Remember the famous blues legend about aspiring musicians meeting the devil at the crossroads, who offers artistic greatness in return for the souls of the eager seekers of fame? Well, a similar story can probably be told about NOCTURNAL GRAVES. Just exchange “fame” with “true old school spirit” and re-locate the fateful meeting to the very point where black, death, and thrash metal grow in and out of each other – with each of these sub-genres being expressed in their earlier incarnations.

At exactly those crossroads you will find ‘Titan’. The third full-length of the Australian veterans unashamedly celebrates the testosterone-driven raw aggression of the darker side of the ‘80s metal scene. Each riff hits home hard with as much passion as precision. NOCTURNAL GRAVES obviously love what they are doing and this shines through every brutal note. Song by song this band keep the flame burning and their uncompromising conviction as well as execution sets ‘Titan’ apart from random nostalgia and makes the album fully relevant within the contemporary metal setting.

NOCTURNAL GRAVES were originally formed in Melbourne, Australia in 2004. Two well received demos, ‘Profanation of Innocence’ and ‘Deathstorm’ followed in the same year. Quickly scoring a record deal, the band officially released the ‘Necromancer’ 7″ vinyl in 2006 before unleashing their cult debut full-length, ‘Satan’s Cross’ the following year, which was re-issued with the stunning cover art by renowned painter Paolo Girardi (INQUISITION, MANILLA ROAD, HIEROPHANT) in 2017.

When the Australians first hit Europe in 2009, they celebrated the event with ‘The Gravespirit Sessions’ split. Former DESTRÖYER 666 and RAZOR OF OCCAM guitarist Shrapnel, as well as drummer L.W., joined in 2012.

NOCTURNAL GRAVES widely extended their international fanbase with the release of sophomore album ‘…From the Bloodline of Cain’ (2014), which resulted in an invitation to the 2016 edition of Maryland Deathfest and more shows in the US. The band supported the tour with a limited 7″ EP ‘Sharpen the Knives / Lead us to the Endless Fire’.

Now, NOCTURNAL GRAVES are getting ready to conquer the world with their highly anticipated forthcoming third full-length. ‘Titan’ is in every sense as big as the album’s name implies. Prepare for impact!

This is a journey as much as it is an invitation, so load up your haversack and hit the dusty road!”

GLORIOR BELLI have released their latest full-length, ‘The Apostates’ on April 6th, 2018.

‘The Apostates’ is streaming in full

Artwork and album details regarding ‘The Apostates’ can be found below.

2. Deserters of Eden (4:09)

6. Jerkwater Redemption (4:10)

Total playing time: 47:27

For those who believe in deities and religion, an apostate is often far more despised and hated than followers of other creeds. The Greek word denotes a person who falls off and demonstrates that it is possible to leave the old faith behind to boldly go new ways and therefore shatters the image that any belief carries an undeniable ultimate truth. This defiant act is quite rightly identified as a threat to organised religion as others might follow the example and therefore was and is severely punished by excommunication or even death especially by monotheistic fanatics.

GLORIOR BELLI deliberately pierce this religious taboo with the title of their forthcoming seventh full-length, ‘The Apostates’, which should be understood as programmatic on many levels. Musically the French continue to grow out of their black metal roots, but each new song branches further outside the confines of stylistic orthodoxy. From the tell-tale opening “Sui Generis” to the unashamed heavy rock imbued title-track, GLORIOR BELLI obviously do not conform or bow down to any set of “rules” some self-proclaimed genre judges might try to impose.

GLORIOR BELLI emerged from the anger-ridden suburbs of Paris in December 2002. Their first statement of existence was a symbolic demo entitled ‘Evil Archaic Order’, which was released in June 2004.

From the raging, raw ferocity of their 2005 debut, ‘Ô Laudate Dominvs’ to their much praised 2007 release, ‘Manifesting the Raging Beast’ and further on to ‘Meet Us at the Southern Sign’ (2009), the French stalwarts steadily recalibrated their compass, moving exponentially forward towards the grim magnificence to be found on their fourth full-length, ‘The Great Southern Darkness’ (2011).

With a new deal under their belts, GLORIOR BELLI released fifth album ‘Gators Rumble, Chaos Unfurls’ in autumn 2013. This record has been described as a captivating mix of bluesy, heavy grooves, and some thickly distorting sludge. Yet their sixth opus, ‘Sundown’ (2016) came with another twist by redefining darkness again on the band’s own terms.

GLORIOR BELLI have always stayed true to the diabolical principles of black metal while carefully avoiding its most mind-numbing clichés. The band’s lyrics and themes reveal a recurrent penchant for rebellion and poetry.

With ‘The Apostates’, GLORIOR BELLI make a bold musical statement that reconciles the sound and tradition of black metal with a thirst for individualism and innovation. Don’t take these words on blind faith, listen for yourself!

Swedish melodic black metal force WORMLIGHT stream 2 songs from their forthcoming debut album

Hailing from Umeå, Sweden, melodic black metal entity WORMLIGHT was formed in 2014 under the moniker Unhallowed by King Antichrist (Drums) and Deafeathered (Guitar). Soon, Lator Mortis (Guitar) joined them, and they released their first EP “An Ancient Enemy” the same year. Shortly after the release, Arktos joined the band on Bass.

2015 saw lots of changes in the lineup, Deafeathered left the band and the band reached out to Tiamat Invictuz who joined the band in time for the recording of the “Bloodfields” EP. After the recording of the EP, Nordlyst left the band and Tiamat Invictuz took the duty of the vocals as well as guitar. At the same time, the band changed its name to Wormlight and changed the lyrical themes. In 2016, Wormlight re-released the EP “Bloodfields” via Black Lion Records, adding two bonus tracks with Tiamat’s vocals. The EP gave listeners a glimpse of what to expect from these northern warriors.

Forthcoming debut album “Wrath Of The Wilds” in an onward movement; it doesn’t only hark back to the spirit of the mid-90s Scandinavian black metal era, but also flourishes the spirit with the meticulously structured songs, and thus demands exaltation. Nine icy atmospheric tracks (including one intro), backed by spellbinding melodic solos, abundance of fast tremolo pickings, energetic hellfire invoking blasts and tenebrous shrieks intertwined with mid-ranged death growls. The cold and the deep atmosphere of the album is capable to ensure a dense and terrifying journey.

Album will be out via BLACK LION RECORDS on digipak (CD) and digital formats this April 25.

Track-List:
01. Wrath Of The Wilds
02. Reptilian King
03. Vittramark

This Gift Is A Curse announce new European shows

THIS GIFT IS A CURSE have released two sets of new European tour-dates. The first announcement comes under the heading “Weekender” and sees the Swedish back sludge beasts perform at the Creative Coast Festival in Karlshamn, Sweden and in the Danish capital Copenhagen on the third weekend in May.

The band comments: “From the beginning of this year, we said that we wouldn’t do any live shows until we were done with the recording of our new album, but when were asked to play the Creative Coast Festival, we just couldn’t say no. Originally a very cool event for gaming, multimedia, art and design, etc., it also has live bands as nighttime entertainment. Here is where we come in. We thought that it would be a great idea to take a break from the studio and try out some new songs live. We also managed to squeeze in Copenhagen at the same weekend, which is maybe our most favorite town to play. Expect new songs and new exclusive merch!”

At the same time, THIS GIFT IS A CURSE are announcing that they will be supporting Denmark’s HEXIS on the Northern leg of their European autumn tour.

The band states: “HEXIS is one of the best and most hardworking live bands out there, therefore it will be an honour to join them midway through their extensive Scandinavian tour. HEXIS is also one of those bands that we had our very first tours with when we started our band, which leaves us extremely thrilled to hit the road with them again. It will also be our first time in Finland, which we are really looking forward too!”

THIS GIFT IS A CURSE vomit forth a steady stream of pitch-black venomous hate. The Swedes passionately demonstrate that black metal remains fertile ground for new sounds. Combining elements of hardcore and sludge with influences from occult black metal as well as drone, ‘All Hail The Swinelord’ sets a new benchmark for vitriolic viciousness and massive sonic onslaught. The sophomore full-length of the band from Stockholm has turned out to be a vision of darkness that seeks its equal. THIS GIFT IS A CURSE were founded in Stockholm by a fateful chance meeting of vocalist Jonas A. Holmberg and drummer Johan Nordlund in late summer 2008. The duo soon recruited guitarist Patrik Andersson and Lars Gunnarsson on bass. In March 2010 the Swedish four-piece entered the legendary Sunlight Studios (ENTOMBED, KATATONIA, TIAMAT, DISMEMBER and many more) and recorded their self-titled debut EP with the aid of producer Tomas Skogsberg. ‘This Gift Is A Curse’ (2010) was well received in the underground and led to the band being invited to perform many shows in their homeland and Europe. During the second half of 2011, THIS GIFT IS A CURSE recorded their first full-length ‘I, Gvilt Bearer’ at a secret location north of Stockholm. Their producer Magbjork (MELEEH, CHILDREN OF FALL) moved his studio to this specific location to allow the band to unlimited record possibilities. Released in 2012, the album caused a buzz that reached beyond the underground and quickly sold out its first pressings. More touring followed during the next two years. In 2014, THIS GIFT IS A CURSE teamed up with Magbjork once again to record ‘All Hail The Swinelord’ in an abandoned house close to Stockholm. This monstrous black beast has now been unleashed!

CORPSEHAMMER: Premieres The EP “Perversión”; Cassette Out Now Via Morbid Skull Records

CORPSEHAMMER: PureGrainAudio Premieres The EP “Perversión”; Cassette Out Now Via Morbid Skull Records

Swedish hideous black/death metal horde CORPSEHAMMER released “Perversión”, the third chapter of their EP trilogy, via Morbid Skull Records.

Quoth the band on this release: “‘Perversión’ is the third part of the triology that started with ‘Sacrilegio’ and continued with ‘Posesión’. It has its own identity, but still the filthy, furious old black/death metal madness that is the soul of Corpsehammer. The lyrics on this EP are abstract, and by abstract we mean that there is not a specific story in each song but rather sentences and words not necessarily connected to each other but in some strange way the connect and the result was just pure fucking chaos and madness. Lyrically this beast is facing and dealing with the devil, perversion, darkness and death.”

Based in Dalarna, Sweden, CORPSEHAMMER is comprised of four degenerated forces (including Gaddur from Omnizide) from Chile and Sweden. The seed of CORPSEHAMMER was sown in the winter of 2016 to glorify and pay tribute to the primitive realm of extreme metal whence untamed and malicious sounding black and death metal used to sit on the throne. The unholy union is highly inspired from the First Wave of black metal, late 80s and early 90s Latin American and Australian extreme metal scenes.

The evil quartet is gearing up for releasing their third EP “Perversión” — the final chapter of the EP trilogy, started last March with “Sacrilegio” and followed by “Posesión” in last September. Corpsehammer keeps dishammering the existence of sacredness throughout the three repellent tracks of this chapter. The intensity of profanity and wickedness exceeds the parameter of the previous offerings. Corpsehammer is not willing to cease their demon invoking aural debauchery; the horde is on the way to become a force to be reckoned with amongst those having a penchant for horrendous sounding black/death metal.

The lyrics of this EP are abstract, there is no specific story or theme, words are not necessarily connected to each other but in some strange way the connection exists and the result is just relentless madness. Lyrically the tracks face and deal with the devil, perversion, darkness and death.

Get a thrill out of their menacing shouted voice, coldblooded riffs and devilishly charged drumming. On April 13, MORBID SKULL RECORDS conjured this dreadful EP on Blood Inked TAPES, limited to 99 copies, having 03 different colors – BLACK, GOLD & SILVER.

CARNIFEX (Finland) to have ’90s demos reissued on CD

Finnish death metal band Carnifex – NOT the horrible, trendy US deathcore outfit – is going to see all their demo recordings from ’91 to ’93 officially reissued on CD through Xtreem Music under the title of Pathological Rites.

This short-lived band from Finland, like most young Scandinavian death metal bands, lasted four years – from 1989 to 1993 – and recorded three demos, which are now being released with remastered sound, enhanced cover artwork by legendary Chris Moyen (who did their first demo cover back then) and a booklet full of photos, flyers, demo covers, and liner notes. Even though Carnifex didn’t cause a big impact in the scene, this is for sure a good legacy that every lover of good, old ’90s Finnish death metal will need to have in their collection.

Release date for Pathological Rites will be May 23rd through Xtreem Music.

DEATHWARDS set release date for INVICTUS debut, reveal first track

Today, Invictus Productions sets June 8th as the international release date for Deathwards’ striking debut demo, Towards Death.

Deathwards formed in 2017, comprising veterans of the metal underground, and within five months had recorded their very first demo, Towards Death. As aptly titled as their moniker, Deathwards’ Towards Death is a timeless, trend-bucking slab of thrashing Metal of Death. Across the five furious-yet-finessed songs here, the band conjoin the primal essence of ’80s Slayer, Slaughter Lord, Van Drunen-era Pestilence, and Voivod’s early work, but tweak it with a more technical aspect ala Sindrome, Sadus, and Obliveon, etc. It’s a classic-yet-fresh blend between influences and authentic ideas, instead of mere copycat-ism or rote rehashing of older, better ideas. Altogether, including a reverential cover of Infernal Majesty’s “Overlord,” Deathwards’ opening salvo is as furious as it is catchy, iron-clad in its approach yet bespeaking more development to come.

And Towards Death is but the start: already, Deathwards are preparing new material for their imminent debut album, also to be released by Invictus. Prepare to go Towards Death! Begin the march
with the new track “Epitaph From the Underworld.”

Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT will be touring in support of their latest album, ‘Finisterre’, which is still available in various formats via Season of Mist: http://smarturl.it/DWEFinisterre.

Please find artwork, track-list, and further information below.

1. Aufbruch (9:49)
2. Ein letzter Tanz (13:49)
3. Skepsis Part I (5:05)
4. Skepsis Part II (5:36)
5. Finisterre (11:13)

The musical puzzle that adds up to become DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT turns into something more complex – yet also clearer defined on the band’s fourth studio album, ‘Finisterre’. The original pieces are still in play: the aggressive German directness akin to ENDSTILLE and a penchant for brooding melancholy as embodied by IMPERIUM DEKADENZ. Spiralling psychedelic moments comparable to DEAFHEAVEN and WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM also find their place – as well as a knack for majestic melodies that shows parallels in Swedish black metal spearheaded by MARDUK and DARK FUNERAL.

Yet while DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT are clearly progressing along the lines laid out by their previous acclaimed effort, ‘Stellar’, the band has found a way to make these pieces fit more seamlessly. ‘Finisterre’ flows together into a coherent picture that stresses the Germans’ unique approach and sound. This album marks the point where DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT turn their various influences into a work entirely of their own expression despite never trying to cover up their roots. This impressive maturity has been reached through several stages.

Founded in 2009 by guitarist Nikita Kamprad and vocalist Tobias Jaschinsky,DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT garnered early attention with their self-released debut ‘Der Weg einer Freiheit’ (2009), which quickly sold out and was re-issued with new drum tracks a year later. Following the ‘Agonie’ EP (2011), their second album ‘Unstille’ (2012) already cored international acclaim. In the aftermath of this record, co-founding member Tobias left and main songwriter Nikita Kamprad took over his vocal duties.

The frontman was first heard on third full-length ‘Stellar’ (2015), which sawDER WEG EINER FREIHEIT gaining traction across the pond as well as expanding their European base. Having performed along such diverse acts as WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, NEAERA, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, AMENRA, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX, and DOWNFALL OF GAIA as well as playing prestigious festivals such as Graspop, Hellfest, Resurrection, Roadburn, Summer Breeze, and Wacken has honed the band’s songwriting skills to razor-sharp precision.

‘Finisterre’ clearly stands at the apex (for now) of the steep climb that DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT have taken. This German star is finally shining in full black.
