NATTVERD reveal first track from new OSMOSE album – also reveal cover art, tracklisting

With their sophomore full-length album, Styggdom, set for release on Osmose Productions on January 31st, 2020, fans of Norwegian black metallers Nattverd get their first taste of what to expect from the album with the debut of the track “Dragsvoll,” which can be heard here:
Formed two years ago and with a lineup of extremely experienced and talented musicians – comprised today of Serpentr on vocals, Ormr on vocals and guitars, Atyr on guitars, Sveinr on bass, and Antichristian (Tsjuder et. al.) on session drums – Nattverd has always sought to keep the actual identity of those musicians private, preferring that the band be judged purely on its music, as opposed to any former, current, or future bands or releases its members may be involved in.

Nattverd‘s extremely successful debut album, Vi Vet gud Er En Løgner, showed a band that played black metal in the traditional way: cold and nasty and filled with fury and hate. But with Styggdom, Nattverd have grown and expanded, here coming up with a much more varied and atmospheric album – an album that shows just how versatile this band can be when it comes to delivering black metal.

Drums, bass, guitars, and vocals for Styggdom were recorded at Velvet Recording, Spydeberg, Norway and engineered by Nattverd and Christer Krogh. Mixing and mastering was handled by Tore Stjerna at the Necromorbus Studios.

With artwork, layout and design by Khaos Diktator Design, Styggdom will be available in CD, vinyl LP, and digital formats. Preorder info can be found HERE.

ARKONA premiere “Age Of Capricorn”

[Press Release] ARKONA premiere “Age Of Capricorn”

Age Of Capricorn“, the seventh album from one of Poland’s leading Black Metal acts, ARKONA, is nearing its release through Debemur Morti Productions. With the album slated to drop in less than three weeks, Decibel Magazine is now hosting a stream of its mighty title track.

ARKONA is where the lightless spirits of second and third wave black metal assume modern form in an all too relatable maelstrom of degradation and disquiet, alienation and anger, hypnosis and horror. Recorded, mixed, and mastered at Impressive Art Studio, “Age Of Capricorn” is blessed with a crisp production that foregrounds a jackhammer relentlessness of near-industrial proportions, leaving the listener gasping for air as they are bludgeoned into inverted cathedrals of sound.

The album is completed with cover art and layout by Church Of Chaos Multimedia.Decibel writes in part with their premiere, “Aided by a flurry of icy riffs and an intense-but-clean production job, ‘Age Of Capricorn’ feels like the sonic equivalent to being trapped in the eye of a storm: despite the chaotic and turbulent nature of the song, ARKONA keep things neat and controlled. The end result is a song and album that black metal devotees would be mistaken to miss out on as the year and decade draw to a close.

Stream ARKONA’s “Age Of Capricorn” early only through Decibel right here.

Age Of Capricorn” will see release through Debemur Morti Productions on digipack CD, gatefold 12″ LP, a special edition gatefold 12″ LP limited to 100 copies, and all digital platforms on December 13th. Find preorders at the European webshop, North American webshop and Bandcamp.

ARKONA is currently plotting new tour dates to support “Age Of Capricorn“. The band is confirmed to play Metalowa Wigilia 2019 alongside SÓLSTAFIR, PRIMORDIAL, CARPATHIAN FOREST, and more on December 21st, and has already started confirming tour dates for the new year including Under The Black Sun Festival 2020 with NAGLFAR, MYSTIFIER and others on July 2nd.

Watch for updates to post in the months ahead.

Necrowretch reveal first track and details of forthcoming album

French Blackened Death metal outfit NECROWRETCH are now unveiling the first brand new track taken from their forthcoming masterpiece ‘The Ones From Hell’. The new album is scheduled for release on February 14th, 2020 via Season of Mist.
NECROWRETCH are now streaming their first offering “Luciferian Sovranty” here:
NECROWRETCH comment: “Today, it’s with pleasure that we spew our new creature onto the face of the earth. ‘The Ones From Hell’ is a brand new chapter in the history of Necrowretch. Beyond rules and boundaries, we have reached a new level of musical expression dedicated to the Devil and His many names. This unholy spawn will consist 8 new songs which perfectly serve our impious fascination for Hell. Yet again this monster will be unleashed by the mighty Season of Mist. Down below the gates are opening for the “Luciferian Sovranty”… Hail Satan!
NECROWRETCH are furthermore releasing the artwork of ‘The Ones From Hell’, which has been created by Stefan Thanneur, and can be viewed together with the album details below.
Track-list
1. Pure Hellfire (6:54)
2. Luciferian Sovranty (4:01)
3. The Ones From Hell (4:12)
4. Absolute Evil (2:39)
5. Codex Obscuritas (5:49)
6. Darkness Supreme (5:27)
7. Through The Black Abyss (3:25)
8. Necrowretch (4:37)
Total: 37:04
With the previous album ‘Satanic Slavery ‘, French blackened death metal masters NECROWRETCH delivered a culmination of the first ten years of the band’s existence and it was with that album all previous tendencies were met in perfect sync. Yet this new offering is the opening of a brand-new chapter. Still furious and satanic yet those who will dare to listen to it in its entirety will discover new musical paths while remaining faithful to their roots.

NECROWRETCH spawned in 2008 by front man Vlad. After several demos and EPs, the band immediately hit the scene hard when in 2013 their debut full-length ‘Putrid Death Sorcery’ arrived with a massive impact. Their strong roots in the underground were emphasized with a following compilation of earlier material under the name ‘Bestial Rites’ the same year. With their next albums ‘With Serpents Scourge’ (2015) and ‘Satanic Slavery’ (2017), NECROWRETCH added some musical twists and turn that showed some influences by Swedish black death pioneers such as DARK FUNERAL, DISSECTION or MARDUK.

During 2018, Vlad went to Istanbul in order to write the next album in a completely new environment. As Vlad always writes the Necrowretch albums in the order they’ll be sequenced, his new surroundings and past experiences pushed him towards new musical horizons. Never had the music this much variety in one album.

Like its predecessor ‘Satanic Slavery’ (2017), ‘The Ones From Hell’ was recorded as a three-piece in February 2019. The session lasted over ten days at the Blackout Studio in Brussels with ‘Phorgath’ from EMPTINESS as producer. Alan Douches, who worked with everybody from BARONESS to CANNIBAL CORPSE or DEICIDE, then carefully took care of the mastering job.

NECROWRETCH spent almost a year on writing the new opus and it’s their most personal work to date. It still sounds very much like NECROWRETCH, yet it’s almost a whole new band. Forget what other people say.

You can judge a book by its cover. What you see is what you get with NECROWRETCH: Pure Satanic Death Metal!

Sweden’s REAPER set release date for IRON BONEHEAD debut album, reveal first track

Today, Iron Bonehead Productions announces January 31st, 2020 as the international release date for the striking debut album of Sweden’s Reaper, Unholy Nordic Noise, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Like a blast from Bathorian dungeons, Reaper burst forth from muck of time eternal with their debut demo, Ravenous Storm of Piss, in early 2019 via Iron Bonehead. Ever aptly titled, this three-song firestorm whipped forth a fury of ancient witching metal, attacking with spell. Now, the return of darkness and evil comes with their fucking-PERFECTLY-titled debut album, Unholy Nordic Noise.

Reprising those same three demo tracks but in re-recorded form, Unholy Nordic Noise is ten-song assault of sulfurous, punkish First-Wave Black Metal Exclusively bookended by seamless intro and outro. In just a mere 29 minutes, the unholy duo of Reaper rip asunder the present and recast the past in crude ‘n’ rude form. Thick and viscous is their thrust, the latent D-beat discharging possibilities of life’s destruction, while the orkish vokills spill gism all over one’s sanity and safety. It’s a simple attack, but far from simplistic: this kind of delirious devilry requires the nuance and nous of a true aesthete. Thus, Unholy Nordic Noise is everything it promises…and far more!

But find out for yourself as you peer into those dungeons, pondering whether to cross the threshold into Reaper‘s domain. Unholy Nordic Noise will drive you mad!

Take the first step over that threshold with the brand-new track “Horn of Hades” here:
Cover and tracklisting are as follows:
Tracklisting for Reaper (Sweden)’s Unholy Nordic Noise

2. Hero of the Graveyard Flies
3. Severing Tentacles of Faith

Orthodox black metal upstarts Serpens Luminis stream the entirety of their debut album

Today, orthodox black metal upstarts Serpens Luminis stream the entirety of their striking debut album, Bright Euphoria.
Set for international release today via Goathorned Productions, hear Serpens LuminisBright Euphoria in its entirety here:
True to their roots plunged into occultism and mysticism, faithful to their need to explore the profound depths of the human inner-self, the entity called Serpens Luminis appears at dawn of the year 2015. After several months of introspection, the first emanation took place in 2017 through the title Usque Ad Sideras et Usque Ad Inferos, being a split CD with fellow Swiss hordes Nansis and Haruspex. Now, in 2019, a new offering emerges from the mist: Bright Euphoria.

Serpens Luminis is a meditation whose purpose is to move towards an enlightened understanding regarding the ways to channel the Black Flame and let it run with the ecstatic fury of the Kundalini rising to Sahasrāra – a spiritual and obsessive quest in order to be finally able to bear the solemn and powerful devotion dedicated to the glorification of Daath; a reverence towards the 11-headed Dragon, the silhouette with 32 pairs of wings and innumerable eyes. Or, put more concretely, rich ‘n’ robust black metal imbued with both muscle and atmosphere, spectral shapes guided by an iron fist: orthodox, spiritual, but utterly unbound. Dynamic vibration, ceremonial in every aspect but never overly labored: Bright Euphoria is an infinitely illuminating 28 minutes of mastery, that Black Flame indeed burning brightly across the mini-album’s three component tracks.

A few live rituals are led in order to bring an aural and carnal painting of a primordial link, a numinous bridge between the spiritual chaos of Masak Mavdil and the luminous arabesques of the 288 divine sparks melted with blasphemous fragments of the sephirot vessels. Be ready to endure Thy light who will initiate to quiver and whirl around the primordial vibrations of Ain Soph: a kind of tombstone for our carnal shape, a tombstone which begins to radiate with an unearthly glare. An odd glow, growing brighter at each pulse…

Verily, behold Serpens LuminisBright Euphoria and submit to its life-giving/ending glow.

BLACK METAL ASSASSIN DAGGER CULT SICARIUS UNVEIL VIDEO FOR NEW SONG “A PRACTICED HAND”

September 15, 2019 – Los Angeles, CA – The California-based SICARIUS – whose sonic nihilism has been praised by Metal Hammer as “USBM with serious forward thrust” – have unveiled a lyric video for “A Practiced Hand,” the first taste of the group’s forthcoming second album “God Of Dead Roots.” The clip – which was designed by Rafael Ortega of Ecliptic Visions, can be seen here:

“A Practiced Hand” is also now available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp and other digital platforms. The song is an ominous sign of things to come on “God Of Dead Roots,” which – like the group’s 2017 acclaimed full-length debut “Serenade of Slitting Throats” – was produced by Mick Kenney (Anaal Nathrakh, Benediction, Empyrean Throne).

Due out via M-Theory Audio in early 2020, the album marks the recording debut of new guitarist Travis “Grimnir” Whiting (Carnifex, Ruines Ov Abaddon), who was hand-picked by SICARIUS’ founding guitarist Argyris to be his successor last year.

Additional information on the release will be revealed in the coming weeks.   “In preparation of the upcoming album ‘God Of Dead Roots’, the dagger cult presents to you our chosen spearhead for this release. ‘A Practiced Hand’ is the first staunch and discordant representation of what’s to come,” explains Grimnir. “While staying familiar with the band’s philosophy and crushing sound, new extremes within this adrenaline pumping formula have been reached. This track extends its meaning to those dedicated within their craft. Strictly adherent to the refinement of their chosen pursuit and fervently loyal to its principles. To the unsung and faceless assassins; once devoted in purpose, and unflinching to the temptations of glory.”

Founded five years ago, SICARIUS – whose moniker means contract killer or assassin in Latin – draw influence from and pay homage to classic black metal bands, yet also inject a modern, high-velocity sense of immediacy into their bludgeoning and bloodthirsty extreme metal assault. The group has performed extensively in the Western U.S. alongside such genre heavyweights as Carach Angren, Uada, 1349, Goatwhore, Vader, Helheim, Sadistic Intent, Skeletal Remains, Wolvhammer, Sixes, Witch Casket and Tombs.

The group’s next live performance will take place tomorrow (Nov. 16) at the annual Ruinfest in Santa Ana, California sharing the stage with label mates Helsott and Novareign, amongst others.    “Combining black metal with a violent immediacy and pairing it with their bloody, corpse-painted aesthetic, SICARUS have found a style that sets them apart.” — Decibel

SWEDISH MELANCHOLIC BLACK METAL TRIO OFDRYKKJA DEBUT NEW SONG, “SWALLOWED BY THE NIGHT”

Revered Swedish experimental black-metal band OFDRYKKJA will release their third full-length album, Gryningsvisor, on November 29th with AOP Records. The band has debuted the record’s latest offering, “Swallowed By The Night,

Commenting on the song, Pessimisten (vocals, horns) says, “The lyrics of ‘Swallowed by the Night’ is written in short sequences, like nightmares a sub conscience would create, based on the current state of mind. Stories made out of unprocessed emotions. It is truly a dark song, as dark as the night – but even the longest of nights will have its dawn, and while this song tells the stories of a long struggle, it is in fact about those first, warm sun rays piercing through the trees, after a very long and cold night.”

PRE-ORDER GRYNINGSVISOR: AOP Records (EU-Shop) https://shop.aoprecords.de AOP Records (US-Shop) https://www.indiemerchstore.com/b/aop-records

In case it was missed, stream band’s previously released song “The Swan”: https://youtu.be/35MYohCMuxo

Formed eight years ago out of necessity to cope with agonizing depression, debilitating addiction and endless pain, OFDRYKKJA has seen the light amongst the darkness for their latest record, which translates to “Ballads At Dawn.” After years of self-inflicted turmoil and suffering, the trio has found solace in healing and self-reflection which is heard on their latest evolution, Gryningsvisor.

Eight years ago, three darkness consumed men seeked to ventilate their seemingly endless struggle through addiction and mental illness conjured their first album “A life worth losing“.

Drabbad was gunned down by police and spent a three year prison sentence, with most of the songs on their second album written from within the prison walls. Having hit rock bottom, the band sought a way out of that dark wilderness, releasing “Irrfärd” (which translates to ‘Aimless journey’). Following the release the band went their separate ways to pursue personal journeys that eventually led them to find peace in sobriety and awakening purpose, and ultimately to their forthcoming record, Gryningsvisor.

Drabbad adds, “Ofdrykkja has always been an instrument of therapy for us, and therapy exists to help one evolve. It would serve us no purpose to walk in old footsteps, and neither would it be authentic to force it. We hope you appreciate our evolution, both personal and musical.”

Lineup: Drabbad –  Vocals, Guitars, Acoustic guitars, Electronics, Bass, Drums

Ahlström – Backing vocals, Guitars, Bass, Acoustic guitars, Electronics, Celtic lyre, Violin

SIJJIN to release debut demo, distributed by SEPULCHRAL VOICE – includes NECROS CHRISTOS members+++

Sepulchral Voice Records is proud to distribute Sijjin‘s striking debut demo, Angel of the Eastern Gate, on cassette tape format.

Although a brand-new entity in name, Sijjin actually includes a wealth of experience within their ranks: both vocalist/bassist Malte Gericke and drummer Iván Hernández hail from underground legends Necros Christos, while fleet-fingered guitarist Ekaitz Garmendia has a long history of thrash with Spain’s Extinction, Legen Beltza, and The Great Wound. Together, under the moniker of SijjinHell is Sijjin / Sijjin is in Hell – the power-trio transcend their past with a powerful iteration of timeless, thrashing death metal.

With Gericke handling the lyrics with his customary aplomb and the whole band writing everything together, it’s no wonder that Angel of the Eastern Gate is a neckbreaking whirlwind of epic deathrash. Sijjin‘s execution here is literally sharp – like, RAZOR-fucking-SHARP – and their songwriting suitably surges and sidesteps with malicious intent. Mind-melted solos divebomb with devilish delight, and often. Atop, Gericke’s throat of Hell heralds the hordes onward like the lord of all fevers and plagues.

References to be made include classic Necrovore, The Eyes of Horror-era Possessed, and Blackfire-era Sodom but most especially early Incubus and ’80s Morbid Angel. However, far from being a “blast from the past,” Sijjin recast this noble foundation in the present, seeking hellish victory – which is most undoubtedly assured once Sepulchral Voice releases Angel of the Eastern Gate on CD and vinyl in the coming year. Talks have commenced regarding the label releasing the band’s imminent debut album, but that doom shall dawn some other day…

In the meantime, stream the entirety of Angel of the Eastern Gate at Sijjin‘s Bandcamp here:

Irish black metal enigma Fuil Na Seanchoille streams second album, The Crossing

FUIL NA SEANCHOILLE stream new ME SACO UN OJO / TOUR DE GARDE album at “Decibel” magazine’s website

Today, Irish black metal enigma Fuil Na Seanchoille streams its highly anticipated second album, The Crossing.
Set for international release on November 14th via Me Saco Un Ojo Ojo in conspiracy with Tour de Garde, hear Fuil Na Seanchoille‘s The Crossing in its entirety here:
Formed in 2008, Fuil Na Seanchoille is a black metal entity hailing from Ireland, helmed by mainman Satyrign, whose experience in the international hardcore-punk underground is incredibly prolific. Two demos resulted those first two years, which would later be released together on vinyl by Me Saco Un Ojo Ojo in 2012. Completely DIY, Fuil Na Seanchoille‘s first two demos were remarkably developed, evincing a psychedelic bestiality that ravaged the body and bent the mind in equal measure. In 2011 came the band’s debut album, Hunger, first released on cassette by Tour de Garde and then on vinyl by Me Saco Un Ojo Ojo. Expanding on the demos’ firm & filthy foundation, here Satyrign explored a unique “complex simplicity,” entrancing the listener with a strangely alluring sort of grime.

Alas, those dualities have reached an apotheosis with Fuil Na Seanchoille‘s long-awaited second album, The Crossing. Horror and beauty, the beast vs. transcendent man, strident minimalism colliding with labyrinthine layering: The Crossing is indeed an ambitious work, comprised of a single 29-minute composition formed over an eight-year period, crafted to induce maximum out-of-body/out-of-mind exploration. Black metal is undoubtedly the framework for Fuil Na Seanchoille still, yet the manner in which Satyrign here wields it is incredibly idiosyncratic, to say the least. Lapping waves upon a distant forlorn shore, The Crossing begins with a plaintive female voice singing a funereal lament in Gaelic (to wit: the band’s moniker means “Blood of the Old Forest” in same), and a tense placidity is heightened as the record plays on, until sparkling shimmers of chorused guitar and gurgling bass explode into a torrent of emotion. From there, the catharsis continues to build, on and on and on, infinitely so yet circumscribing the listener’s headspace, dwarfing that listener when contemplating the enormity of this experience. Still, like any journey at some point, a kindling of hope lingers…or does it?

Sick and cyclic, The Crossing beckons the hardiest of travelers, both dungeon trawlers and cosmonauts alike. Fuil Na Seanchoille point the way – and may perhaps even pierce the veil – will you journey through that void?

Also on November 14th, CD editions of the self-titled compilation and Hunger (both remastered at Enormous Door) will be issued alongside a limited cassette containing reinterpretations of The Cure and Dead Can Dance.
