonies
3. Millennium of Night Bliss
4. Tenebra Corona Mundi
5. Dark Winds of Avalon

CEMETERY URN reveal first track from new HELLS HEADBANGERS album

Today, death metal barbarians Cemetery Urn reveal the new track “Damnation is in the Blood.” The track is the first to be revealed from the band’s highly anticipated fifth album, Suffer the Fallen, which should see release this summer via Hells Headbangers on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats. Hear Cemetery Urn‘s “Damnation is in the Blood” in its entirety here:

By now, Cemetery Urn require no introduction. Pillars of Australia’s now-legendary extreme metal scene, for nearly 20 years have these barbaric death metallers pursued their strict ‘n’ staunch vision of absolute ultraviolence – and ultraviolence with poise and daresay class. Though lineup shuffles have always been a part of the band’s picture, through it all, erstwhile Abominator founder Andrew Gillon (guitar, sometimes-bass) has steered their turbulent ship and rendered four equally punishing full-length tomes: each one immediately recognizably Cemetery Urn, but each one subtly expanding their sound with no compromise and no quarter. That seven years separated their second and third albums and five years have passed since their fourth matter not; dread deeds are always bubbling within Gillon’s cauldron, and he’s now assembled another deadly lineup, resulting in another deadly LP.

Titled Suffer the Fallen, Cemetery Urn now see the arrival of drum god Brandon Gawith (Eskhaton, Hobbs Angel of Death, Vahrzaw), bassist Joel Westbrook, and fellow Abominator founder Chris Volcano on vocals. Wasting no time, Suffer the Fallen kicks in and proceeds to scorch all and sundry. Once again, Cemetery Urn exude their trademark poise and, yes, CLASS; pulverizing and often operating at unsafe speeds, the quintet still put proper songwriting at the forefront, and color it with a payload of devilish details and deft shifts in tempo and texture. To the uninitiated, Suffer the Fallen will stun and likely sound overwhelming, but those who already drink deeply of the extreme arts will perhaps be surprised at how lithe Cemetery Urn‘s characteristic barbarism has become. Sharpening that attack to an enviable degree is the clear ‘n’ cutting production courtesy of Adam Calaitzis at Toyland Studio, resulting in a fortuitous first partnership. Same goes for the stark cover artwork courtesy of scene legend Mark Riddick – Suffer the Fallen indeed!

Given Cemetery Urn‘s deep roots in the Australian scene and their preceding history, both in Abominator and Gillon’s late-days work in the influential Bestial Warlust, it’s with no small amount of fanfare that original vocalist Damon Bloodstorm – of course, former frontman for both Bestial Warlust and Abominator – is resurrected from the grave on the vinyl-only bonus track “Mass Graves of Blood,” an unreleased track from 2007 which also features original bassist Squiz and thus marks the final time that the original Cemetery Urn lineup was together. Altogether, eight tracks in 35 minutes of pure Australian Barbaric Death Metal: Suffer the Fallen and none survive!

Release date, cover, and tracklisting for Suffer the Fallen to be revealed shortly. For more info, consult the links below.

NECROTUM sign with MEMENTO MORI, prepare third album

In their endless quest to push and support current underground acts that perpetuate the odor of vintage death metal, Memento Mori are extremely thrilled to announce a new signing: Necrotum, from Romania.

The rancid entity known as Necrotum was initiated by mainman Filip Garlonta (Putred, Demoted, Vorus) in Brasov, back in 2019. Despite the fact that the band has only been around for about four years, Necrotum have already produced an impressive output, including two albums and a number of minor releases, getting tighter, danker, heavier, and more macabre over time, drawing inspiration from the likes of early Cannibal Corpse, Incantation, Wombbath, Broken Hope, and Grave among others, with the sole intention of perpetuating ghastly, downtuned, no-frills death fuckin’ metal.

Memento Mori will unleash the CD version of their third full-length in the first half of 2024. Further details to follow in the coming months. For more info, consult the links below.

HOODED MENACE comment: “We’re looking forward to work with Season of Mist for more Hooded Menace music! This is the first time for us to re-sign to any label, so that says a lot, I suppose. Since we are not playing live anymore, but went back to being a “studio band” only –  just like Hooded Menace was meant to be in the beginning – we’ve decided to part ways with Teemu Hannonen (rhythm guitar) in good spirits and continue as a three-piece.
