KARG reveal new video from upcoming AOP RECORDS album – features E-L-R

Today, black metal iconoclasts Karg reveal the new video EBBE//FLUT.” The track is the third single from the band’s highly anticipated eighth album, Resignation, set for international release on November 25th via AOP Records. Featuring E-L-R,  see & hear Karg‘s “EBBE//FLUT here:

Says the band about the track, “‘Grab der Wellen’ (Grave of the Waves / Waves Grave) is the third track of Resignation. Lyrically, this song is about melancholy and that the people feeling that way will never be entirely free of agony and the wish to die. They court death by putting themselves in risky situations, live in the fast lane, or simply burn from both ends. They die way too soon, not literally by killing themselves, but by going one step too far. And in the end, nothing will be left of them, except their love and the memories shared while they were near us and close.”

Karg was founded back in the summer of 2006 as a one-man project. Between 2010 and 2014, Karg was fully formed as a band to play gigs, formally in Germany, Austria, and Central Europe. In the years through 2018, Karg was, like in its beginning, held as a one-man project and solely released albums. With the release of Karg‘s sixth studio album, Dornenvögel, the band celebrated its rebirth as a live unit with special dates in 2018 and 2019. They did their first real tour supporting their seventh album, Traktat, in February 2020.

At the beginning of 2021, main songwriter J.J. took a long hiatus from the world and lived in a cabin in the woods, where he wrote the main part what should become Karg‘s eighth album, Resignation. A unique album to be sure, Resignation will see Karg will release a bonus 7″ containing two perhaps-surprising covers of Nothing and the Cranberries, translated into German. Equally unique, Resignation features a variety of different musicians such as both vocalists of E-L-R, Klara from Firtan on violin, P.G. from Groza, and Private Paul, a hip-hop artist from Hamburg. With all the help of these great musicians and a grandiose mastering from Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Oathbreaker, and many more), Resignation proves to be one of Karg‘s most experimental and diverse albums.

The musical style of Karg is still a furious, hysteric mixture of atmospheric black metal and a huge load of post-punk, with significant influences also from grunge, shoegaze, and post-punk. In recent years, the influences from other genres outside of black metal evolved more and more, but they were there, in abridged form, since day one. Lyrically and texturally, Karg was always focused on the more melancholic side of life, such as broken relationships, lost love, estrangement, drug abuse, loss, or suicide thoughts and depression. In contrast to many other bands within the wider “atmospheric black metal” umbrella, Karg‘s lyrics are equally as important as the music. Taken together, Resignation will surely shock, surprise, and awe in equal measure – and Karg wouldn’t have it any other way!

AUSTRIAN ATMOSPHERIC BLACK METAL PROJECT, KARG, TO RELEASE ‘DORNENVÖGEL’ ON NOV 16TH

September 6, 2018 – Los Angeles, CA – Austrian atmospheric black metal project Karg will release a long awaited, new album, Dornenvögel, on November 16th with AOP Records.
Today, Karg is ready to unveil the record’s searing new single “Petrichor.”

The record is now available for pre-order at the links below.

“This song is about going to a place I always thought I’d go if there’d be nothing left at home for me worth staying. I always thought I’d go there, to leave it all behind. And so I did. But at least it was not about a farewell or leaving, but about a new chapter of life, or to say it in a quite pathetic way, a rebirth. This led to kinda mixed feelings. On the one hand you have this euphoric and exalted feelings, experiencing life in the back of beyond, thousands of kilometers away from all that trouble. And on the other hand, you must realize after a few days of euphory, that you can’t stay forever and have to leave for home a more soon than faraway day. The past, death and all these negative feelings will get you everywhere, in this case even at the end of this fucking world.” – J.J.

PRE-ORDER DORNENVÖGEL:
AOP Records (US Shop) https://www.indiemerch.com/aoprecords
AOP Records (EU Shop) https://shop.aoprecords.de

For the new record, Karg mastermind J.J. (vocalist of Harakiri For The Sky) recruited a flood of notable musicians as guests on the record, including members from Lunar Aurora, Downfall of Gaia, Ellende, Ancst, Amer, fut and Instant Karma to participate with guest vocals on the album.

Dornenvögel is the project’s most diverse album written to date. It’s a steady up and down of negative and melancholic feelings and short glimpses of hope, recited in a quite hysteric way. Every song is a separate, private “Dornenvogel” (which is a metaphor in this connection) to Karg, in which every song is a different chapter and collection of dramas, one followed by the other.

Karg was founded back in the summer of 2006 as a one-man project. Between 2010 and 2014 Karg was fully formed as a band to play gigs, formally in Germany, Austria and Central Europe. In the years leading to 2018, Karg was a one-man project and released two previous albums. Karg’s 6th studio album Dornenvögel marks the project’s rebirth as a live band for a few special dates in 2018 and 2019.

The musical style of Karg is a furious, hysteric mixture of atmospheric black metal and post-rock, with influences also from grunge, shoegaze and post-punk. Lyrically, Karg was always about the more melancholic side of life, such as broken relationships, lost love, estrangement, drug abuse, loss or suicidal thoughts and depression. In contrast to many other bands Karg’s lyrics are as equally important as its music.
