Track taken from the band’s album Afterlife, out via Wormholedeath Stream “Afterlife”:  orcd.co/afterlifealbum
The concept album Afterlife depicts an interdimensional being that stalks life in our universe because it represents a threat to existence itself. And the human species, or at least what it has become after the events described in the previous creations of Angel Rising, is now its target. The cover shows the hero, Asai, struggling with a horde of undead, and unaware of the even greater danger that awaits him. Angel Rising is a one-man Death Metal project started in Marseille in 2020. Its main influences come from the old-school thrash/death scene (Sepultura, Metallica, Death). Still, it also gives pride of place to modern and progressive elements combined with a very technical and virtuoso approach.

STRATUZ emerged onto the metal scene in 1984 and quickly solidified their position as Venezuela’s most revered metal band. Their debut album, “In Nomine…” released in 1995, catapulted them to recognition and acclaim. Following a triumphant European tour in 1999, they signed with LSP-Company and released “Spirit Seduction,” which marked a new chapter in their musical journey. After a hiatus, the band reunited in 2019, pouring their passion into the creation of “Osculum Pacis,” which was unleashed upon the world in 2022. The album garnered international praise, securing the top spot on the Jacquin Ravens Top 50 Metal chart and earning accolades as the best work of 2022 by esteemed journalist Roberto Palmitesta and Metal Pedia.

Californian death metal Cro-Magnons Dipygus premiere new track

Today, Californian death metal Cro-Magnons Dipygus premiere the new track “The Dover Demon”. The track is the second to be revealed from the band’s highly anticipated third album, Dipygus, set for international release on January 22nd, 2024: Memento Mori will handle the CD version while Crypt of the Wizard will handle the vinyl version. Hear Dipygus‘ “The Dover Demon” in its entirety here:

Since the dawn of the Paleolithic age, mankind has recorded spectacular scenes of death, whether in scenes of cannibal feasts crudely etched on cave walls, massacres immortalized in glyphs adorning monuments of the ancient kingdoms, or in chance recordings of grisly accidents, compiled and sold on home video to those with a thirst for that which is denied to them by our “civilized” society. Spawned in the contaminated sewers of Santa Cruz, California in 2013, Dipygus began as a four-piece mutation performing rudimentary styles of death metal, a sonic evolution of the tradition continued from the time of Cro-Magnons. A 2015 demo recording, the earliest surviving documentation of the band, reveled in unexplained and bizarre events, including peculiar methods of whale carcass disposal and otherworldly monsters from on and off the silver-screen.

After a lineup change in 2016, Dipygus recorded the Long Pig Feast EP, which featured terrifying rites, ritual mutilations, and ominous sightings of a Mesozoic relic in the heart of the Congo. Their debut album, Deathooze, slowly de-composed in the murky shallows of powerplant runoff in the Monterey Bay, ultimately being recorded in 2018. Though quickly banned in over 16 countries, Dipygus‘ debut album attracted immediate attention among slime fetishists and similarly deviant circles. Placed appropriately alongside the Fiji mermaids and other grotesque artefacts found in curio cabinets of modern-day antiquarians, Deathooze continued the band’s exploration of inexplicable incidents, mysterious beasts, and shocking carnage, including genuine audio recovered from a fatal attack at the hands of an ape gone mad!

Following their debut album, Dipygus was conjoined with an additional member, and began a new exploration in search of secrets hidden in the jungles of lost continents, where life is cheap. After successful initiation into the shadowy world of black-market cuisine, an agreement was reached with Memento Mori for the release of Dipygus‘ second full-length, Bushmeat. Showcasing more exotic and repulsive themes of the supernatural and taboo, Bushmeat presented an uncensored and unrelenting spectacle, with each element of the previous work irresponsibly taken to a further extreme. A prime cut of raw and grueling terror, it was fit for consumption by headhunters, body-snatchers, toad-venom junkies, cargo cultists, aquatic ape theorists, disaster tourists, carriers of tropical disease, voodoo practitioners and orgone revivalists only.

All others having since been warned, Dipygus return to time primordial with an elegantly self-titled third album. Suitably graced with evocative cover art courtesy of Hayden Hall, Dipygus thrusts the helpless listener into a psychedelic jungle of grisly delights. At ten songs in 41 minutes, the quartet qualify their most lengthy recording yet with maximum delirium and characteristically crushing execution. Everything here feels MASSIVE – tone, feel, supernatural aura – yet somehow simultaneously exhibits a spacious quality that’s unsettling to the Nth degree. Perhaps that’s due to Dipygus‘ increasingly twisted songwriting, neither “tech” nor improvisatory, but a certain “elevated caveman” aspect that pushes primitivism toward mind-bending ends. Fleeting-yet-haunting leads also play a part in Dipygus‘ menagerie of malodorousness, exacerbating the psychotic reactions in their humid, hellish jungle, and even touches of way-back synths get mangled within, melting into the fuckton heaviness of Dipygus‘ riffing.

Ever wanna hear the most tripped-out moments of Autopsy, Impetigo, and especially Nuclear Death taken to their ILLogicial conclusion? Then enter Dipygus‘ self-titled album…if you dare!

Romanian death metallers Necrotum premiere the new track “Shattered Flow of Time”

Today, Romanian death metallers Necrotum premiere the new track “Shattered Flow of Time”. The track is the second to be revealed from their highly anticipated third album, Defleshed Exhumation, set for international release on January 22nd, 2024  via Memento Mori. Hear Necrotum‘s “Shattered Flow of Time” in its entirety :

Hailing from Romania, the rancid entity known as Necrotum was initiated by mainman Filip Garlonta (Putred, Demoted, Vorus) in Brasov, back in 2019. Despite the fact that the band has only been around for four years, Necrotum have already produced an impressive output, including two albums and a number of shorter releases, getting tighter, danker, heavier, and more macabre over time, drawing inspiration from the likes of early Cannibal Corpse, Incantation, Wombbath, Broken Hope, and Grave among others, with the sole intention of perpetuating ghastly, downtuned, no-frills DEATH fuckin’ METAL.

While it would be expected (and celebrated) if Necrotum stuck to those rancid guns, on their forthcoming third album, Defleshed Exhumation, do they become slicker and yet more twisted – tighter but also wilder, and perhaps more “evolved”….very relatively speaking! Because make no mistake, Necrotum are staunchly (and sickly!) death metal of a most ’90s vintage, but whereas their preceding full-lengths could be slotted within the pantheon of early ’90s death metal, Defleshed Exhumation takes a concerted path toward mid or even late ’90s death metal. Think the likes of Monstrosity, Broken Hope, Mortal Decay, and especially Deeds of Flesh and pre-breakup Suffocation: undeniably fierce and punishing, but technical in a creepy and oft-slimy way. Not for nothing is the cover art created by Slimeweaver! Of especial note is the production on Defleshed Exhumation: this is about as slick and clean as you can get whilst retaining the core darkness and horror of classic DEATH METAL; if anything, those superlatively sharp edges only make that darkness & horror hit harder. Stomp in the slime and twist down into its depths with Necrotum!

Tracklisting for Necrotum’s Defleshed Exhumation
1. Warped in Entrails

4. Dissolved in the Flesh Pits

NEGATIVE PRAYER set release date for CHAOS RECORDS debut, reveal first track – features members of POISON IDEA, INCANTATION, FUNEBRARUM, ACEPHELIX+++

Today, Chaos Records announces March 1st, 2024 as the international release date for Negative Prayer‘s striking debut album, Self // Wound, on CD format. The vinyl version will follow later in 2024.

Negative Prayer is an exorcism of systemic violence, violation, and dehumanizing social conditioning, ripping at the throat of a brutal system designed to traumatize, disempower, and exploit for profit and power. Bloody visions of internalized violence, rage, self-hate, and retribution pump through the heart of a man-made machine.

“Behead the prophet. Dethrone the corporate. Vomit lies. Eat your fucking face off.” Growled through fangs and bile spews the disgusted sentiment of a wounded animal going for the throat that is Negative Prayer. Negative Prayer is Kyle House on vokills, guitar, and bass and Charlie Koryn on drums: current and ex-members of Poison Idea, Acephalix, Decrepisy, Incantation, and Funebrarum, playing brutal D-beat/crust in the vein of Driller Killer and Wolfpack.

All songs were written by Kyle House, except “Bloodfeast” by Glenn Danzig. Self // Wound was recorded by Charlie Koryn at Toadhouse Recording during Winter 2020/21. The album was re-amped, re-mixed, and mastered by Greg Wilkinson at Earhammer.

Australia’s CONTAMINATED set release date for new BLOOD HARVEST album, reveal first track

Today, Blood Harvest Records announces February 9th, 2024 as the international release date for the highly anticipated second album of Australia’s ContaminatedCelebratory Beheading, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats.

Back in 2017, Contaminated announced their arrival – loudly, sickly – onto the international death metal map with their debut album, Final Man, via Blood Harvest. Graced with disturbingly detailed cover art, the Australians approximated the vivid visuals with ichor-dripping DEATH METAL of a most diseased & disgusting hue. At every angle and across every moment, Final Man spewed filth; song titles like “Mired in Shit,” “Boneless Mass,” and “Co-Opted Into Worthless Sludge” soundly proved that content met form. A couple years later, a split 7″ with comrades KUTABARE followed, after which Contaminated were quiet on the recording front. But alas, earlier this spring, a split 7″ with long-running sludge-lords Fistula arrived.

Still, two songs in the past six years is criminal, but Contaminated make up for that quietude with their long-awaited second album, Celebratory Beheading. Upping the disgusting stakes yet again with its cover art, Celebratory Beheading literally explodes into being, blasting its filth fast and free before bringing in stomping-yet-angular breakdowns and a whole host of gut-churning intensity. In many ways, Celebratory Beheading‘s clearly-framed cover mirrors Contaminated‘s sonic shift; whereas Final Man roamed within a malodorous murk, the Aussies’ second full-length sharpens their attack with frightening efficiency. Nevertheless, the latent sensations from that rancid debut remain – rippling disgust, bottomless decay, slipstreaming vomit – only that, now, they’re rendered in impossibly powerful tones. Rarely has a deathgrinding record sounded this plausibly professional whilst retaining an authentically underground vibe.

Prepare to lose your head over Contaminated‘s Celebratory Beheading!

HELFRÓ Are More Deadly than Ever on Second Album

HELFRÓ are coming back in from the cold with Tálgröf. The Icelandic duo’s second album is inspired by the myriad dark manifestations of the human mind. Through intense rhythmic passages, sick drummer Ragnar Sverrisson and axeman Simon Thorolfsson  delve into the most depraved cavities of the human psyche, while melting their native black metal with traditional, fiery death metal and tortured lyrics.

Tálgröf comes out this Friday, December 1. But you can listen to all nine hell-raising tracks on HELFRÓ‘s new album today, here:

Tálgröf is a high octane, extremely entertaining album”, according to Metal Sucks, “…the future looks very bright for a band that spends a good portion of their year shrouded in complete darkness”.

Lead single Fláráð Fræði puts a fresh, icy-cold twist on the blackened-death metal  that HELFRÓ carved out on their self-titled debut album, with tremolo riffs that rain down with all the fury of a hailstorm.

“Ildi Óhreins Anda” chugs along a melodic groove, though the song is more sinister than it lets on. The lyrics on Tálgröf  are based on interviews, journals and features on mass murders. “Traðkandi Blómin í eigin Hjartagarði” is about how these killers would poison themselves with mind-altering substances and sleep deprivation in order to commit heinous crimes that go ahead our very nature, all while reveling in the glorious death metal shredding that Ragnar grew up going to see with his uncle.

HELFRÓ are still as cold and unforgiving as the winters in their home country. But ‘Tálgröf’ is prime to light a fire beneath Icelandic metal.

“…a barrage of killer riffs, crushing blast beats and even some melodies here and there”, writes Metal Injection. “…downright mesmerizing drumming by Ragnar Sverrisson, who puts on a freakin’ clinic on this record”.

Here’s what Ragnar has to say about his band’s new album:

“The gate has opened and unspeakable horrors are now loose! Immerse yourself in the darkest thought patterns of murder and death upon which Tálgröf was conceived. Let the majestic furiosity envelope your very being. Thank you all for joining us on this dark journey. Hail the duality of man.”

Formed amidst the haunting landscapes of Iceland, HELFRÓ is a formidable force in the world of blackened death metal. With their relentless aggression, atmospheric soundscapes, and compelling songwriting, they have carved their own path in the metal scene.

The journey of HELFRÓ began when guitarist and songwriter Ragnar Sverrisson sought to bring his musical visions to life, Drawing inspiration from the bleakness of Icelandic winters, the mysticism of nature, and the chaos of the human experience. HELFRÓ‘s debut album, aptly titled “Helfró“, was released in 2020, marking the band’s official entry into the world of extreme metal. With a relentless barrage of blast beats, crushing riffs, and haunting melodies, the album showcased their ability to seamlessly blend aggression and atmosphere.

Evolving with the advent of the sophomore album, Tálgröf, listeners can expect even more ferocity as HELFRÓ dives deeper into death metal territory while not straying to far from the signature ice-cold climactic tremolo riffing notable of their previous work. Characterized by its ferocity, the new album also carries introspective and thought-provoking themes, reflecting the band members’ willingness to explore the depths of the human experience. HELFRÓ is destined to leave an impact on the realm of extreme music, captivating audiences with their unique brand of Icelandic metal.

Italy’s INTO DARKNESS set release date for new INVICTUS EP – streaming in full

Today, Invictus Productions announces December 1st as the international release date for a brand-new EP from Italy’s Into DarknessCassini – Huygens, on 12″ vinyl format.

Formed in 2011, Italy’s Into Darkness have been a work in progress for the last decade-plus. Led by vocalist / guitarist Doomed Warrior from the very beginning, the band have a handful of demos, a couple splits, and now a couple EPs to their name; while all short-lengths, they’re certainly not lacking in quality. And while they’ve experienced a few hiatuses and just as many lineup shuffles, Into Darkness are now poised to make up for lost time Cassini – Huygens.

As suggested by its title, Cassini – Huygens is the latest cosmic tale from the increasingly space-obsessed Into Darkness. But lest one expect this EP to travel among tech-death starts, Doomed Warrior and her space-crew stick to staunchly old-school death metal in the vein of Asphyx, Pentacle, and early Soulburn, brimming with the thematic splendor of space rather than being entirely overrun by it. Totaling 27 minutes of music, the EP’s five tracks encompass a concept based on the Cassini-Huygens space mission to Saturn: an immersive journey in the most exciting interplanetary mission ever done. Blast off and lose thyself in the cosmic maelstrom of Into Darkness‘ Cassini – Huygens!

Great White North death metallers Cruel Fate premiere new track

Today, Great White North death metallers Cruel Fate premiere the new track “Descente aux Enfers”. The track is the second to be revealed from the band’s highly anticipated second album, Destin Cruel, set for international release on November 17th via Personal Records. Hear Cruel Fate‘s “Descente aux Enfers” in its entirety here:

Conjured in 2015 in the frozen landscapes of Canada, Cruel Fate released their first demo soon after their inception, followed by a full-length in 2019 (A Quaternary of Decrepit Night Mares), a split album in 2021 with fellow Canuck death-dealers Expunged, and the Live Necropsy live tape in 2022. As impious apostles of the old vanguard, Cruel Fate worships at the altar of ’90s greats such as Unleashed, Grave, Benediction, and Bolt Thrower, while lacing the chalice’s blood with their own blend of ferocious, stomping death metal.

Now wielding the French language as a bludgeoning battle axe, Cruel Fate unleashes their second full-length, Destin Cruel. Cleanly produced yet cold & crushing, Cruel Fate‘s sophomore album is a tour de force of classic death metal songcraft, comprising rolling-tank grooves, judiciously parceled bouts of speed, slipstreaming breakdowns, and a haunting lead or five. Nothing fancy or flashy, nor does it need to be: simply, Destin Cruel quickly makes its point in a half-hour and gets out, devastating the listener in the process. This release is sure to tighten the quartet’s steel grip on the throat of maniacs worldwide.

Indian death metal tyrants Tetragrammacide premiere new track

Today, Indian death metal tyrants Tetragrammacide premiere the new track “Spectral Hyenas of Amenta Howl, the Vulture of Ma’at Descends, and Tahuti Watches Without his Ape”. The track is the second to be revealed from the band’s highly anticipated second album, Typho-Tantric Aphorisms From The Arachneophidian Qur’an, set for international release on November 3rd via Iron Bonehead Productions. Hear Tetragrammacide‘s “Spectral Hyenas of Amenta Howl, the Vulture of Ma’at Descends, and Tahuti Watches Without his Ape” in its entirety here:

Hailing from the ever-thriving and always-interesting Indian metal underground, Tetragrammacide have proven to transcend even such already-superlative boundaries. For over a decade now, the hydra-headed entity has created one of the most genuinely threatening and overwhelmingly violent sounds of modern times, and then they flip the script by becoming clearer and more focused and somehow even more feral. Allied with Iron Bonehead since 2015, Tetragrammacide‘s Typhonian Wormholes: Indecipherable Anti-Structural Formulæ mini-album was a modern classic of blown-out barbarism and in-the-red frequencies, betraying the fact that an accomplished black/death band were simply waiting for an opportune time to reveal a clearer portrait of their sonic holocaust. That then arrived with 2017’s Primal Incinerators of Moral Matrix debut album: an impossibly accomplished display of black/death intensity and density, sharpened to a such a degree that their sensory overload became all the more expansive.

Back to a power-duo – or “cosmic power-zones,” in the band’s own words, “entwined discreetly by unregistered topographical phenomena and invisible distortion of the subtle ontological matrices by a warping of occult space-time!” – Tetragrammacide unveil their sophomore revelation, inarguably their most devastating work from top to bottom: Typho-Tantric Aphorisms From The Arachneophidian Qur’an. Here, the Indian sonic temple expand the extremes latent to their aesthetic, and draw them closer and most distant simultaneously, playing into the head-spinning and ouroboros-eating vortex of the album’s themes itself. While the preceding full-length had its heart fixated on “Srishti Drishti Vada” – doctrine of perception through the creation – this new opus has sprouted itself under the Upanishadic tenets of “Drishti Srishti Vada”: doctrine of the creation through perception and “Ajata Vada” – the radical doctrine of non-creation. State the band, “This way, the phenomena is completely negated, eliminated and rightfully renunciated under all possible situations of any given philosophical, esoteric and religious narratives!”

Between sacred and profane!
Between words and silence!
Between purna and shunya!
Between life and death!

Beyond real and illusory!
Beyond the being and the non-being!

Totaling 11 songs across 45 minutes and containing perhaps the longest (or at least densest) song titles in metal history, Typho-Tantric Aphorisms From The Arachneophidian Qur’an reaps a whirlwind of pistons-pumping martial death metal made flesh through geysers of kaleidoscopic blood. Riffs bend, bruise, and batter, but not necessarily in that order; they’re always moving, however, and that movement is mesmerizing in its linear-yet-divergent flow. Vocals storm from above and below, world-eating to the extreme. Drums are literally insane, playing with psychotic precision and also fuck-everything barbarity. The production is as powerful and “pro” as any big-league death metal record past or present, hereby underling the fact that Tetragrammacide could challenge (and summarily decimate) any throne-holder or -pretender. This is not strictly an “underground” band nor record, although the roots and authenticity are no doubt there. Casting a wider, more-accurate net, Typho-Tantric Aphorisms From The Arachneophidian Qur’an should be viewed alongside such cyclonic classics as Krisiun’s Conquerors of Armageddon, Angelcorpse’s Exterminate, and Centvrian’s Liber ZarZax. “War metal” ghettoization simply does not apply to Tetragrammacide, and hasn’t for years now.

These transmissions are true.
These transmissions are false.
These transmissions are both true and false.
These transmissions are both not true and not false.
