Finnish death metal cult Cynabare Urne reveal new video

Today, Finnish death metal cult Cynabare Urne reveal the new video “Hidden in the Higher Light.” The track hails from the band’s critically acclaimed debut album, Obsidian Daggers and Cinnabar Skulls,  released on October 30th via Helter Skelter Productions (distributed & marketed by Regain Records). See & hear Cynabare Urne’s “Hidden in the Higher Light” video in its entirety here:

Formed in 2014, Cynabare Urne are a power-trio hailing from Finland. Despite being a new formation, the members of Cynabare Urne possess a wealth of experience in the metal underground, across a wide variety of extreme styles, and with that experience dating back to even the mid ‘90s. The band made their recorded debut in the summer of 2016 with the two-song Fire the Torches EP, which Helter Skelter released on 10” vinyl and cassette tape formats later that year. A short but no-less-auspicious debut, the EP was aptly titled, displaying a sulfurous sort of death metal that was indeed fiery in intent and execution. In early 2018, Cynabare Urne kept that momentum going with a four-song EP, In the Cremation Ground, which Helter Skelter released across a variety of formats over that year. Darker and deadlier, In the Cremation Ground put the band’s name on the international metal map, heightening anticipation for the inevitable full-length.

At last, it is here, bearing the ominous title Obsidian Daggers and Cinnabar Skulls. Much like debut albums should, Obsidian Daggers and Cinnabar Skulls encapsulates Cynabare Urne’s past whilst pointing the way for their future, displaying the band’s best qualities and, in turn, revealing new (and darker, deadlier) truths. Right from the opening notes, the album exudes that miles-wide sense of space the band created early on…and then they proceed to CRUSH the listener with malevolent Metal of Death steeped in the ancients and with a miasmic sense of melody. Moving at many speeds, mesmerizing at every one, always flowing and always filthily, Cynabare Urne’s attack is neither strictly old-school nor new-school; stylistic nods span Sadistic Intent to Necros Christos, classic Grave to recent Dead Congregation, early Vader to later Repugnant, and plenty of other points in between. In a word: timeless. Thusly armed, the trio exhibit a masterful grasp of songcraft, imbuing their ever-twisting creations with dynamics and nuance as bountifully as they do genuine evil and menace. Likewise, the ever-pervasive sense of ritualism elevates these 10 tracks to more than just “death metal songs,” like shadowy transmissions from the beyond made flesh and then harnessed with no small amount of magick. Even the production itself, both palpably physical and eerily atmospheric, becomes a ghastly, gestating-ichorously thing, wrapping its Lovecraftian tendrils around the listener and never letting go… Darkness. Doom. DEATH.

Graced with suitably horrific cover artwork courtesy of Ville Salonen, Cynabare Urne’s Obsidian Daggers and Cinnabar Skulls is bound to be THE death metal debut album of the year!

SADISTIC DRIVE to have debut album released on vinyl by BLOOD HARVEST

Today, Blood Harvest Records sets February 26th, 2021 as the international release date for Sadistic Drive‘s striking debut album, Anthropophagy, on vinyl LP format.

Hailing from the eternal fount of death metal filth that is Finland, Sadistic Drive formed in 2018 and soon released their debut demo, Street Cannibal Gluttony. The title alone spelled out the quartet’s aims in no uncertain terms: total death metal depravity, sick and gory and slimy and sleazy! A rough ‘n’ rowdy rehearsal recording followed the next year, capped by a cover of Discharge’s “Maimed and Slaughtered,” but the best – and WORST – was yet to come…

At last, it arrived in the summer of 2020, in the form of Sadistic Drive‘s debut album: Anthropophagy. Released on cassette by Headsplit Records and then CD by La Caverna Records, this geyser of grossness is finally getting the treatment is so deserves – VINYL! Indeed, Anthropophagy is one gross slab of depraved DEATH, grinding and D-beating and dizzying and dark, but surprisingly, it’s also well-recorded and exceptionally tight. Where so much gore-drenched death metal goes the sloppy route, Sadistic Drive drive deep into death metal classicism and place a premium on actual songwriting: neither “old school” nor new, but rather timeless in its tried & true tropes…and above all, gross! One can sense a (sadistic) smirk on the band’s faces as they dole out their crushing jams, each one as fun as the last, but it’s DEATH METAL after all and bound to pound you into a pulp.

Appropriately, this vinyl version of Sadistic Drive‘s Anthropophagy will be presented on black vinyl (300 copies) and gross green (100 copies). Get down with their sickness!

In the meantime, stream Anthropophagy in its entirety here:

Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

PNEUMA HAGION stream NUCLEAR WAR NOW! debut album

Today, death metal primitivists Pneuma Hagion stream the entirety of their highly anticipated debut album, Voidgazer. Set for international release on December 1st via Nuclear War Now! Productions on vinyl LP format, hear Pneuma Hagion‘s Voidgazer in its entirety here:

Pneuma Hagion once again joins forces with Nuclear War Now! to release its debut full-length, Voidgazer. The band and label first collaborated in 2015 to bring forth the first Pneuma Hagion demo, Trinity I, and resumed their allegiance approximately three years later with the release of the Trinity LP, which compiled that original demo and the two ensuing demos in the series.

Like the earlier recordings, Voidgazer presents a starkly monolithic variety of death metal that reflects the emptiness personified in the title. The sound itself evokes the same stifling oppressiveness of Incantation and Immolation, as it alternates between fast tempos and bludgeoning doom passages, firmly aligning itself with one of the most revered schools of U.S. death metal. Perhaps most impressively, all instruments and vocals are performed by the lone member of Pneuma Hagion, unassumingly known as R., whose gnostic reflections pervade the lyrics that are animated by his own tortured voice.

The sum of these nine tracks is certain to endear Voidgazer to any dedicated adherent to the worship of the bleakness of human existence.

Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

Tracklisting for Pneuma Hagion’s Voidgazer 1. Aeons of Slumber
2. Summoning
3. The Black Light
4. Timeless Darkness
5. Anticosmic Incantations
6. Febrile Dreams
7. Gates to Worlds Beyond
8. Drawn Down from the Stars
9. Primordial

Uprising Swedish death metal cult Avlivad stream debut demo

Today, uprising Swedish death metal cult Avlivad stream the entirety of their highly anticipated debut demo, self-titled Avlivad Set for international release on November 27th via Invictus Productions, hear Avlivad‘s Avlivad demo in its entirety here:

A brand-new entity hailing from Gothenburg and featuring Ensnared drummer J.K on drums, Avlivad nevertheless make their presence felt – with FULL fucking FORCE – with their debut recording, fittingly self-titled. Swarming in its intensity, scabrous in its execution, and yet somehow dynamic despite this OTT attack, Avlivad masters myriad energies of death and spits them back at the listener, helplessly in thrall to this tornado of souls. Avlivad‘s death metal is no doubt grounded in all the madness & mysticism of the ancients, but the bristlingly morbid melodicism here puts the band in rarefied company; just witness the climactic closer, “And You’ll See Me,” and try NOT having those notes haunt you for days…

Grimy and gutted and teasing the threshold of chaos but masterfully not stepping over into the abyss – not fully, anyway – Avlivad‘s debut demo is a foul first strike portending more greatness to come.

Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

Tracklisting for Avlivad’s Avlivad

Turkey’s ENGULFED set release date for new ME SACO UN OJO / DARK DESCENT debut mini-album, reveal first track – features members of HYPERDONTIA+++

Today, Me Saco Un Ojo Records in conspiracy with Dark Descent Records set December 7th as the international release date for a new mini-album from Turkey’s EngulfedVengeance of the Fallen, on 12″ vinyl and CD formats, respectively. The cassette tape version shall be released by Extremely Rotten Productions.

Formed in 2010, Turkey’s Engulfed comprise a wealth of experience in the metal underground, with the band’s three members playing in or having played in such bands as Decaying Purity, Burial Invocation, and Hyperdontia among others. However, as Engulfed, the power-trio dive deeply into classic forms of ’90s-entrenched DEATH METAL whilst retaining a freshness of approach.

The band made their recorded debut in 2012 with the EP Through the Eternal Damnation, which Me Saco Un Ojo Ojo released on vinyl the next year. Five years would pass before Engulfed would deliver another record, but this time, it came in full-length form: Engulfed in Obscurity, their debut album. Quite the opposite of its title, Engulfed in Obscurity firmly put Engulfed‘s name on the international death metal map.

Never ones to rush things nor work in half-measures, Engulfed now return after a three-year hiatus with a brand-new mini-album bearing the title Vengeance of the Fallen. Truly, upon first listen, the astute will find that the band have outdone themselves here, with every element – songwriting, execution, production, aura, even the cover art – surpassing the highwater mark of their not-inconsiderable debut album. Indeed, Vengeance of the Fallen is aptly titled, for Engulfed rise from the shadows of their hiatus with a fury and focus that are frankly startling to behold. Sepulchral depths are explored, haunting tremolos squiggle, rhythms cyclone in a manner most labyrinthine, and just the right amount of gleam is applied to their grime, resulting in a surprisingly epic four-song/25-minute landscape of darkness and dread. As ever, Engulfed astutely walk the fine line between death metal’s old school and its new(er) school of Old School, instead heeding their own internal hells and in turn exhibiting a masterclass of mesmerizing, majestic DEATH.

Begin getting schooled with the brand-new track “Rites of Abandoned Heretics” here:

Tracklisting for Engulfed (Turkey)’s Vengeance of the Fallen
1. Rites Abandoned Heretics [7:54]
2. Summoning The Black Death [4:57]
3. Cycle of Black Altar [6:38]
4. Scorched [5:03]

Polish black/death/noise commando DeathEpoch stream their highly anticipated debut album

Today, Polish black/death/noise commando DeathEpoch stream the entirety of their highly anticipated debut album, Abysmal Invocation. Set for international release on October 6th via Putrid Cult on CD and cassette tape formats – the vinyl LP version shall be released in December – hear DeathEpoch‘s Abysmal Invocation in its entirety here:

DeathEpoch is a band from Poland formed in February 2020. The band consists of Lord K. (Nekkrofukk, Sacrificulus, Goathrone, ex-Hate) responsible for vocals, drums, and electronic samples and Morgul (owner of the Putrid Cult label) responsible for guitar and bass parts. In June of this year, they finished work on their debut full-length, Abysmal Invocation, combining dark ‘n’ deranged elements of black metal, death metal, and war metal with ritual ambient and industrial noise. A bold fusion for such a new band, but one that’s haunting and suffocating in equal measures…

Comprising 10 songs across 51 frayed-ends-of-sanity minutes, DeathEpoch‘s Abysmal Invocation duly lives up to its title, and then some. To enter its tar-thick and just-as-black depths is to enter a charnel pit itself; the way forward is spread before the listener, but each step deeper reveals fathomless horrors. Much like a fever dream, the delirium-inducing decibels the duo present here paradoxically flow, flitting between crushed ‘n’ crushing metal one minute and otherworldly ambience the other, its jarring malevolence well and truly drawing that listener toward the outer reaches of madness. Indeed, genre parameters matter not to DeathEpoch when the goal is SONIC ANNIHILATION, utilizing every weapon at hand to evoke the unshakable feeling of Apocalypse in this increasingly desperate 21st Century. Adding to that arsenal are guest vocal parts from the esteemed likes of Mark of The Devil (Cultes Des Ghoules), Vincent Crowley (Acheron), and Kris Stanley (Sinistrous Diabolus, ex-Diocletian), and covers of Sodom and Acheron are given suitably malformed treatment within this Abysmal Invocation.

Given this span of stylistic antagonism, Abysmal Invocation is just as recommended for fans of Mz.412, Prurient, and Brighter Death Now as it is for Beherit, Revenge, and Archgoat. But, upon evidence of this frightening first strike, DeathEpoch have crafted a unique identity worth reckoning. This is the beginning of the end!

Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

Tracklisting for DeathEpoch’s Abysmal Invocation
1 Abysmal Invocation pt. I
2. Genocide I
3. Genocide II
4. Abysmal Ivocation pt. II
5. Genocide III (featuring Mark of the Devil)

7. Genocide V (featuring Vincent Crowley)
8. Bombenhagel (featuring Kris Stanley) [Sodom cover]

SKELETHAL set release date for new HELLS HEADBANGERS album, reveal first track

Today, Hells Headbangers sets November 20th as the international release date for Skelethal‘s highly anticipated second album, Unveiling the Threshold on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats. “Sidereal Lifespan,” the first track to be revealed from Unveiling the Threshold, can be heard here:
It’s been like an ever-flowing stream for Skelethal, ever since that very first fateful spontaneous rehearsal occurring between Gui Haunting (vocals & guitar) and Jon Whiplash (drums & bass) back in 2012. While the pair initially both played with Bay Area-like devotees Infinite Translation, they instantly bonded not only over classic death metal but its Swedish late ’80s/early ’90s counterpart, back when that subgenre was still in its infancy yet still did reek of that unmistakable stench, away from modern trickery and trends.

Eight years later, their (malicious) intent is not only intact but stronger than ever. Yet, besides an impressive outlet of various splits and demos completed by a first proper full-length (Of The Depths…), what once was a studio-only side-project has now turned into a powerful and fully-fledged band. Skelethal first recruited live session members in 2014 to respond to the live demand, while Jon ended up leaving the band in November 2018 for personal reasons. Assisted by Lucas from Mortal Scepter, who became an official member after serving for over five years as lead guitarist, Gui vowed to recruit a whole lineup, recruiting first Julien on bass and then Lorenzo Vissol from Schizophrenia on drums. By January 2019, the “new” Skelethal started working on the forthcoming second album.

Preceded by the demo-cum-proper-EP Antropomorphia, whose title track has actually been rerecorded here, Unveiling the Threshold succeeds in both staying true to its historical roots – you’ll be easily forgiven if you first think you’ve stumbled into an unreleased Hetsheads or Carnage demo – while going beyond the simple and now too-limited Swedeath tag. Way beyond.
Wasting very little time with its opening salvo “Sidereal Lifespan,” the album first grabs you by the throat before circling the listener like a vulture. They may still tread on the left-hand path, but besides resurrecting a certain idea of the underground – some may say “true” – that seemingly disappeared back in 1991, it’s actually how genuinely evil and undiluted their death metal is that’s most striking about Unveiling the Threshold.

Mostly written by Gui, with contribution by Lucas – who came up with all the music for “Adorned With The Black Vertebra” and helped co-write “Repulsive Recollections” – yet with all four members pitching in for arrangements, the whole album was ironed out throughout 2019. To keep it raw, they opted to record everything by themselves in their rehearsal room in Tourcoing, nearby Lille, in France before handing the result over to Greg Wilkinson from the now-(in)famous Earhammer studios (Necrot, Undergang, Acephalix, etc.) for the mix last June.

Indecent and obscene, rounded by a colorful yet on-purpose cryptic and ominous artwork perfectly illustrating its title by the one and only Eliran Kantor (Bloodbath, Hate Eternal, Athiest, etc.), Unveiling the Threshold is the proof that Skelethal are not here to crawl, but to climb to the very top of the Swedeath food chain. Beware! (text by Olivier Zoltar Badin)

SKELETHAL set release date for new HELLS HEADBANGERS album, reveal first track

A statement from the band reads: “We are very thrilled to present our second full-length, Unveiling the Threshold, which holds the most brutal and in-your-face material composed by Skelethal to this day. On this second album, we were able to develop our death metal in a more efficient way, incorporating a second soloist, faster relentless drums, and allowing the songs to reach the ferocious grounds of early grindcore while still in the realm of Swedish death metal. Overall, the songwriting process has been more personal and included a greater number of influences.”

Continuing, they say, “Actual OSDM thrives worldwide with a very unique sound, behind which we can often find Greg Wilkinson from Earhammer Studios (Undergang, Necrot, Mortuous). This is the reason why we wanted Skelethal to collaborate with him for the mixing and mastering of the album. This, in addition to a new recording process and a still-fresh lineup, enabled us to achieve the heaviest sound we ever had – deep vocals, chainsaw-buzzing guitars, a crushing bass, and an explosive snare drum. The production might be cleaner than our previous releases, but still has its important share of filth and aggressiveness that defines death metal to its core.”

Concluding, “Finally, we asked the talented Eliran Kantor to bring Unveiling the Threshold to life throughout hisvery singular and remarkable paintng. The final result fits perfectly the identity of the band and the album, where monoliths rise from the sea and portals open up to a tormented sky.”

SEPTAGE set release date for ME SACO UN OJO debut EP – features members of TAPHOS and HYPERDONTIA

Today, Me Saco Un Ojo Ojo Records sets October 16thh as the international release date for Septage‘s striking debut EP, Septic Decadence, on 7″ vinyl format. Pyre Press will be handling the cassette tape version.

Although a brand-new entity, Septage feature members of Taphos and Hyperdontia, and are perhaps unsurprisingly yet another sterling addition to Copenhagen’s thriving death metal scene of late. However, unlike those two bands, Septage indeed dwell deeply within sewage and gore, exhibiting a sound that reverentially nods to early Carcass as well as the contemporaneous Finnish death metal scene such records as Reek of Putrefaction and especially Symphonies of Sickness so inspired.

On evidence of the band’s debut EP, Septic Decadence, Septage are a fresh breath of foul old air, proudly presenting themselves as a gore-infested death metal band whilst offering new knife twists to the subgenre. Aptly titled, Septic Decadence burrows within slime and grime and yet has a remarkably clear-headed approach that only heightens that physical/metaphysical grossness; let one not dare call it “clean,” but Septage‘s execution here is extremely articulate, their chops truly enviable. Likewise, the EP maintains a crispy ‘n’ cutting production that’s richly analog in feel. Together, these elements combine to create a shock & awe record of righteous proportions: four songs in 12 minutes, the listener left stunned by the punishing pustulence the band so effortlessly dole out. And as vividly displayed by climactic closer “Septicious Septic,” the haunting’s just begun…

First track and preorder info to be announced shortly. Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

GRAVE DESECRATOR: Brazilian black/death act shares new video “Temple Of Abominations”

https://store.bruderdeslichts.com/collections/misc/products/baphomet-stainless-steel-beer-mug

Long-serving black/death metal group Grave Desecrator has recently released a video for the track “Temple of Abominations” from their latest album, Dust to Lust. The video contains footages from the “20 Years Of Desecration Tour.”

With this video, the Brazilian group puts an end to the Dust to Lust era. The quartet is currently working on the new album that is likely to appear in the first half of 2021.

The band states:
“We are ending a cycle and starting a new chapter in the history of Grave Desecrator. We are finalizing the new compositions, and very soon, we will enter the studio to start the recording process.

“Until the new material arrives, check out the new video and subscribe to the YouTube channel.”

Watch “Temple Of Abominations”:
Formed in 1998, Grave Desecrator is a Brazilian Black/Death Metal band from Rio de Janeiro. Since the inception, the band has released three studio albums, a live album, and a couple of EPs and splits. Their latest opus, Dust To Lust, came in 2016 under the flag of Season Of Mist (France).

Grave Desecrator’s raw and aggressive form of sound made them an influential name in the current South American extreme metal scene. Their music and live shows conjure satanism, perdition, chaos, and funerary sacrilege, surrounded by a mundane and nasty atmosphere.

The Brazilian group has conquered more than 50 cities across 15 countries, appeared at prestigious festivals like Live Evil, and shared stages with the likes of Ghost, Angel Witch, Vulcano, Deströyer 666, Archgoat, Black Witchery, Hirax, Sadistic Intent, Bölzer, and more.

In 2018, Grave Desecrator began their 20th-anniversary tour that lasted until 2019. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the band had to postpone their shows in Europe, the USA, and South America. 2021 is likely to be a busy year for the band as a new album and many local and overseas shows (including a few festivals) are on schedule. And the madness continues …

BLOODSOAKED NECROVOID set release date for IRON BONEHEAD debut album, reveal first track

Today, Iron Bonehead Productions sets November 6th as the international release date for Bloodsoaked Necrovoid‘s highly anticipated debut album, Expelled into the Unknown Depths of the Unfathomable, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Hailing from Costa Rica, Bloodsoaked Necrovoidformed in 2018 and quickly set to work on their first recordings. Two demos followed that year, which were later compiled onto vinyl format as Apocryphal Paths Of The Ancient 8th Vitriolic Transcendence via Iron Bonehead in early 2019. Later that year came a limited promo/rehearsal recording a split tape with Ratlord. Through all these suffocating recordings, the duo built a smokestack of charred DEATH so impossibly bleak as to be unbearable. And now, they eclipse that feat with their long-awaited, literally-massive debut album…

Aptly fucking titled, Expelled into the Unknown Depths of the Unfathomable is the no-hope/no-fun churn of sepulchral doom-death turned completely inside out. More crushingly suffocating than previous recordings and yet somehow emitting a massive sense of space that punctures through the veil of complete atmosphere, Bloodsoaked Necrovoid here drag the listener kicking & screaming (slooowwwly) through the caverns below the caverns of the mind/subconscious/spirit and then spit blood and bile across the putrid pile. It’s a six-song/41-minute experience that seems to last for infinity but just as effortlessly retains a sulfurous urgency seemingly at odds with its guttural slo-motion grind, surprisingly kicking into gutsfucking gallops that sound like bestial metal dragged through tar. Unknown and unfathomable are their ways, and expelled you most certainly will be!

Bloodsoaked Necrovoid will ruin your day, again and again and again, and there’s no sweet succor when one’s Expelled into the Unknown Depths of the Unfathomable.

Begin expulsion with the brand-new track “Viciously Consumed by the Unfolding Unknown” here:

Cover and tracklisting as follows:

Tracklisting for Bloodsoaked Necrovoid’s
Expelled into the Unknown Depths of the Unfathomable
1. Dispossessed in an Asphyxiating Endless Darkness
2. Perverted Astral Intoxication for a Death Incarnation
3. Viciously Consumed by the Unfolding Unknown
4. Inescapable Transferance of Profane Malignity
5. Existential Dismemberment by a Transcendental Nothingness
6. Traversing the Threshold of a Treacherous Depraved Absolute
