NEBULAR CARCOMA to release DARVULIA demos compilation – classic French black metal from ancient times

Today, Nebular Carcoma sets October 21st as the international release date for a special compilation from Darvulia, Acte Dix: Démos, on vinyl LP format.

For those who dwelled in the ’90s black metal underground and intrepidly moved into the new millennium knowing that foul changes were afoot, all contrary to notions of true “black metal” being supposedly “dead” at the time due to its progenitors breaking up or (mostly) moving on to careerist aspirations, Darvulia should need no introduction. However, considering the band formed in 1999 and went to the grave 16 years later, perhaps a refresher is in order…
Darvulia hailed from the esteemed French black metal underground – and by “French,” we mean the lineage that started with the Black Legions and then carried forward with the likes of Osculum Infame, Blessed in Sin, Funeral, Bekhira, Seigneur Voland, Hirilorn, Winter Funeral, and very early Seth – that would blossom into something else entirely as that new millennium went on. Old souls from the start, Darvulia honorably maintained the ripped-raw sickliness of the Black Legions with the more medieval atmosphere of that second generation, in effect keeping the flame burning for both distinctly French paradigms. Their infamy in the underground largely hinged upon their albums, starting with 2002’s L’Ombre malicieuse (on the supremely cult D.U.K.E. label) and then 2005’s L’Alliance des venins and 2010’s Mysticisme macabre. As can be surmised by that chronology, Darvulia patiently parceled out their creations, prizing quality over quantity, and not once misstepped during their existence.

It can be successfully argued that Darvulia‘s full-lengths portray the band at their most developed – or, conservatively speaking, at their most professionally recorded – but where the stench of true black metal is at its foulest is generally a band’s demos, and the same can be said for Darvulia. Thus, Nebular Carcoma is devilishly pleased to compile the Darvulia demos Shabattu, danse lunaire (2001) and L’odeur du corbeau mort (2002) plus an unreleased Darkthrone cover (“The Dance of Eternal Shadows”) onto a full-length vinyl LP, hereby titled Acte Dix: Démos. This collection displays Darvulia at their rawest and most unadorned, yet within such a seemingly hideous soundscape does a remarkable sense of refinement exist. Even this early on, these French vampires maintained a uniquely malaised sense of melody, owing in part to the diseased groundwork laid by Mütiilation (certainly not a secret influence: just look at the cover of L’odeur du corbeau mort), but arguably more drugged-out and delirious than their not-inconsiderable forebears. Of course, there existed within Darvulia‘s world a perverted sense of vampirism, much like there was during the days of the Black Legions, that was far, far away from the circus “black metal” created by certain top-hatted clowns. But, within the rosy glow of context, we can justifiably assert that Darvulia‘s vampiric black metal here is as pure and proud as it comes.

As time inevitably moves on and the past becomes a distant memory, rekindled torches need to shine light on the darkest corridors of that past. As such, Nebular Carcoma is exhuming the corpse of Darvulia and reanimating their black-leather wings with this noble vinyl edition of Acte Dix: Démos.

Full stream to be revealed during week of release. Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

American blackened rockers CLOAK premiere music video for “Into the Storm”

American blackened rockers CLOAK are premiering the second track from their new album. The song “Into the Storm” is streaming below. The new record, ‘The Burning Dawn’, is set for worldwide release on October 25.
CLOAK comment: “‘Into The Storm’ is one of our most aggressive and epic songs to date. We wanted the visuals to be just as unnerving and majestic as the music itself. Once again, this video was produced and crafted fully by the band members. Now revel in the ecstasy of darkness unbound!”
The artwork of ‘The Burning Dawn’ has been created by Adam Burke and can be viewed below, together with the tracklist.
Track-list
1. March Of The Adversary (1:33)
2.The Cleansing Fire (5:19)
3. A Voice In The Night (5:09)
4. Tempter’s Call (5:46)
5. Into The Storm (6:41)
6. Lifeless Silence (6:50)
7. The Fire, The Faith, The Void (4:19)
8. On Poisoned Ground (4:59)
9. Where The Horrors Thrive (8:26)
Total playing time: 49:03
Unyielding darkness and brutality emerge from the deep south of the United States.  Atlanta, GA based quartet CLOAK blend the sounds of black metal, rock ‘n’ roll, and homegrown Southern sludge to create their own unique and menacing sound.

Their debut full-length, ‘To Venomous Depths,’ (2017) was met with critical acclaim upon its release. Decibel Magazine placed it at #20 among their “Top 40 Albums of 2017,” solidifying the band’s place among the heavy metal elite. Now, CLOAK is back with ‘The Burning Dawn,’ a riff-heavy and groove-laden follow-up that proves the band are still rife with fresh ideas.

Conceptually, the record comes from a place below the surface where the sleepless and sinister dwell, and is absorbed by the darkest of dreams and the most primal desires. Musically, this exploration takes the gothic nuances of its predecessor while abandoning any hesitation in exchange for a more aggressive and vehement spirit.

While rippers like “On Poisoned Ground” and “Into the Storm” deliver a fury of soulful aggression, songs like “Lifeless Silence” and “The Fire, The Faith, The Void” offer a darker, gothic essence, ultimately displaying CLOAK’s multi-faceted and dynamic musical diversity. So, raise your fists and set fire to the world; this is ‘The Burning Dawn’.

As such, their muscular & miasmic black metal sound is more a maw of hellishly humid frequencies all emanating a cruel & commanding righteousness. Dikasterion proved as much with their debut demo last year, and follow it up with yet two more attacks showing a further finessing of their no-less-raw fury. Unremittingly dark, dingy, and diseased, Stavelot 1597 / Rome 897 is a swift sojourn into this band’s ever-deepening abyss. Submerge thyself!

AEGRUS to release new 7″ EP through PURITY THROUGH FIRE, reveal first track

Today, Purity Through Fire sets October 31st as the international release date for a special EP from AegrusWolves Howl Revenge, on 7″ vinyl format.

Hailing from Kouvola, Aegrus is a Finnish black metal band formed in 2005 by vocalist Darkseer Incuta and guitarist Lux Tenebris to act as a vision about Satanic devotion and mockery against Christianity – a vision that, over the years, has grown deeper and more holistic with its misanthrophic outlook about Lucifer/Satan, with light and darkness acting as a guiding force behind the members’ passionate interest towards darkness, occult, self-development, and transcendental knowledge.

Aegrus operated the first ten years of its existence deep in the underground, steadily keeping the black flame growing by forging a series of demos and the Luciferian Engravings in 2011. The pact with Satan finally started to manifest when it gave birth to their debut album, Devotion for the Devil, in 2015, released by France’s cult Drakkar Productions. A year later, Finnish label Hammer of Hate released their EP Conjuring the Old Echoes as a celebration of the past decade. This eventually led to the deal with another Finnish label, Saturnal Records, and the bond with Devil grew even stronger as their even-stronger second album, Thy Numinous Darkness, came out in October 2017.

During this time, Aegrus have justly earned a reputation for their powerful live shows and have now morphed into a four-man group, as long-time session live members Serpentifer (drums) and Praestigiator (guitars) joined their ranks. And now, in 2019, the band are prepared to unleash two Satanic strikes: a new album titled In Manus Satanas and a two-song 7″ for Purity Through Fire titled Wolves Howl Revenge. Indeed aptly titled, Wolves Howl Revenge is a swift ‘n’ decisive attack of black metal lycanthropy, featuring two new and exclusive songs. As ever, Aegrus are unapologetically Finnish through and through: harsh and hysteric, yet never forgetting the burning black fire of majestic melodicism. Just as cold and raw as before, but distilled effortlessly into an essence that’s traditional in the non-pejorative sense – this is FINNISH BLACK METAL, in all caps. Hark, for Wolves Howl Revenge

The first howl of revenge can be heard with the brand-new track “Wolves of Belial”

Norwegian black metal titans 1349 have returned with their long awaited seventh full-length: ‘The Infernal Pathway’. The album promises a journey through chaos and madness, darkness and peril, terror and annihilation.

1349 is AURAL HELLFIRE.  That has been, and continues to be, the primary concept since the band first rose from the ashes of Alvheim in 1997.  Conceived around the founding members – vocalist and former drummer Ravn, guitarist Tjalve, and Seidemann on bass – 1349 completed their line-up with the addition of guitarist Archaon in 1999 and SATYRICON drum-legend Frost in 2001.

When their debut ‘Liberation’ was unleashed in 2003, the Norwegians took the world by storm with their intense blend of old school black metal soundscapes and ultra-fast aggression. Further assaults followed in rapid succession. ‘Beyond the Apocalypse’ (2004) and ‘Hellfire’ (2005) cemented the band’s reputation as one of the strongest acts in the scene.

Upon the departure of founding member Tjalve, who decided to focus on his band PANTHEON I, 1349 have since continued as a four-piece – occasionally adding guest guitarists. Extensive touring aided the growth of their now massive following when the four piece opened for reunited metal legends CELTIC FROST in North America in 2006.

Impressively demonstrating that holding true to the principles of the genre do not mean nostalgia and stagnation, 1349 widened their sonic palette with  ‘Revelations of the Black Flame’ (2009), which was co-mixed by CELTIC FROST mastermind Tom Gabriel “Warrior” Fischer. This inspired a newfound ambient darkness from the band, which was further explored on ‘Demonoir’ (2010).

‘Massive Cauldron of Chaos’ (2013) was the next milestone in the Norwegians merciless advance, scoring excellent reviews and a nomination for a Norwegian Grammy (Spellemannprisen). The release sparked more festival shows as well as extensive touring, bringing 1349 to Australia and New Zealand. In 2018, the Munch Museum and Innovation Norway chose 1349 as one of four bands to create a song based on the paintings of Edvard Munch. As a result, the single ‘Dødskamp’ was released earlier this year.

After performing a fiery show at Norway’s Inferno festival this year, 1349 started recording in Amper Tone studios and Studio Nyhagen with engineer Jarrett Pritchard. Thus, ‘The Infernal Pathway’ was born, a sonic parallel to summoning and unleashing the beast of the abyss in all its fearsome, ferocious and powerful splendor.

Gearing up for a full U.S. tour in the fall, and a European tour with ABBATH and VLTIMAS in 2020, more events will unfold, making this a banner year for 1349.

OZBM elite Runespell stream the entirety of its highly anticipated third album, Voice of Opprobrium

Today, OZBM elite Runespell stream the entirety of its highly anticipated third album, Voice of Opprobrium. Set for international release on September 6th via Iron Bonehead Productions, hear Runespell‘s Voice of Opprobrium in its entirety here:
Since this Australian entity’s public unveiling in 2017 with the Aeons of Ancient Blood demo (released by Iron Bonehead), Runespell has sharpened its sword and quickly, with two albums – 2017’s Unhallowed Blood Oath and last year’s Order of Vengeance – arriving less than a year apart. Now arrives the new full-length Voice of Opprobrium a year after the last, and the iron’s hotter than ever. Here, Runespell consolidates its all-too-considerable strengths, suitably balancing the grandiose melancholy vs. bloodlust axis of Unhallowed Blood Oath and the urgency and unquenchable desperation of Order of Vengeance. Similarly, mainman Nightwolf maximizes the melancholy of his now-characteristic acoustic interludes, instilling Voice of Opprobrium with a somberness that chills to the fucking bone.

And once again, underpinning everything is an authentic and austere steeping in early ’90s black metal classicism. Be it from Scandinavia or France or particularly Poland, such source material has been so widely replicated year after year, and yet Runespell elusively continues to be able to both handily challenge those classics AND resound like an era-relevant relic. It’s not surprising, considering Nightwolf is one of the busiest men in the shit-hot Australian black metal scene, maintaining as he does the equally prolific Eternum and Blood Stronghold. While still bearing aesthetic similarities to those two bands – this is the purest, most mystical black metal after all – with Order of Opprobrium, Runespell further solidifies its majestic rumination on the mysteries of war and bloodshed, vengeance and valor, memory and destiny. Dedication and sacrifice – spiritually, above all, as well as physically – are once again the watchwords, and they’ve resulted in black metal wielded as weapon, totem, and portal simultaneously.

Mesmerizing, majestic, iron-girded and iron-willed Runespell‘s Voice of Opprobrium is the torch to burn modernity down to the ground.

BLACK METAL ASSASSIN DAGGER CULT SICARIUS FINISH TRACKING NEW ALBUM, GOD OF DEAD ROOTS

August 25, 2019 – Los Angeles, CA – Hailed by Metal Hammer as “USBM with serious forward thrust,” the nihilistic assassin dagger cult SICARIUS have finished recording their new album, “God Of Dead Roots,” the follow-up to their acclaimed 2017 full-length debut “Serenade of Slitting Throats.”   Due to be released in early 2020 via M-Theory Audio, “God Of Dead Roots” was once again produced by Mick Kenney (Anaal Nathrakh, Benediction, Empyrean Throne). It marks the recording debut of new guitarist Travis “Grimnir” Wilheim (Carnifex, As Blood Runs Black), who was hand-picked by SICARIUS’ founding guitarist Argyris to be his successor last year.   The band recently issued the following update: “The time has come! With a new arsenal of sonic terrorism, SICARIUS completes the recording process once again. Retaining and purifying our razor-sharp brand of chaotic black metal, this new album entitled ‘God of Dead Roots’ exceeds the standard set by our previous work. With the addition of new guitarist Grimnir, we continue to explore the violent aspects of first- and second-wave black metal with an increased fervor. All primary production responsibilities were performed by returning master Mick Kenney of horror-metal pioneers Anaal Nathrakh, assuring our relentless pursuit of auditory extremes.”   Founded five years ago, SICARIUS – meaning contract killer or assassin in Latin – draw influence from and pay homage to classic black metal bands, yet also inject a modern, high-velocity sense of immediacy into their bludgeoning and bloodthirsty extreme metal assault. The group has performed extensively in the Western U.S. alongside such genre heavyweights as Carach Angren, Uada, 1349, Goatwhore, Vader, Helheim, Sadistic Intent, Skeletal Remains, Wolvhammer, Sixes, Witch Casket and Tombs.   Experience SICARIUS live: 8/24 San Diego, CA – The Merrow w/ Mictlantecuhlti, Ruines Ov Abaddon 8/31 Lancaster, CA – American Legion w/ Master, Claustrofobia 9/21 Los Angeles, CA – Five Star Bar w/ Highland, Imperialist   “Theirs is a vision steeped in anger and aggression, a noxious brew of blackened thrash with a healthy pinch of genre-appropriate misanthropy to aid in fermentation.” – Invisible Oranges“Combining black metal with a violent immediacy and pairing it with their bloody, corpse-painted aesthetic, SICARIUS have found a style that sets them apart.” – Decibel   SICARIUS is: K. BLACK CURSE reveal first track from SEPULCHRAL VOICE debut, to play Killtown Deathfest

Today, Sepulchral Voice Records reveals the first track from Black Curse. Titled “Charnel Rift,” the track is the first to be revealed from Black Curse‘s striking debut album for Sepulchral Voice, Endless Wound, to be released later this autumn on CD and vinyl LP formats.
Hear Black Curse‘s “Charnel Rift” in its entirety here:
Black Curse is a cryptic expression of madness & possession – a vision of Hell, a revelry of torment. Inspired but not indebted to North American, South American, Finnish, and German masters, Black Curse finds its own voice amongst the chaos and ruin of those before. This is an expression with no regard for current trends or stylistic narrowness.

Hailing from Denver, Colorado, Black Curse will be making their international debut at this year’s Killtown Deathfest in Copenhagen, Denmark on September 6th. Release date for Endless Wound to be announced imminently.

NUPTA CADAVERA set release date for NUCLEAR WAR NOW! EP – includes members of Denmark’s Korpsånd Circle

Today, Nuclear War Now! Productions sets September 15th as the international release date for Nupta Cadavera‘s striking debut EP, Nupta Cadavera, on 7″ vinyl format.

With this debut EP, Nupta Cadavera make a defiant proclamation of purpose. The membership of the band is largely unknown, except that it is comprised of an international group of musicians, including members of the Korpsånd Circle in Denmark. Gaining wider recognition in the last few years, the many bands affiliated with Korpsånd and their Mayhem venue/rehearsal space have collectively broadened the spectrum of the Danish black metal scene.

The two songs on this self-titled EP possess a distinctive approach, one that reflects a self-annihilating synthesis of sounds commingled. The band’s name draws upon this trait. “Nupta Cadavera,” Latin for “marriage with a corpse,” signifies the union of the living with the dead, the twin pillars of existence, entangled, symmetrically braided. The two tracks feature the gilded glint of guitars, metallic and bold, crashing together and coiled around the melodic thrust of the keyboards, the two elements at times clashing in a brassy display of internecine discordance. Nested within the compositional armature of the songs, the vocals, desperate and grim, break the tension. The dissonance is then sculpted in the service of songs that are punchy, succinct, and imminently listenable, immediately commanding repeat plays.

It is difficult to reconcile the quality of these songs with the fact that this is the band’s debut recording, and one hopes more will soon follow.
