UNIVERSALLY ESTRANGED set release date for new BLOOD HARVEST album, reveal first track

Today, Blood Harvest Records announces October 28th as the international release date for Universally Estranged’s highly anticipated second album, Dimension of Deviant Clusters, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats.

One of the most exciting new hordes Blood Harvest has come across in recent years, Universally Estranged shocked and awed last year with their debut album, Reared Up in Spectral Predation. Widely acclaimed and blowing most minds who heard it, the mysterious one-man entity created sci-fi-drenched death metal of a most malign and mesmerizing order…and now he returns, little more than a year later, with an even more intimidating record.

Tellingly titled Dimension of Deviant Clusters, Universally Estranged‘s second album lays forth an equally psychedelic landscape perhaps less Technicolor than its predecessor but arguably one more focused and fearless. For sure, the dazzling/disorienting bleeps ‘n’ bloops hinted at on the first album go full tilt here, singeing the synapses while tighter and more coiled song constructions surge forward with crushing clarity, all before going in impossibly angular directions which feel more like a fever dream rather than (un)conventional death metal. Dimension of Deviant Clusters is thus an album of stark contrasts: on one hand, some of Universally Estranged‘s biggest (or, at least, most engaging) hooks, brought forth by seamless flow and exceptionally tight execution; on the other hand, a total MINDFUCK where riffs implode, backwards, and lazers shoot from every direction and tempos just tumble where they may. But, lest this all sound like a mess on paper, the mainman makes it all work lysergically, alchemically well, slam and skronk coming together and unveiling infinitely more possibilities for cosmonauts smitten with that first full-length. And if this is your first trip with Universally Estranged? Prepare to drop out, and drop in…deep, deep, deeper.

Science fiction becomes reality, and it’s bonkers to behold. Death metal’s DNA gets mangled once again, emerging more hideous and heightened than before, with Universally Estranged‘s Dimension of Deviant Clusters.

Begin mangling your mind with the brand-new track “Corrupted Mind Palace” here:

Belgium’s BONES set release date for long-awaited INVICTUS debut album, reveal first track

Today, Invictus Productions announces September 9h as the international release date for the highly anticipated debut album of Belgium’s BonesSombre Opulence.

Bones arose from the wastelands of Belgium in 2011, united by a common passion for real-sounding death metal: performed with authenticity and devotion, infused with the sorceries of the ancients. A primitive demo was recorded, released, and re-pressed several times. This was followed by two EPs: the Awaiting Rebirth 10″ from 2014 and the Gate of Night 12″ from 2020, both released through Blood Harvest Records. The interim was spent laying waste to stages across Europe, and the patient forging of the debut album. Now, this work has been completed, and the time has come for Bones to emerge with Sombre Opulence.

As deadly of a debut album as it comes, Sombre Opulence is a manifestation of total death metal dedication. Across nine cursed tracks, Bones evoke the ancient forces that lie at the core of true death metal, conjuring visions of primordial violence and sorcery. One can feel a broad range of influences, with a clear affinity for the darker acts that emerged at the genre’s dawn. From fast and ferocious to slow and sinister, their assault is both varied and cohesive, placing importance on organic production and morbid atmosphere, all delivered without mercy.

Above all, Sombre Opulence is the sound of triumphant slaughter, obscure magical ritual, and spiritual despair in the face of eternity. It is the slow crumbling of monuments across aeons, the stirring of primordial waters, and the howling of distant jackal gods. Be beckoned to this altar of death, from which flows the blood of crushed enemies…there stands Bones, ready to conquer all.

Prepare to be conquered with the brand-new track “Twilight Divination”  here:

Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

Texas’ FLESHROT stream ME SACO UN OJO / DESERT WASTELAND debut

Today, Texas death metallers Fleshrot stream the entirety of their highly anticipated debut album, Unburied Corpse. Set for international release on August 1st – Me Saco Un Ojo Records will handle the album’s release in Europe while Desert Wastelands will handle the USA – hear Fleshrot‘s Unburied Corpse in its entirety

Since forming in 2019, Texas’ Fleshrot have accumulated a steady fanbase with their rancid blend of slowly chugging death metal. With a demo, split, and single under their belts, it is time for their debut album to finally crush the skulls of the collective underground. With an immediately gripping assault of hammering, chunky bass, putrescent guitars, and guttural vocals, the sludgy cacophony of rotten ichor is even more brutal than ever before on this record; it does not take much time to figure that out. From Neanderthaloid riffing and belching breaks, the lumbering juggernaut of heaviness has a groove that even the most primitive mind can bang their head to, scattering loose brain matter as the bludgeoning and lacerating sounds cut through living tissue effortlessly. With some bonus savagery borrowed from grindcore but played at hideously slow pace, this album cannot be accused of being anything other than some of the filthiest and heaviest death metal you will ever hear. Equally, there is nothing trendy or bandwagon-jumping in sight: Fleshrot have their own sound, and deliver it with a scathing performance that is convincing in its own right.

If progression and technical nuance is what you seek, steer clear, for this is a sub-30-minute slab of pure butchery that is not for the self-proclaimed audio genius (read: pretentious); this is violent, visceral, and somehow stinks of rotting meat. With a production that allows seeping guitar wounds in the thick, tarry bass lines while retaining the snappy drums and not allowing the bellowed vocals to overshadow anything, this is a dense and swampy cut of morbid death metal that will puke itself forth into your ears, defiling and degrading all it comes into contact with. If you can withstand the putrefied sonic fruits bared by Fleshrot, then commend your stomach and ears’ strength because most will falter before the mighty and malicious blows landed by Unburied Corpse in all of its lurking, squelching, and squalid splendor. SARCOPHAGUM set release date for NUCLEAR WINTER debut EP, reveal first track – features members of GOLGOTHAN REMAINS

Today, Nuclear Winter Records announces September 12th as the international release date for Sarcophagum‘s striking debut EP, Conduits to the Underworld, on CD and cassette tape formats.

Sarcophagum spawned to life in the early half of 2021, during the time of the plague, as a side-project of Golgothan Remains members past and present. Their purpose? To provide a channel to explore new ideas and sounds in a studio-only setting. The dark death metal realm remains their primary influence, and the forthcoming debut EP, Conduits to the Underworld, is just the first taste of further impending death to come.

And what a taste it is: malevolent, martial, mesmerizing. Truly, this is twisted ‘n’ terrorizing death metal seemingly sent from a sepulchral cosmos, both impossibly massive in suffocating scope whilst eerily atmospheric, almost airy in its serpentine swirl. As such, Sarcophagum sound familiar and foreign simultaneously; death metal is undoubtedly the template, but the pieces binding it together are of a strange (and scourging) material. Each of the record’s three tracks emit epic sensations and yet almost race by with a palpitating swiftness, creating an engaging headfuck – Conduits to the Underworld, indeed!

In the meantime, hear the brand-new track “Pits of Hate” here:

Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

Tracklisting for Sarcophagum’s Conduits to the Underworld

2. Netherengines [4:43]

GUTVOID set release date for BLOOD HARVEST debut album, reveal first track

Blood Harvest Records is proud to present Gutvoid‘s highly anticipated debut album, Durance of Lightless Horizons, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette formats. The CD and tape versions will be released on September 23rd while the double-vinyl version should follow in November/December.

Formed in 2019, the ascent of Canada’s Gutvoid has been nothing if not meteoric. The Toronto natives digitally released their debut EP, Astral Bestiary, later that autumn and came to the attention of Blood Harvest, who then released it physically in 2020. And for good reason: ominously swarming, Gutvoid churned forth a world-eating Metal of Death that duly devoured the listener whole. More than being a three-song/24-minute soundworld unto itself, Astral Bestiary was a statement of intent from a bold-yet-pure DEATH METAL band.

Continuing that momentum was the even-bolder “Forbidden City Beneath the Crypt” digital single later in 2020, and the absolutely gelatinous Four Dimensions of Auditory Terror four-way split shared with Blood Spore, Coagulate, and Soul Devourment, underlining Gutvoid‘s slimy, mind-mangling roots. The stage was thus set for the inevitable full-length debut…

And now it arrives bearing the ominous title Durance of Lightless Horizons. Immediately, this titanic recording bears the hallmarks of the still-fresh Gutvoid sound: heaving, vertigo-inducing, spiraling like tar-thick smoke. And yet, the sterling sense of clarity the quartet only hinted at before takes full flight here; Durance of Lightless Horizons entices and then entrances the listener with a yearning, come-hither sort of melodicism underpinned by both melancholy and malice. That the execution has somehow tightened up even more – truly, Gutvoid‘s chops were exemplary before – allows these doom-drenched ruminations to cut sharper than ever, giving even the most stuck-in-quicksand passages to impart palpitating movement. But, rest assured that the songwriting across Durance of Lightless Horizons is an ever-so-patient one; linear to the very end, each passage conveys its sensation and then slithers into the next with a grace quite at odds with such a gutted sound.

It is not hyperbole to suggest that Durance of Lightless Horizons is one of the most fully-formed death metal debuts in recent memory. To celebrate its grand arrival, Blood Harvest will also be doing a limited run of Astral Bestiary on vinyl with the previously digital-only “Forbidden City Beneath the Crypt” included as bonus. This is indeed the year of Gutvoid.

In the meantime, hear the brand-new track “In Caverns It Lurks” here:

4. The One Who Dwells Beyond Time [8:44]

Ohio’s MANTICORE stream long-awaited new HELLS HEADBANGERS album

Today, Ohio black/death barbarians Manticore stream the entirety of their long-awaited fourth album, Endless Scourge of Torment. Set for international release on July 15th via Hells Headbangers on CD and cassette tape formats – the vinyl LP version will follow later this year – hear Manticore‘s Endless Scourge of Torment in its entirety here:

Formed at the dawn of the new millennium, Manticore have been a persistent and prolific force in the black/death underground, always sticking to their guns and defying convention with quality over quantity. That they released their pivotal Ritual Cleansing of the Whore EP through Judas Iscariot’s late/great Breath of Night label in 2002 should not go understated: from the very beginning, Manticore managed to create a wild ‘n’ warring sound that marries the muscularity of death metal with the graven aura of black metal, all performed with possessed and ritualistic execution. And although they’re just now set to release their fourth full-length, the power-trio have released a treasure trove of splits with the likes of Morbosidad, Bestial Mockery, Grave Upheaval, Sweden’s Kill, Canada’s Necroholocaust, and Obeisance among others, underlining their dedication to the true underground, when tape-trading, zines, and fliers were still king.

Still, a Manticore album is always a momentous event, and especially more so for the forthcoming Endless Scourge of Torment – the band’s first full-length in ten interminably long years. Indeed, while they did release a split 7″ with the aforementioned Kill last year, Manticore here sound filthier and more refreshed than ever, their pulsing ‘n’ pustulent sound sharper than ever. And therein lies the magic of Manticore in general and Endless Scourge of Torment in particular: for such a gnarly ‘n’ gnawing sound, one inherently drowned deep in the primordial muck, the trio evince a startling clarity, which only serves to make their ever-sturdy songwriting that much stronger. To that, Manticore‘s songwriting here efficiently straddles the line between bursts of angular bestiality and slow ‘n’ swirling doom, the latter perhaps strangely crystalized by a surprise cover of Twisted Sister’s “Captain Howdy.” Elsewhere, Markus Kolar (ex-Kommandant, Forest of Impaled, Sarcophagus etc) provides the album’s intro and subtle orchestration on various songs, and it’s all topped off by nightmarishly detailed cover art courtesy of NetherTemple Design and interior art for each song by Dahmer Art.

“The more things change, the more they stay the same,” or so the cliche goes. That “black/death” underground has undoubtedly changed since the year 2000, but Manticore are still here – still potent, still feral, still very much Manticore. This is the Endless Scourge of Torment the faithful deserve!

Preorder info can be found HERE. Aforementioned cover art and tracklisting are as follows:

1. The Fields of Torment
2. Thy Seed through the Fire

“Controlled chaos?” Lorenzo pauses for a song before finally looking right through you with his piercing eyes and slowly answering: “yes, I like the sound of that, it sums up pretty much what they stand for. Chaos with a sense if you will.”

The guitarist and vocalist of the Ravena-based band HIEROPHANT isn’t one to bury you under bigmouth statements and empty words. But when he says he thinks Death Siege is “the best thing we ever did and the one album when HIEROPHANT really comes on its own”, you know he means it.

Since their previous album, and first for SEASON OF MIST, Mass Grave in 2016 – originally described as a “vicious” mix of black sludge and death metal – many things have happened. It started with the release two years later of a two-track EP called Spawned Abortions “a good indication of where we were going but still not quite there”.

The band’s fourth full-length Death Siege was written during the first months of the pandemic, from March 2020 until May 2021, a dark period described by Lorenzo as a “long fucking long process but it was worth it. Until then, we were maybe missing a bit proper song structures and arrangements. In retrospect, Mass Grave is more grind-ish whereas the new is far more metal and riff-oriented. The songs are longer and have more things happening in them, the album is overall far more ambitious and more, well, musical

He concedes that HIEROPHANT started out more or less as “some kind of hardcore band, but with metal influences”, especially since Lorenzo has been also playing bass for THE SECRET since 2011, even if they haven’t been “very active” for a couple of years. “With HIEROPHANT, we actually signed our first contract originally with a hardcore/punk focused label called BRIDGE NINE. Originally, we had another line-up with a fulltime singer and we sounded like a very pissed off D-beat/crust band. But already in the back of my head, I had other plans. And when our frontman left in 2015, I took over the microphone as well and that’s when we started to evolve. To me, Mass Grave was a transitional record, it caught us midway if you will. But now with Death Siege we’ve finally reached our destination. And while we made a name of ourselves in the scene, I believe it’s truly the album that will take us a step further.”

Death Siege is full of war metaphors, lyrics about complete annihilation (‘Seeds Of Vengeance’, ‘Devils Incarnate’, Bloodbath Compendium’ etc.) and “fire, hatred and endless void. The sub-title for it could have been ‘impending doom’, it’s like you know something awful it’s going to happen and sweep the plate clean but no matter how hard you try, you won’t be able to stop it. That’s how I want the listeners to feel when they listen to this record.” He pauses before adding with his iron will look, “one could say that the album general state-of-mind is ‘no mercy, kill everybody’. Yep, that sums it up about right.” Are you ready?

THE SOMBRE set release date for new CHAOS RECORDS album, reveal first track – features mainman of GNAW THEIR TONGUES, CLOAK OF ALTERING, GOLDEN ASHES+

Today, Chaos Records announces August 19th as the international release date for The Sombre‘s highly anticipated third album, Monuments of Grief, on CD format.

The Sombre is the work of Maurice de Jong, insanely prolific mainman of Gnaw Their Tongues, De Magia Veterum, Cloak of Altering, Hagetisse, Golden Ashes, and countless others. With The Sombre, however, de Jong returns to his roots. Having spent his formative musical years in doom and doom-death metal bands (1989-1996: Atrocious, Cauteror, and Soulwound), de Jong here reimagines the sound of his youth: doom-death metal inspired by the “Peaceville Three” and other early ’90s doom/death pioneers.

The Sombre‘s debut album, Into the Beckoning Wilderness, was released in June 2019 in a strictly limited edition of 50 CD-Rs, which sold out immediately, of course. Fans of both his work in The Sombre and elsewhere, Chaos Records released a worldwide CD edition of Into the Beckoning Wilderness in March 2021, and now continues to foster than megaton-heavy sadness with the band’s brand-new third album, Monuments of Grief.

Almost too perfectly titled, Monuments of Grief is perhaps the most poignant distillation yet of The Sombre‘s heartwrenching style of doom-death. De Jong doesn’t step too far away from the miserable majesty of those preceding two records, but there’s an ever-so-slight expansion of atmosphere across Monuments of Grief, as the man expertly swathes his towering creations with subtle synth and plaintive piano, all while always allowing the CRUSH of sadness to wash over the listener. But, like those two preceding tomes, Monuments of Grief once again features a deftly finessed sense of space; the subterranean roar of de Jong’s voice plumbs deeper depths, but somehow with more clarity here. Most of all, de Jong’s melodies are more pronounced and earworming, evincing something of an early Katatonia vibe. All told, it’s another triumph of tragedy for The Sombre.

And, just like Chaos Records‘ well-received release of Into the Beckoning Wilderness, whether one chooses to drown in their sorrows or be emboldened by them with a suiting soundtrack is up to each individual. The Sombre will take you there either way as you contemplate these Monuments of Grief

Begin contemplating with the brand-new track “From the Depths of Misery” here:
